I have to say this is one of the best videos presented to learn from. I've been wanting to learn to sail for so long and have reviewed many many videos and finally I've found one that explains things in exactly the way I like to learn. Thanks so much!

I bought my little 20ft Coronet sail boat two years ago and I am embarrassed to say that I still haven't got out on the water with her. I did a sailing course a year ago which was great, but I have forgotten a lot, if not most of it. I am determined to have a crack at raising the mast and to set up all the rigging. It is a real birds nest on deck from the previous owner, but thanks to your videos, this one especially, it makes a whole lot more sense, and like other comments, a much less scary prospect. I will have your video on hand to refer to when this complete and utter 48 year old sailing novice attempts to rig up his boat for the very first time. Thank you so much for putting so much effort into making such simplistic, easy to follow, and well narrated sailing tutorial videos. Well done and keep up the great work. Cheers, Mike

Just subbed. Must say thanks for this. As a liveaboard sailor 20 years ago and now a sailboat owner again the two previous videos about trim has been a nice refresher course. Nicely edited, succinct and to the point. So refreshing to have point by point easily explained rather that listen endlessly to sailors who love the sound of their own voice.

been using these vids to get some basic knowledge, and using VR regatta (VR game about sailing) and eSail to get some idea about points of sail and procedures. I'm not saying that its a good replacement for actual hands on experience but it feels like it's a good start to get some idea about the procedures and to build some theoretical knowledge. just as a way to not be completely useless when you finally set your first step on a boat to act as crew :p If I remember it, I'll update this to see how much these guides (and the games) helped out to kickstart the sailing career :p

I was under the impression the topping lift is only really in use when the sail is down, to prevent the boom from dropping into the cockpit. And that once the sail is hoisted the sail essentially holds the boom up, no? Would be nice if you also spent a moment on the outhaul, that was one of those lines that I always forgot about.
@searchingforcoconuts2248
@searchingforcoconuts2248 3 ай бұрын
Hi, and thanks for your comments. While you are correct, let me give you an example. If you are sailing full sails and need to reef down... If you have tension on the leech of the sail, it's not going to slide down the mast track with all that tension. Same with hoisting, so it makes things a lot easier to lift the boom during sail changes. The outhaul is often forgotten, but gets important for sail trim... Hope this helps, thanks for watching

Me and a couple of friends have joined a RYA course for Sailing this October. While we received a couple pdfs explaining basic parts of a ship and basic sailing, I must say that your videos are far better! Very easy to understand and well structured. May I ask what is the app you're using for the animations? I've read a comment below and your reply to it and I'm guessing it's eSail. Thank you so much and keep it up!

Hi and thank you for great comments. Hoping your RYA courses are fun and educational, first steps, well done. The animations are put together using free, open-source software called Blender 3D... eSail is an online sailing simulation which is also a great tool for practise and knowledge-building

Hello, i am making a simple animation of boat. With the purpose that this animation can give me best shape of a lower part of a boat in water and that boat has good aerodinamic. So i can make it in real life. Do you have any recomendation about how do i get to this shape without using programming. I am on a schedule, so i would be very happy for answers. Thank you very much!
