When you produce acts like Taylor Swift, Fall Out Boy, Panic at the Disco, Weezer, Green Day, Pink, Rayland Baxter, Keith Urban, and Harry Connick Jr., it’s hard to find time for your own music. Yet in 2022, Butch Walker managed to release his 10th album, Butch Walker as … Glenn-a surprising tribute to the ’70s piano-rock balladeers that were among the rulers of FM radio in his youth. Nonetheless, that didn’t stop him from bringing a fleet of cool Fender and Gibson guitars, and a hemi of an amp, a Two-Rock Bloomfield Drive, on his recent It’s About Damn Tour tour.
For Walker, playing those guitars is something of a comeback celebration. In 2007, the house he was renting in Malibu from Flea of the Red Hot Chili Pepper caught fire and the Rome, Georgia, native lost the collection of classic axes he’d spent a lifetime accumulating, as well as the masters to every song of his own that he’d recorded. As Walker explains in the Rundown, it was a hard lesson about keeping up with insurance and making sure all his valuable instruments are covered-which they weren’t.
Today, he splits time in Nashville, where he’s also built a new version of his RubyRed studio in the old Warner Music building, from the 1950s. As Walker said in a Facebook post. “There’s been countless hits and amazing country and rock ’n’ roll songs recorded here over the years. It smells a little funny. It’s maybe haunted (hell, it was a morgue at one time). But I love it. It’s got vibe for days, sounds incredible, and people dig working here.”
So, dig into Walker’s Rig Rundown, which we filmed in November at Nashville’s Brooklyn Bowl.

Butch may be an absolute BEAST on stage... but he very much is the most down to earth dude you'll meet. Also, he puts on the best show you'll ever see live with energy that doesn't stop at just him, but will infect every inch of the venue he's gracing. If he's playing with a full band within 150 miles of you, buy the ticket now. If its a venue of under 150 people, buy 3 and take friends. You won't be sorry.

Butch is such an amazing, awesome and nice guy. I got to see him several years ago during his Letters tour at the Exit/In in Nashville. After the show, he jumped off stage and took every photo and signed every autograph to whoever wanted one. After my friends and I got photos and signatures, we walked across the street to the Gold Rush to have a few drinks when one of my friends said, “Dude, we should invite him to hang with us.” Yeah right, I thought. But since it never hurts to ask, we turned around and asked him. Before answering, he simply got on his phone and asked (I’m assuming his tour manager) “what time do I need to be on the bus? 3? Okay.” “Yeah guys, let’s go!” I can proudly say I bought all of his drinks that night. Again, such an awesome guy. If anybody reading this is not familiar with his work, I highly recommend checking him out if you like beautifully written and catchy as hell songs.

@captaintrips8651 That sounds next level. He truly is an awesome musician. Perhaps one of the most underrated of our time. I was a Marvelous 3 fan... as in I had the Hey cd. Loved it. Listened to it a lot. Forgot about it after a few years. Vampires in love got into my head a few weeks ago. I looked up the band and learned all about Butch Walker. I quickly learned he's been responsible for nearly all the music I've listened to over the last two decades. I've been listening to all his solo stuff and watching videos like this one. His evolution as an artist is amazing. He inspires me to become such a better guitar player. I hope to run into him now that he lives in Nashville.
