This game is a total blast - I LOVE it. It’s like a cross between the Gradius series, Thunderforce series and R-Type. Added bonus; if you choose not to continue, she says “you need more practice”. MAAAAAAN, that’s Gradius all DAY. ;D Great review, as always! If you haven’t already, MEGA shout to Mars Matrix (Dreamcast)… brilliant experience. Cheers!

An arcade mode that only allows you to do single stages instead of consecutive stages for a full-game run? And one WITHOUT boss fights? That's a first. What a bizarre design choice. I don't think I've seen that in any other shmup. Considering that this game is 3 years old, I doubt that the devs will ever add this option in a patch. Other than that, this game seems way better than R-Type Final 2. Not only is the artstyle better (it does a far better job distinguishing between foreground and background objects and just looks better in general), the sound design for explosions and weapon attacks sound meatier as well instead of the muted tones of RTF2. A shame though that the PS4/XB1 version seems to run better than the PC version (and, judging by your wording, seems to be more responsive than the PC version as well). I would have vastly preferred to play this on PC. Anyway, thanks for this review. I have a new game to play over the next week.

Is it as good as R-Type(Final)Remake ? No. Though R-Tyoe Remake costs more, esp with the DLC? The whole package offers far content including ship customization, more levels, better graphics, more weapons, more enemy variety and different level designs. The gameplay is very close to the original R-Type gameplay too but with improvements.

What would be the simplest way You would describe Bullet Hell shooters to someone who may not be familiar with the genre?

I usually describe them as 2D games where you typically fly in auto-scrolling stages, attempt to shoot everything on screen while avoiding all of the bullets shot at you. The main objective is to get through without continuing and, barring that, on as few credits as possible.

I tried the original Steam game and hated it. A euroshmup with forced analog controls and limited rebinding (no triggers), with explosion-colored bullets. I think I made it 5 minutes in.

I hate to say it but I bought this on steam I was really excited for the original release especially before they announced final two I don't know something about it I just felt off. Like it's a pretty polished title I would say but it just feels like it has that hint of jank, which makes some of the encounters or situations just not seem like they're totally planned out or consistent sometimes or I recall feeling that way. What you said last was actually what really turned me off the more than anything no arcade mode I mean since it's not a traditional scoring arcade mode it's a stage select score attack or whatever something like that I found that the most disappointing and that's too bad they didn't fix that. I still like that they made it though and it looks nice.

The good news is that com8com1 actually mentioned to us that they've acknowledged our desire for a full-run score attack, so it's possible there could be an update in the future. They're only a team of two though, so it might take a while.

Runs Great on YuZu last EA & last Mainline... right now 8 Bucks in the Nintendo Store... BUT this Game is so much, much better than R-Type Wanker-2... (my opinion)
