I agree with what you say about time being the only way to get better, but that's not always completely true. Some skaters are better than the gear they are, and that upgrade to a setup that's better in tune with their style and gives them the support or less support that they need can instantly improve a skater. That was my case with my first pair of skates. I was rhythm skating(NY/NJ style), doing jumps and spins in a vinyl boot and it would always crumple under me. I'm only 150 lbs too so I always thought I was doing something wrong. Also when I got into my 3 turns and doing a 360 off of one foot, my foot would always move around in my boot or the whole boot would rock to one side and then just hit the ground and I would fall. I wanted a pair of vnla godfathers(for the style not knowing the lack of support which I've realized after wearing them down to nothing in 3 months as I skate a lot and very aggresively 😪) but I didn't want to have a nice boot without the required skills, so I skated for 10 months without upgrading and ended up ripping the boot from the heel, and at that point I said I have no choice but to upgrade and even the bit of support in the godfathers leveled me up instantly. I didn't even go through a "break them in" process because I was severely underbooted for what I was trying to do. After 3 months in then they're getting just as flimsy for me as the vinyls were and I've been eyeing the Edea Flamenco as my next boot. I plan on getting off Nylon plates and picking up a roll line dance or energy plate too.

Great overview. I enjoyed the one you did on the 297 as well. It seems like I may be in between these in terms of stiffness for my rhythm skating needs. I can’t find it but did you do an overview on the 336 boot as well? I’d love to see that because of your thorough attention to detail about these boots.

good video... I was seeing this woman and she expressed interest in skating, so I was trying to help out by getting her skates. She was supposed top get them, learn, practice, and pay me back. I told this genius to GET FITTED and even found a place near her. Instead of going there,0she evidently just went by shoe size. I ordered them, she gets them and they were too small, then I found out she was lying the whole time and didnt want to skate anyway. I still have the skates and I am selling them..

Thanks for the “overview” 🙂. You are also so correct about being wise about your boot purchases. I must admit that I did not exercise the right judgement when selecting my indoor skates. I started skating again with the pandemic, same as many others, and purchased some Riedell 336 boots for rhythm skating because I liked the look of them 😳. I do skate daily and have been working to break them in and they feel better now (as in my toes don’t go numb while wearing them) but I do realize that I purchased too much skate 🙂. They are super stiff for what I need them for and give plenty of support that I don’t really need because I will not be jumping in them. I chalk this up to “you live and learn”. What boots would you recommend for rhythm skating that offer support but are not like vice grips on your feet and ankles. I watched your overview on the 120 boot and that looks like a winner but was wondering if you have any other suggestions.

I have not taken the boot off the plate to unstitch the boot to measure the lengths and angles yet.

I like speed/ shuffle skate and I need to pick a short boot with NO heel. Im not rich but I got some powerdyne plates still in the box that need a boot. Derby boot? Speed boot?

I frequently see some of the best rhythm/jam/dance skaters at my rink in Riedell 3200, fusion 2010, and flair 910 boots. It appears they all leave their laces a bit loose with these super stiff setups. I’m wondering on the “why” behind this - what advantage/performance, if any, you get out of a super stiff boot if you don’t lace it up snug? I have some riedell 120’s on arius plates with og vanathane wheels and am curious about these stiffer boots so wanted to ask the question.

Skate Nation told me they could not exchange for refund because the boot would not effect my performance.

I am not happy with my Riedell 595 boots that i received on a pair of power-trac plates from Skate Nation.

Then after i contacted Riedell, and then sent followup complaining email to Skate Nation, then they said the boot could be repaired.

You are obviously very roller skate knowledgeable. Is there a reason that the majority of shufflers wear low-cut skates?

OK, so i spend 900 dollars on a pair of skates with a warped malcut and sewn boot on the right only LOL, and they cant refund, but they LOL can repair the boot LOL ?

Since this is a boot that Riedell does not maintain stock, the lead time is WAAAAAAAY too long.

So i am going to be posting on every skate youtube i can find. And will do my first post on tik tok about this horrible state that Americans are living in where we get ripped off by corporations and just get ripped off with no respect. So I hope that if i post enough, that other people will as well post each time they get ripped off and passed bad products with no respect as if these people can just pocket all our money and we are trash they can set aside. Unless you want an attorney and a court case. I can afford to trash 900 dollars and buy a pair of Bont speed skates. As long as people pay Skate Nation and Riedell for defective products and services (the mounting of a warped boot and a warped mount), then these owners will just keep banking their money while America gets less and less great. The more illegal immigrants who come in the more business the rich people have, so they do not have to provide quality to the general middle class.

What’s the point then, if you don’t use it you don’t really know anymore about the product them we do... what a joke
