Rigol DP832 / DP832A - How to Update Firmware to add "Classic" UI -

UPDATE: Holy crap, it's already my 100th video! I completely forgot, so I'll have to make a special video to celebrate soon.
But anyway, do you have a Rigol DP832A and hate the stock user interface? ME TOO! Did you know that if you have newer firmware, you get the option to set it to "classic" mode to match the UI that most power supplies have that makes more logical sense? I have firmware version 1.05, and apparently it's the same deal with 1.06. You don't get "classic" as a UI option on those versions. The newer versions add "classic" as a display option. In this video, I show you how to update the firmware on your Rigol DP832A (or DP832) power supply. It's not super hard, but it's also not as straightforward as it is on other devices.
This video may also be of interest to people with DP832's who are just wanting to update the firmware for bug fixes. DB832's already come with the classic UI as far as I know.
BE WARNED: if you make a mistake, there's a chance that you can brick your power supply, so be careful and do this at your own risk!

Does the new firmware by any chance improve on the indication of CV vs CC mode like e.g. blink the channel LED on CC? Or does it still just display "CV" or "CC" on the top of the channel?

Hi is it to download the instruction PDF? The guide I received in FW update package was TXT only. Without this video, I was not able to perform the update.

Is this a pretty recent revision of this psu?, that is, built long after the problems with the powerregulator inside it? And, how is the visibility on the color display?, from the angle you took the picture, the classic display didn't look too good compared to the non-A model which is green.. (I'm debating with myself wether getting 832 or 832A...)

I have never opened it up to check, but I've never had any problems despite my heavy use. The visibility is really good. The 832 is probably a much better bang for the buck for sure

Your "Link to "request" firmware from Rigol" is no longer operational. Any other source for the firmware?

Does it still have a button only dedicated to go into the dial mode (lower right on the display) after the update? Or have they finally made it possible to switch into waveform mode? The dial mode is probably the biggest facepalm moment on this thing.

+TechnologyCatalyst Thats ridiculous. Of all the display modes the dial mode is the least usefull. The waveform mode is quite usefull, but you have to go through 3 menues to get it. I hope they fix that. Dave has also done a long funny rant about that in his review :D Still cant believe they dedicated a button to that... its like on of the designers was a child wanting to become a race car driver...

I concur. It's quite silly to dedicate a button to a mode that nobody uses. I'd settle for just a dedicated display button that cycles through the display options so you don't have to go through the menu.

RIGOL DP832 has 13-15 millivolts ch1 voltage display error? What about "you must pay 80Eur shipping" for in warranty item? RIGOL even grants official service for a local company that can only ship the thing to RIGOL Germany. Should I ask for donations to the official service center can get RIGOL 6.5 digit DMM to perform their tasks as service center? Need I remind you the DP832 is same as SP832A version with 1mv declared accuracy. What RIGOL does not want you to know is that after you buy the software key for higher accuracy you must also ship the SP832 at your expense to fix this "flaw". The numerous stores I asked to install demo key for high resolution to provide me proof that their SP832 boots and shows all zeros 0.000V failed to do so. They refused to provide such images claiming no demo keys are available. etc. etc. Do not buy this RIGOL DP832 crap PSU, unless you have 6.5 digit DMM and can calibrate it.
