Fab video - I do try to clear my stuff out a few times a year. I have brushes that are 20 years old and still going strong, although hoof pick always walk! Totally agree on the fly spray, Power Phaser is the only one that works, also agree on the tack cleaning products I've been using the system you are now for around 20 years as I also bought Neatsfoot Oil too when I bought my first horse, to be told that it rots stitching and never used it again! Having worked professionally with horses - there is definitely space for Sudocream especially in winter. I use it for treating mud fever mostly, or loosening scabs. For wound care - I only use AluSpray - for grazes and small cuts - having greys I avoided purple spray as it is impossible to get off. AluSpray is powder spray so dries and protects. Totally agree on the expensive brushes - I would love a set of Haas but I don't actually need them. The only thing you seems to be missing is a Magic Brush or a metal curry comb to get mud off with with, Magic brushes are cheap as and can be used dry or with water to get off mud anywhere on the your horse. Again having owned a grey you get to know these things. I do think that a decent hoof product is important. My farrier won't recommend anything usually but when my old Connie had loads of foot problems, he recommended Kevin Bacon's Hoof Moisturiser and they definitely improved the hoof along with proper nutrition. I have an ex racer now so keep on top of her feet with the Hoof Moisturiser. If you think they are too expensive then Muddy Mayhem has a really good video on how you can make it yourself for a few pounds on her KZfaq Channel - which I totally recommend. Also I buy all my vet supplies and a lot of horse bits and bobs through Viovet using my TopCashback account - this gives Cashback on all purchases upto around 10% at times so well worth checking out! I absolutely swear by the lincoln antibacterial green gel (used to be called green oils years ago) . I use it if my horse's ears get bitten by the flies in the summer or if their ears get sore. I massage the green oils in their ears and the next day their ears are as good as new. It is a bit greasy so I wear some gloves but I'm always amazed by the reactions of people when I tell them about it as nobody has ever seemed to have heard of it. And because its antibacterial you could put it on cuts and wounds as its a natrual fly repellent. I've got a tub of it and it's lasted me years, a little goes a long way and I've still got half a tub left! Amazing stuff, I definitely would recommend it 👍

I gotta say I call likits "Laminitis Blocks" because that's what they are- you wouldn't believe the amount of people who have laminitic horses and give them likits or other molasses based licks still!

Shapleys no rinse shampoo I've found fab for both my mums piebald and my grey. Does a fantastic job with poo stains, mud stains and grass stains. I'm one to go with aluspray over purple spray as a barrier for cuts and grazes. One its far less messy and doesn't stain absolutelu everything and two for me it's perfect with my grey as it's not overly noticeable either. Downside is it doesn't contain any chlorohex so I make sure graze / cut is bathed and clean with dilute hibi first before spraying to prevent infection. One thing I have in my box is an ancient tub of cornucrescine, back in the day we always used to use it on rubs scars etc to promote hair growth, but haven't needed it with my current yet and i don't see so many people use it now - seems old school. Agree with you on the likit front, doesn't work so well for the majority of stables where you can't hang in the middle!

Fun to see what you have in the UK vs what we have in the US. I had heard the same thing about Neatsfoot oil, so tried Outback Leathetseal. Mixed feelings about it. No shine, and it felt like it didn’t soak in all that well. But, it made the straps super supple. Never use hoof oil either. 😁. And I love Showsheen for mane and tail.

As I have a synthetic saddle I use NAF synthetic tack cleaner and my bridle is leather so I use NAF leather tack cleaner and put a little bit on my boots after washing them for shows/events and I have used it since I got my pony on Christmas Day and it gives a nice shine but no grease.

Hi, with the likit the the groves on the plastic top and bottoms face the likit this is suppose to stop them eating them as they can’t get their teeth on it. However I know those small horses still can. I use the uncle jimmy’s granola ones as these do not break they are tough so makes the horse lick them and not clamp. I would highly recommend those

I had Haas brushes for Christmas last year (when my horse was off with an injury) I love them. They really do work well if you love a longer grooming process and use them together in the order they’re designed to be used in :)

I can’t live without the Gold Label Eye Ointment. My horse get crust in her eyes because of dust, the ointment gives them a good clean. And it’s cheap!!

try using the cowboy magic with a tigers tongue, also neats foot is good for old or dry leather, the salt licks are great but lickits in the tub are good for a treat :)

I have a likit too that is not in use. My horse only used one of them and then never touched it again. He doesn't touch his salt lick either. I have the same one you have. I worked my way through fly sprays this year. Nothing does anything. I even got those tags that you can put on a bridle. Not very effective. I use the fly spray to spray on my stable matts before putting the bed down. It gives the stable a nice smell and a fresh feel. The fly hood was brilliant though. And I also got a fly sheet specifically for riding. That one is brilliant too. My best grooming purchase of the year was a magic brush. My horse has very sensitive skin and hates curry combs. This thing was a game changer. It is so good taking off dried in mud and works so fast with very little pressure. The other thing I got was a softer dandy brush from the kids section. The softer one flicks great, which is brilliant for dried mud. And my sensitive boy likes it a lot better than a stiff brush, he even lets me use it on his face. I had gotten a specific face brush as part of my starter kit, and he doesn't like it at all, so that was a fail. Those two brushes together are my magic duo. I follow up with a soft body brush and then he's super shiny. The other big discovery is a tigers tongue sponge. It's amazing. Sometimes I use it to take extra dust off his body, but what I really love it for is using it when I wash off his legs. He has feathers and it's amazing. I also use it to wash out his feed buckets and his muddy field head collar. So many uses!

Fab video I've just found some second hand haas brushes.. I'm excited for them to come! Agree with the cow boy magic gel.. I just wish it was cheaper 💰💰 love Kevin bacon hoof oil.. makes a real difference to the foot condition😁

The fly spray you have make a mane and tail detangler that are amazing! I use it 2 times a week on my Andalusians obviously thick tail and it keeps it so silky

i highly recommend barrier aloe vera gel. Have used it for years for cuts, grazes and sunburn. wouldnt be without it in my kit. great vlog

I use the cowboy magic detangle gel for everyday use on the mane so it shines but I really really recommend the supreme products sparkle for the tail, helps keep the flies off and you don’t need much to detangle

I must say i disagree with you on the cowboy magic stain remover, i found it brilliant stuff when i was studying in America but i am yet to find it in the UK so ingredients may differ! For greys/white areas i love shapelys (i think) purple shampoo, leaves them gleaming and I'm a big fan of the carr and day and Martin mane and tail detangler, i only have to use it around once a week on my mares copious amounts of mane and tail, and in between a quick brush keeps it lovely!

I always get fed up trying to clean the ponies, I’ve tried the spot cleaner sprays but they really take more effort than just washing with water and fairy liquid ! I also just use baby oil in their clean mane and tails which does help keep the dirt off somehow. I just give up on winter 😂

Love this. Going tomorrow to look at a loan horse for the first time and thinking about my grooming kit. Am I better off buying a ‘set’ or choosing brushes individually?

I think a set is a good option for basics as you can save money on them, but make sure to do the comparisons to make sure the price isn't steeper than individually. The main items for me would be: body brush, dandy brush, plastic/rubber curry comb, hoof pick, sponge, sweat scraper

@@RidingWithRhi thanks. And what should I look for in a quality brush? As an adult novice all the sets seemed geared towards children and can seem a bit ‘plasticky’. I don’t mind spending money on quality items but also don’t want to spend where it’s not necessary which is why your channel is so great

Honestly I think go basic on grooming brushes and spend your money elsewhere - there is plenty to buy! If you want a good brush, HAAS is great (link in description) but otherwise I get along fine with my cheap plastic curry combs etc

How exciting!!! For brushes it may depend a little on the horse too so if your loaning see what they already have and use on the horse … Haas brushes are designed for specific colours so perhaps start basic. I love a rubber very comb and a flick brush but everyone grooms differently! Keep us posted!

The lickit isn’t set up right, that’s how he can bite it, the bumps should be on the inside not the outside x

Hhha oh I know, I did a follow up video to the one you saw here with it the right way round. But even then, Likit told me that it should be hung in the middle of a space rather than against a wall, which is a tall order for a lot of stables x
