Rilakkuma and Kaoru is a wonderful, warm show about the highs and lows of day-to-day life. Made in beautifully detailed stop motion, it's a show that subverts it's inherent oddness to focus on the relatable, and delivers a season with an episode for every mood.
This is just half the story! Check out this video's companion piece over on Isla's channel: • Rilakkuma & Kaoru - A ...

My partner and I watched this show right around the time our landlord handed us an eviction notice, so it resonated with us in obvious ways. I think it helped me stay optimistic throughout such a stressful time, and watching your video today made me look back on how much our situation and lives have changed for the better since our move. I really love this show, I’d fall asleep to it sometimes it was so relaxing! I hope we get to hang out with Kaoru again in her new apartment soon

Im not much of one for slice of life but this is one of the best shows I’ve watched this year and really for years to come. I think the 12 minute episodes offset the otherwise slow pacing. I never once felt bored. Really just exceptional feel good comedy that makes you a little nervous about your own life

Rilakkuma and Kaoru is genuinely the only show I've ever seen to make me cry at the end of an episode. No other series I've watched throughout my life so far has hit as hard as this show has. For some reason, whether it be from my overly empathetic and sappy attitude making me feel sad alongside these big fluffy, dorky bears. Or if its relating to the messages of "life goes on" and applying that to my life, I dont know. But Netflix's Rilakkuma and Kaoru seriously touched my soul in a way I don't think i can ever get over. Seeing Rilakkuma cry over his melted snow buddies after they danced and had a good time together, juxtaposed with the message of "Nothing Stays the same forever" and the hat and carrot they left him on his porch, makes me cry every time. Cause I know that feeling of not talking to old friends and missing them. But realizing I have the memories and mementos they left. It's seriously something special.

With this and aggretsuko I feel that animation has started to show more importance to the life after high school, with the struggles of college life, adult life, relationships, etc. I grew up with animation and most of the stories stop after highschool and or after turning 18. I still love animation and still connect with characters but sometimes just feel so out of place. But with these shows and others, it's great to see that there is something for everyone.

Really great review Joe and to Isla to as well, Rilakkuma and Kaoru is an anime series I've always been meaning to watch and see eventually someday soon. There just something about it that's seems so wonderfully charming also touchingly moving with the themes it deals with; one thing I love about your channel is how you touch on other anime shows/creators or movies that some people never heard before or ones I feel deserves more attention then the mainstream stuff.

Anyone who likes this show should watch the live-action indie films by the woman who wrote the show, Naoko Ogigami. Particularly try the movie "Rent-a-Cat" (aka Rentaneko), which is a wonderful film about a woman who helps suffering people with their psychological struggles by renting cats to them. This video didn't really enthrall me like all of your others did. With apologies to Isla, but her manner of review was sub-par compared to what I've come to expect/respect about this channel. Part of your charm is your tone, how you seem as in awe of what you're reviewing as someone seeing it for the first time. Whereas most reviewers, while technically as sound, don't sound as passionate about their work, and the subject as you do. Isla didn't show that to me, in the start of the video she talked like someone reviewing a reaction video, almost as if it was the first take. And her later part was her just talking way too quietly, it really becomes apparent after the 7 minute mark. Isla, I have a suggestion. The youtube reviewer pool is really saturated, having an avatar overlay to give a visual emotion to your more varied tone (think TheMysteriousMrEnter) or those like him would really help people identify you.
