I'm a 62 year old grandpa, with health issues. My 15 year old grandson is my best buddy. Wish I didn't have to go.

My PaPa passed away at 5:08am on May 16th in 2016… 7 years later and I still cry like a baby about it. He taught me to fish, to hunt, to be a respectful man, how to treat a lady, I could go on… I wish everyday I could’ve spent more time with him, I was only 15 when he passed and I’ll never forget the phone call. This song kills me. I have raised 4 kids and now I am raising my two granddaughters full time. They are 9 and 10 and it is going on 6 years now. I am 57 and keep going for them. One night while I was tucking them into bed, we were laughing and the oldest look at me and said "Papa I wish you could live forever", the next week I heard this song on the radio going to work, I cried the entire way there. My hope is when they are my age and I am long gone, they will remember me and how much I loved them.

My 90 yo grandfather just passed away today, he was born in 1932, left his high school sweetheart to fight in the Korean War came back home & fought for her. My grandfather taught me everything he had time to. My greatest memories are under the hood of an old truck, fishing, hunting or just side by side on 2 wheels and open country highway. I lost him on September, 1, 2013. I was just a young and dumb teenager and most of the things he taught me never really settled in to much until the past couple years. I was 19 then. Now 26 I understand a lot of what he was always preaching to me. Just wish I would've listened a little closer and a little better. Mechanic/hunting/fishing etc. Stuck with me. I lost mine last year. Just found out about this song after typing in ''grandfather song''. Needed to hear something, whatever was there. Was lucky to find something this good. My grandpa worked his ass of for 30 years in foundry just to saw his money wasted away by his son. After that, in retirement, he started saving every nickle he possibly could just so he could put me in a home on my own. In the mid time, his wife got killed in a car crash and the man never shed a tear. Stayed strong for family. Was of bad health, had a couple of surgeries and a prostate cancer, but he resisted everything just so he can provide something for me. Couple of years later, after accomplishing his goal and providing a place for us to live in, he had a heart attack and could not resist it. I was there until the end. That night, in hospital, we shook hands and i expected to see him again tomorrow but he knew...he knew... i got a call an hour later. Like i said, he managed to save enough, bought me a place that i live today in with my ungrateful parents who continue to let me down and betray me. That is why i miss him more now than ever before. Thank you for everything. You know i loved you with my whole heart. Still do.

My grandfather just passed away today. He is the first family member I’ve ever lost. He was my role model, person who gave me advice and I can admit that I wished I followed most of it and have some regret. I loved that man more than he could ever know. I’ll carry on with my memories that I have with him for as long as I live. His name was Larry. He served in the Vietnam war and was a decorated veteran. For all those that have commented that their Grandad has died recently or is on the verge, I lost my grandad when I was 11 years old. He was an integral part of my life. He was an engineer and a painter as well as a musician. He taught me how to woodwork, draw, take pictures, build anything on earth. He taught me the beginnings of becoming a man. My biological father was never in the picture so his influence and presence was absolutely invaluable to me. It never gets better it seems... even after 15 years it is still so hard to accept that he's gone. I just visited my grandparents North Carolina home with my wife and my grandma that I grew up in for the last time before it gets sold. Those memories and soothing reminders of what an amazing path he helped to pave for me is what keeps me going every day. My last memory of him was him sitting at the bottom of a hill with his camera and lawn chair at the county fair, cheering me on as I raced my soapbox car that he and I built together down the mountain. I still tear up thinking of just how amazingly supportive and loving he was to me. I was a child birthed by a 17 year old mother out of wedlock in a VERY Catholic family. But they never ever once showed any sort of regret or pity towards me. They strengthened and emboldened me to become the man I am today. This song is a heart wrencher, but it's also a great memory and brings us back so close to the ones we lost. God bless all of you, it will get so much better and remember that they are always there watching you from wherever they have gone. Thanks for reading my story about the best Grandad in the world. In April of 2020 I caught Covid 19 Corona Virus. I laid in a hospital bed for 61 days fighting for my life. On April 29th just before they put me on the Ventilator I sent this to my Grandson he was 13 years old. He was my whole world and I didn't want to leave him yet. They gave me a 20-30% to survive and I beat their odds and walked out of the hospital on June 12th to him and other family members and friends that are family as well. Thank you God. ❤

My papa died when I was 9. I’m 33, and I still miss him everyday. Looking at videos or pictures makes me break down like a baby. I was a papas girl. If he would have lived till my teen years, I know for 100% fact, my life would have been completely different. My kids wouldn’t be here, I’d have graduated high school instead of getting my GED, I would have followed my dreams and became a shark biologist. Papas should live for ever.

Pap just passed at 76 battled cancer for 8 years. He was in remission for 4 years, and it came back 10 fold. The man was strong as an ox made of leather. Beat the odds for 8 years till he said no more medicines, machines, he fought! This song played 1 day when i was in the back in the tiny fold chair of his truck, at almost 30 fighting with my little brother, who still got shotgun with the old man. He waited till this song was over on down the road to say, "Grandpa's never died." What a great song! I had the pleasure of seeing Riley sing this with Jelly Roll. I'll never forget that expirenece. He was the coolest, raced in NASCAR, was good friends with Terry Bradshaw, Richard Petty, and other older famous legends. He had his own Cessna airplane, took me flying when I was younger. I moved away from my family about 5 years ago due to a long distance relationship, now we are engaged and she had the pleasure of meeting him before he passed away from a stroke. We got very close taking trips to see my daughter. 120 miles of highway and country driving to go see the most precious little girl. My oldest daughter got pregnant in high school... i did not accept the reality and said things i did not mean. After a year of not on speaking terms and another baby a year after that.. i asked God to forgive me.. i have two beautiful granddaughters 3 and 2 rn..i never experienced this type of love before. My father left when I was two. My granny & pawpaw helped raise me. He could build anything, he knew all the answers to my questions, he taught me how to grow plants & how to fish mullets. He tucked me in at night & he never made be feel less than. He was invincible, he’s my hero. He passed away Thursday April 5th(2 days ago).
