In this video, Phil from RightRope talks about 3 of the most common synthetic #rope fibers, #nylon, #polyester, and #polypropylene. Learn more about the different properties of each to help you decide which rope is right for your application.
Polyester is a very strong rope with low stretch, and excellent abrasion and UV resistance. While nylon is the best choice if you need a very strong rope with some stretch that also has good abrasion and UV resistance. Polypropylene, while not the strongest or most durable rope, does float on water.
When you shop #RightRope, you can be sure you’re getting the right rope at the right price.

What is the life expectancy of the polyester ropes if using in outdoor activity? Can we wash the polyester rope with water an soap solution? What is the discarding criteria of the polyester rope?
@RightRopeOfficial
@RightRopeOfficial 3 жыл бұрын
Polyester ropes can last 20 years or more in an outdoor environment, depending on the climate. Polyester has the best UV resistance of all the synthetic fibers, but still will eventually break down from the sunlight. Polyster can be washed in soap and water, no problem. The criteria for removing it from use varies depending on the application. Usually visible damage is a good indicator to discard. Hope that helps!

@@RightRopeOfficial -- That's a good enough ballpark figure though... It probably is not made from a material that has the stretch needed for a kinetic rope, but is probably more than adequate for a non-kinetic pull... I suspect that you don't manufacture all your ropes anyway and just buy bulk and repackage... It has the shrink wrap handles and the weave looked the same -- that's why I thought it might be either yours or from whatever manufacturer that you use...

I wanted to know for bdsm tho... so polypropylene isn’t very abrasive resistant or something, so it’s a bit rougher on skin, but easier to tie?
@RightRopeOfficial
@RightRopeOfficial 3 жыл бұрын
Most polypropylene is rough and plastic-like. Solid braid, multi-filament polypropylene (MFP) is soft and smooth and wouldn't hurt the skin. Other options would be solid braid nylon or solid braid polyester. All of these solid braid ropes are very soft and supple, and they tie and untie easily. Hope that helps!

Please don't mix materials and brand names - nylon is a brand name for polyamide fibers made by DuPont (now 3M). You claim, polyester is more abrasion resistant than polyamide - if that's true, why do mountaineers only use polyamide ropes (dynamic as well as static) then ???
@andersskoleovergaard9313
@andersskoleovergaard9313 Жыл бұрын
You are mistaken about the static rope and dynamic rope: Climbers use both polyester AND nylon. Static ropes are polyester and only strech little. Nylon is used in the dynamic ropes that strech much more. BOTH fibers have a meltingpoint around 215 dg C, and are borth quite resistant to abrasion and can take the heat developed by prussik knots uset as a safety device. Metingpoint is important for abrasion resistance. PP is much lower melting poind and is never used in climbing for the same reason. I think that the nylon and the polyester have SAME resistance to abrasion. I think that the man who made the vdeo is making a mistake here.

@@andersskoleovergaard9313 - Look again, e.g. Tendon 9.0mm Static Line is made from PA (Polyamide) - name a brand that uses Polyester
@andersskoleovergaard9313
@andersskoleovergaard9313 Жыл бұрын
I think that there must be a mistake somewhere. Nylon fibres = polyamide are so strechy that you can NOT make static rope from that. Nylon-rope streches 3-5 times more than polyesterropes. And under tension, a nylonrope (dynamic climbing rope) will continue to strech and strech. This is not what a static rope wll do. A static ropes will strech a bit, and then stay without streching more. It is not possible to make static rope from nylon-fibres polyamide.
@mannihh5274
@mannihh5274 Жыл бұрын
@@andersskoleovergaard9313 - I think, the mistake must be somewhere on your side. Don't set Paracord for Nylon and think, every polyamide fibre must be stretchy. Paracord is ment to absorb a lot of the opening shock from a parachute. MIL-Specs claim a minimum of 25% - in order to match that mark, the manufacturers make it more like 30%. But if you pre-stretch the fibres during the cooling process, you can take out the most of this 'build-in' stretch. As far as I know, polyester in its most stretchy state is not quite as stretchy as polyamide, and pre-stretched to the most, its less stretchy than PA. But the slickness of PA is only matched by Dyneema (=UHMD-PE). That's why sailors prefer polyester and mountaineers, which almost always use mechanical devices prefer polyamide.
@andersskoleovergaard9313
@andersskoleovergaard9313 Жыл бұрын
@@mannihh5274 You still dont accept, that polyester is the material used in static ropes. You do know that polyester is less strechy than polyamide - and then of course that is used for the static ropes.
