Hey Tripp! Since you seem to have a pretty healthy line of communication with the brands you use, I was wondering if you have a line of communication open with Callaway? Their reman .223 has gone up almost 2¢/round since "the incident". It appears they're slowly raising the price 25¢ at a time, which comes across like taking advantage of any panic buying that might be happening.

TGC new gun rules: I agree with you guys on the mag thing, just going to increase cost. What does he mean by accurate at 10 yd? The MOA standard for rifles and those over 2K is basically the same thing. SubMOA is the same thing as MOA or better. Jesus I hope these rules aren't carved into stone.

I like it. .078 to .081 seems like a fair place to end up on this type of barrel if it is intended to be suppressed only using traditional baffles like you said. For me, the reason for middy is about attaining more bolt life, longer receiver life, and lower port pop but still being able to use lower back pressure cans, hybrid designs etc. Lower back pressure cans, regardless of the system they are added to, provide less delta between suppressed and unsuppressed usage, meaning they need less drastic measures to make them function effectively. The less adjustment needed, the wider your potential operating envelope becomes. That lands me the camp of wanting to use a system like this but still in conjunction of a lower back pressure can. That may warrant a slightly larger port size than this. Also, I'd be very curious to see how well it would run unsuppressed with a .08-.09 port with a confirmed efficient carrier and no gas key leaks (moreso as a safety net than to be considered 100% reliable). With the testing I've done, fixing gas leaks significantly changes ejection angle and ejection authority. This suggests potentially a sizable increase in reliability from short dwell time systems that are often considered to be finicky and unreliable if mitigation is applied to the leaks. I attest much of the finicky unreliableness of these systems can be attributed to inefficient carriers with leaky gas keys. Most carriers on the market at this point are subpar in some department. I.E. - both of my BCM carriers have leaky gas keys and my friends BCM carrier even had a hugely oversized bolt tail seal. Luckily the rest of his system was sealed well enough that it ran fine but was ejecting more around the 4-4:30 area (16" mid, H1 I think).

The eotech 512 that couldn't handle the recoil of a 9in 300 blackout was just a dud because I had one on a 11.8in 308 and shot well over 1k rounds with the 512 attached probably closer to 2k and it worked great. Now my 512 sits on an 11in 556 and I have run probably double the amount I ran with it on the shorty 308 and it is still functioning perfectly.
