Practicing mindfulness has become a popular practice in the West with many organisations jumping on board the mindfulness train in the hope that teaching it to their employees will reduce stress levels and increase productivity. The Buddha also taught mindfulness to his followers with the aim of achieving peace in their minds; however, his goal was to help them reach an everlasting peace and freedom sustained by a mind full of compassion and wisdom.
In this video I briefly explain how the Four Foundations of Mindfulness makes up the practice of Right Mindfulness. In particular, I explore the practical benefits of practicing Right Mindfulness and how it helps us to develop freedom from our thoughts and feelings, to perceive reality with a more open and observant mind and how it is invaluable for increasing meditative concentration which leads to ultimate freedom and liberation.

@@denyat don't be cheated by Christianity, it's a scam with a fake God, check these evidence especially 1, 2, 3 and 4: 20 IRREFUTABLE EVIDENCE that proved Christianity God is likely FAKE, don't miss the last paragraph that explains them all: 1) Jesus similarities with Buddha. Maya to Mary, miracle pregnancy to virgin pregnancy, birth during a journey home to from home, prophesied soon after birth, both had a disciple who betrayed them, walked on water, Gautama left the palace at age 29 and Jesus appeared at 29, Gautama became Buddha at 35 and Jesus died and resurrected at around 35 too, after they passed away, 500 arahants witnessed compilation of Buddha's teachings and over 500 witnesses to Jesus's resurrection etc. All coincidental ? Beside Buddha, Jesus also copied from Horus and Mithra. Surely they ALL cannot be coincidental. 2) Many of the Bible's mythologies was copied from older pagans, Greek, Egyptian or Hinduism religions(note the names too) E.g. Adam & Eve story similar to Atman and Jeewa, a pair of birds in Hinduism, big flood and survivor Noah/3 sons same as Manu/3 sons although cause of flood is different. Even the names of Abraham and wife/sister Sarah close to Brahma and Saraswathi beside having similar story. Regardless of which religion copied which, it proved this god is NOT the only true god or all mighty as it doesn't makes sense to create or allow more copies or religions. 3) Why a true all mighty, all knowing and only god allowed their people to branch off and kill their parent religion Judaism ? This alone is enough proof that their God is non-existant. "Free will" as an excuse is not acceptable as earlier they claimed their God killed all people with a big flood(without freewill) because they sinned. 4) The Bible condemned non-followers, clearly mentioned in Mark's words. Why should a Creator God's religion condemn non-believers when in the first place, they claimed their God created the world? Isn't this like playing both sides of the same coin, both good and evil ? 5)Not knowing why or how the world exists don't mean that it was created by a god. Now "Creator" idea got stale, they use "Intelligent Design" What is so intelligent in its design? If people don't need to go to toilet and don't have unpleasant feelings and sufferings, then I will call it an intelligent design. 6)Wisdom and meditation are not taught by them because they know meditation can make a person's mind clearer and wiser. 7)The Bible copied very much from older religions but not the theory of karma because karma idea defeats the purpose of the mighty God trick and it will prevent people from doing bad deeds. 8) The way the church preached and claimed simply lacked substance and logic. If you ask them intelligent question, they will always be evasive and say you are not serious or an evil. 9) It don't makes sense to claim that only their believers will go to heaven and others don't since they claimed their God created all people. Such claim is an insult to other religions and cultures and caused people to divide. A good religion should be secular and treat all people equally. 10) The way they collect titlings during Sunday mass is so tricky. They know people will be shy not to pay or tend to pay more when others could be watching. This is why they don't just use a stationed money box like Buddhism, Hinduism or Chinese temples where people can donate anytime. Catholics and Islam made it even bigger by suggesting donation of a certain percentage of their income. 11)Most major festivals and holidays related to Christianity are fake including Christmas(Jesus can't be born in winter), Easter, Thanksgiving, Good Friday, All Souls, Halloween and even New Year are copied from paganism. 12) A creator god claimed to be all mighty should be the first and only religion but all the pagans, Greek, Chinese, Hinduism religions existed earlier. This proved their Creator claim fake. 13) Using fear like hell or "end of the world" every 2 years but we are still here. 14) The fraud case of Mother Teresa(Google it) and after she died, those money she collected was not returned to India. 15)If their God is all-mighty, why need missionaries to convert others ? 16) The ongoing child sex abuses committed by the pastors/priests that I read so often. 17) The Bible is full of lust(Solomon's part), evil and violence. Their God killed countless people when Satan only killed a few. 18) The Bible condemned dogs because they know dogs are man's best friend. Making men lonely is the best way to keep them dependant on religion. 19) If God created everybody, why then condemn LGBT ? 20) Incidents, eg: (a) U.S., U.K, France, Italy, Spain, Brazil, Mexico are all high Christianity population countries and more people died from Covid-19, over 200K Americans alone !! (b)The Air Asia plane crash of 2014 killed 41 church members, 2 missionaries and their few month old baby. Only 1 reason can tie up all 20 points above, this God was man-made to con or control people.

I have recently been developing mindfulness for the past few days now such as saying what is happening while it is happening. When I feel an emotion I say the name without thinking about it being attached to me but merely just in front of me. When I start thinking I say "thinking", when I'm moving my arm I saying "moving", and when I am being mindful I say "mindful" well after this video I am xD. And especially when I'm procrastinating or not feeling like doing something I say "lazy".

Wonderful video Mindah. Ajahn Brahm has a dharma talk on kindfulness where he recommends we combine mindfulness with compassion and love. He calls it opening the door to our heart and it's a theme that repeats itself in many of his wonderful talks. I was wondering what is your opinion about adding a cognitive element to mindulness, such as reflections? I think you hinted a tone by mentioning impermanence of our emotions. For example, if someone angers us, we can reflect on the fact that people do things out of ingortance, including ourselves, and we should forgive them for that. I personally like using antidotes, so that if I feel any negative emotions I try to reflect on loving-kindness. Do you think there are some situations where it's better to use antidotes vs mindfulness or does it not matter? Take care

A New Interpretation of Mindfulness Arguably the most influential non-religious movement to advance personal happiness and satisfaction in present times is the variant of meditation called ‘mindfulness’. Simply defined, mindfulness represents continuous non-judgmental awareness. But the converse of non-judgment, namely making judgments, may entail negative outcomes (perseverative judgments as represented by rumination, worry, or distraction) or positive ones (non-perseverative judgments on what to have for dinner or what route to take on the way home). Perseverative cognition is uniquely correlated with stress, anxiety, and depression, but non-perseverative thought (as well as thinking of nothing at all) is correlated with relaxation, positive affect, and feelings of happiness. Thus it may be concluded that the definition of mindfulness over-prescribes the type of cognitive operations that need to be curtailed in order to attain positive emotional outcomes. It follows that the definition of mindfulness must be attenuated to represent the avoidance of perseverative judgments alone. By no means does this invalidate mindfulness, rather it merely determines the type of judgments we should be mindful about, and allows one to be easily mindful all of the time rather than from time to time that is the practical result of avoiding all judgment, and significantly enhances the argument for its practice. This definition of mindfulness complements the ‘perseverative cognition hypothesis’ which associates the debilitating aspect of stress with perseverative cognition alone. As advanced by the psychologists G. Brosschot and JF Thayer, “The perseverative cognition hypothesis holds that stressful events cannot affect people's health, unless they think repetitively or continuously (that is, 'perseverate cognitively') about these stressful events. Stressful events themselves are often too short, as are the physiological responses to them. Therefore, the physiological responses during these stressors are unlikely to cause bodily harm. More importantly, many stressful events are merely worried about, or feared in the future, while they often do not happen or do not have the feared consequences. Nevertheless, the body reacts with prolonged physiological responses to continuous thoughts (perseverative cognition) about these stressors. Therefore, it is the perseverative cognition, and not the stressors that can eventually lead to disease. In scientific terms, it is said that perseverative cognition is a mediator of the detrimental effects of stress on one's health.” en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perseverative_Cognition The little book that follows is the first attempt to explain these two complementary hypotheses using a neurologically informed theory of learning. Learning theories simply explain how information imparted from experience shapes both covert and overt behavior, and it is my purpose not only to redefine and explain mindfulness, but to justify it. The book of course is free. www.scribd.com/doc/284056765/The-Book-of-Rest-The-Odd-Psychology-of-Doing-Nothing

I am grateful to have found you on this website, Mindah-Lee. Now I will attempt to get a new perspective on a practicing Buddhist. The first such person I met has lost all credibility with me. He says that he represents the Buddha and I say he does not represent any such thing. He says there is no right and wrong, there is no good and bad and on and on with such perfect nonsense and this is among the many things that he has learned from the Buddha. I do not consider myself easily fooled by people who claim to know about spiritual matters. I saw through this person by merely looking into his eyes. I saw defilements. I heard defilements. I am grateful that I was able to hear your stance.

Hi Mindah. Thanks for your videos. I have been suffering from chronic sinusitis for nearly a decade now. It manifests as fatigue and aches and pain over the body and sometimes transient depression. I had had some surgeries done but still the doctors can't do anything to eradicate it. There is no single day that I don't suffer the symptoms ,from waking up till sleep. How can I cope with them to have better quality of life?
@jasonng04
@jasonng04 7 жыл бұрын
Of course I am not a doctor, but if the pain and developing depression from it is causing you to suffer then the only thing I can think of is doing what this video has told us. For me I would say meditate on the pain itself, when it arises say in your mind "pain, pain, pain" without judgment on if the pain feels bad or good. Just acknowledge pain and overtime you will see that it is just the same as any other sensation. Naturally pain isn't a bad thing, but it is your attachment to disliking it that causes it to be bad. Don't worry if it's hard at first, overtime you will start to become detached from pain. It's not that pain won't be there, but you will instead realise that pain is just a sensation that is only bad if you attach to it. And with depression you do the same thing, but instead you can start cultivating happiness from it. Use the sadness and depression as the mud to growing your lotus flower. The lotus flower symbolising happiness, and non suffering. I hope I have helped
