Rules:
1. The cartridge must be generally available in retail stores
2. Either Jon or myself need to have some experience with the round
3. This is for RIFLE applications of the cartridge. 5.7 in a pistol isn't going to make an appearance
4. If you disagree with the way the match is going, feel free to make your case in the comments. I'm definitely not trying to farm audience engagement or anything
5. This is a double elimination tournament with an initial 32 competitors. Round one will be mostly even. I wanted to plug everything in and then hit the randomize button, but Jon said no.

Little disappointed in the 300blk choice. Partly because I'm a fan boy, but also because it's better than 7.62x39 in every way, and tends to preform the same or better, even out of a shorter barrel than the AK. Used to be price was the factor, but now AKs cost more than ARs, and the ammo costs as much as 300blk.

Where on earth do you buy your ammo?! 7.62x39 has consistently been 45-50 cents/round on ammoseek for a year and a half now whereas .300 BO has consistently been 60-70 cents/round

@@ExtremelyAverageMan I'll give you that it's been a month since really looked, but I've checked sporadically during the the last 4 or so months, and it's consistently around 5-10¢ or less what 7.62ak is. For a little while it was actually cheaper than AK. I tend to just search around for deals online from trusted distributors. Some times a drop shipper takes 3 weeks to ship it, but I get the best price, so it's cool. And I am accounting for tax and shipping too. Even with the difference in price, you're getting a much better and versatile overall round than what the AK shoots. And on a much better platform. And 300blk will give tehs some preformance out of a shorter barrel. Also, for the price of a cheap AK and 1k rounds you could get a reliable AR in 300blk and probably 2k rounds. Or the AR, 1k rounds, and accessories/optic/sling/light/etc.

Here's me again! A fan of 6.5 Grendel. More continues to go it's way. PSA has AAC 6.5 Grendel on the site now, but it's listed as out of stock. Are they getting ready for something? Maybe that Grendel AK they talked about in the past? And the Wolf stuff isn't great, I'll agree. But I'd have to say it's effective to 600 yards at least. I've had great luck with it in a 16' setup to that distance. The bummer part of Grendel, 6 ARC, AND 22 ARC is bolt face!!! But honestly I'm sure that can be answered. As it turns out, the boys from FM have done something with Global Ordinance that should provide an answer. We'll see if anyone else has noticed this yet.

I dig the 8.6 blackout, quieter than 300 blk, can knock down a bison at 300 yrds with a 8" barrel, and keep a 1 moa at 30p yrd out of 8" barrel, just pricey. But thats my next build.

At this point, most full power cartridges are somewhat niche. Cost, weight, system cost. Its ridiculous to have a battle rifle in the modern battlefield. Especially when most fighting occurs within city block ranges with hard cover. Which, yeah, you can take a d50 in an ar10-ish, and start chipping through the concrete. Or. Move. As for the intermediate rifle, it's the king of the fight. Calibers, are the question. Many intermediate cartridges are very effective terminally speaking. I do believe nato could go 6.5 across all infantry rifles, and even beltfeds. This would have a huge benefit to logistics, capability, and various costs. Allowing for diversion of funds to general enhancements. Obviously the creedmoors will need barrel development.

I think it's more to troll people than anything. 300blk is a really good round, and probably my favorite, but I can't deny that there are many more commercially available options/loadings for 5.56. You have to get into oddball questionable hand loadings for some of the 300blk stuff. I do think it's better than AK all day, tho. That's just an inferior cartridge and platform that only got as popular as it did because they were less than dirt cheap in the 90s and early 2000s. 300 just does everything it does, better. And out of a shorter barrel.

I know gel tests aren’t everything but i consistently see 300 failing to match 7.62 in barrier penetration and damage. The versatility of 300 vs 7.62. I really wish there was more accessibility to 6.5 grendel though as that one does pique my interest.

@@wolfgang_h3t Sure is. You can go sub to super with just a mag swap, you get the ballistics of an ak, but need less barrel to do it, you have the penetration 556 can't matching except with specialty rounds. And if you go specialty rounds, you can get the same ap308 loaded in 300 and have some really punchers. The trade off you have a 250-300m weapon platform and ammo cost more than 556.

Why is it that military vets who have used 5.56 in combat are a lot less enthusiastic about its effectiveness than those who like to point at statistics? Not saying it sucks. Just saying reality doesn't care about theory.
@epicfortnitekid8536
@epicfortnitekid8536 2 ай бұрын
Military veterans will fabricate the most insane stories about what they experience. They know to shoot at the “bad” guys and anything else is whatever they feel like. I remember one case where a vet argued that the m14 was a brtter platform than the FAL because it weighed less (objectively speaking, this is the opposite of reality). For every vet complaining about 5.56, theres a thousand stories of 5.56 dropping guys instantly
@terrarecon
@terrarecon 2 ай бұрын
Military vets like myself who have used the 5.56 in live combat is the statistic. The 5.56's lack of effectiveness in Afghanistan and Iraq in many conflicts is why the M14 chambered in 7.62 was pulled out of mothball. It just depends on the terrain where the engagement is.
@Sprice93USAF
@Sprice93USAF 2 ай бұрын
It’s because they suck at shooting and assume something else would have been better, or they were being engaged from longer distances. Intermediate cartridges like the 5.56 are superior for general combat because the cartridges are lightweight and magazines are high capacity, and they strike a good balance between low recoil and power. For anything within a few hundred yards people don’t expose themselves for long amounts of time. The strategy is to wound, incapacitate, and then kill. Having a lot of light recoiling rounds of adequate power is well equipped for that job. The relatively flat trajectory of 5.56 (especially when combined with an optic) can be of great value at distances reaching up to 400 yards or beyond. At about 400 yards is where full power cartridges will start to shine; especially in gpmg’s. However, if distances are consistently around 400 yards or beyond and the soldier has to navigate difficult terrain on foot a magazine fed full caliber rifle weighs substantially less than a gpmg and would make more sense.
