This Border Patrol Agent should run the entire agency. When the driver legally refused to answer questions, the agent didn't overreact or infringe on the driver's rights. Instead, he maintained his composure and did his job professionally. He should train all LE officers. Give this man a promotion!

It should be noted that if this was a highway patrolman, you would be required in most states to show him your DL, because driving is a state privilege. But since he’s a Federal cop, it’s none of his business if you’re licensed or not.

@@brionbraziel7968 In most states if you are pulled over and fail to show your driver’s license, you can be penalized. The penalty ranges from a fix it ticket to fines to impoundment to jail. The assumption here is the officer pulled you over for a moving violation. Don’t get carried away with Constitutionality. You’d be lucky if the Supreme Court desires to hear your petty squabble. This is the real world. Live in it.

this clearly is no hate on the officer himself (people take objectional jobs when times are tough), but rather an objection to the unconstitutional checkpoints which can be up to 100 miles away from the US border with mexico. why is it necessary to tell a federal agent where you are going and where you are coming from? who do they catch by knowing that? Why is it that he was looking into his car like that before letting him go? these checkpoints are for drugs more than they are for catching people who are here illegally.

I've passed through that check point many times. Usually you just them you're an American citizen and it's a done deal. You're fortunate that they didn't have you pull over, shut off the car and sit in the heat for an 1/2 hour or so.

I completely judged a book by it's cover. I first watched the video of only the angle looking at that agent directly. I was mad at first because the guy was pleasant. If he didn't talk they could claim they thought he was drunk. Speaking, even if you do not answer their questions at least removes a DUI as a reason to detain you. They probably have these checkpoints for a reason (illegal immigrants, drug smuggling ect...), I doubt the U.S. Government would spend so much money if this didn't produce results. The officer was perfectly polite and it's no chip off your shoulder to simply answer the question. What does this achieve? The 5th amendment isn't going to disappear if you co-operate.

I am always cooperative with the police during a traffic stop. I will admit that I spend a little extra time searching through my glove compartment looking for my registration and insurance card and a few extra minutes trying to find my drivers license. I always get into a friendly conversation with the officer and orchestrate the detention to last as long as possible. You see, the longer that officer is standing outside my car, the more a distracted or inattentive driver is likely to come along and send that officer who is standing outside my car 50 feet into the air. To be honest.... The only issue I have here is; Although American citizens are not required to carry and/or produce Identification within this Nation, Driver's of motor vehicles on highways, roads, public land, are required to possess a Driver's Licence. And are required to show this to any law enforcement/peace officer when asked.

U.S. Border Patrol doesn't enforce traffic laws and doesn't accept Driver's Licenses as an indication of a person's Right to Remain in the US. Also, the State of Arizona doesn't require drivers to carry driver's licenses while driving.
