History repeating. A similar thing happened in the late 70s. When O2 Sensors and Catalytic Converters first appeared, the recommended replacement interval was 30,000 miles. It was several years before things changed.

I guess problem is that the MOT is very expensive, ive seen prices range from $300 (aftermarket non brand) to $1800 (Audi original), and then you need someone to replace it for you, so labor is probably $5-600 atleast. So replacing a DPF on a car that is worth maybe $2500 does not seem that feasable option.

Majority of mechanics are, customers however are dumb af and reject repairs then blame the shop when that repair comes a knockin.

Maybe you can fool it but after a restart of the car, the ECU checks again as sees that everything is fine. So conclusion: this error is real! We have had it on our Citroen, just refill the fluid, tell the ECU that with a OBD reader, reset DPF and that's it. You won't believe it? No problem, if you have a citroen/peugeot, you will get this error anyways ;-)

It’s nothing new, Machinery Dealers have been doing this for years. Once had a situation where we were ‘told’ from a well known Plant Brand that we weren’t spending enough money with them every month so they were no longer going to give us any service information about their products that we sometimes needed. We sold 5 machines and replaced them with a foreign competitors equipment and stopped any of our staff Hiring in their Plant on our jobs. We didn’t even get a phone call off them.

All that stuff can be cracked. I have SDD - the Jaguar/Land Rover diagnostics software, even with a changing passcode that needs to be used on every session, I'm still able to use it with a passcode generator.

Well, at least the car can still be operated when the warning sign in that car comes up. Some car manufactures seem to have created a problem of the car failing to start intentionally, a serious problem that may cause someone to miss an important appointment or to be stranded in the middle of nowhere at any time. Not even a jumpstart battery can help. Only a tow truck can help if you don't know how to fix the problem yourself. Here is one example: Google: Nissan Sentra Cars Recalled For Faulty Brake Light Switches The stop lamp switch on some 2016-2019 Sentra vehicles may become contaminated with silicon off-gassing from silicon-based grease used in surrounding components in close proximity. Oxidation may occur at the switch contact surface due to electric arcing, resulting in silicon dioxide build-up When the brake light switch (also called brake pedal switch) stops working, the car does not allow the brake to be pressed down for starting the car, so the car won't start even though the battery is fine. The grease in the brake light switch is absolutely not necessary because the copper contacts are not constantly in friction but only from time to time and the friction is not high enough to wear out the contacts within the lifespan of any vehicle. Moreover, that problem was found to have existed as early as 2004. So for the 2016-2019 models to have the same problem that can be eliminated just by not putting grease on the contacts, it seems the problem was intentionally created or at least intentionally ignored by the manufacturer. In fact the ungreased sliding contacts should have better electrical contact than the greased ones because the occasional sliding contact can polish the contacting surfaces to keep them oxidation free. I was fortunate that my Nissan Sentra 2007 failed to start while it was parking in the garage of my home, so I could check out some DIY KZfaq videos and have problematic grease in the switch removed. Seems like my car was programmed not to be able to start for about 24 hours after the brake light switch was removed and put back on unless the program is overridden because I wasn't able to start my car right after the grease-free switch was put back on. When a tow truck came to my home the next day to tow it to the dealership, I was surprised that the tow truck guy could start my car right away and said there was nothing wrong with my car. Since the problematic grease in the brake light switch was removed about a year ago, the fail-to-start problem has never occurred again. Even if I am going to buy a new brake light switch, I'm going to remove the problematic grease before installing it to avoid having the same problem again. Note: The above is my personal experience only. It should not be construed as my advice on how to solve problems in your vehicle.

How is this a con? DPF has 13 mbar at idle nd 160 mbar at 3000 rpm. And a clean DPF should have up to 10 at idle and up to 80 at 3000. And car says DPF needs to be replaced (replaced by a cleaned one or a new one).

This type of corporate behaviour is worse than the emissions cheating scandal and should be reported to the authorities for action (which should require all affected cars to be repaired free of charge by the manufacturers). You appear to be in a prime position to blow the whistle and provide the evidence to the regulators. I suggest this could be done confidentially so as not to affect any ongoing obligations and benefits eg. pension, which you may have.

It is worse. It was good that Audi pointed out to us what an utter load of shite the emmissions tests are... Revving an engine in a workshop does not show you what the emmissions are when being driven. Tge test should be changed so that the test box is put in the car boot, pipe clipped in and the car taken for a drive. VW / Audi etc German cars do excelent mpg and loads of power EGR is crap as well, wrecks the engine

Back in 2010 I had a Toshiba flat screen tv did this to me. Bought it new from Best Buy. No extended guarantee. Exactly 1 yr 1 week after I bought it, the video chip went bad. Replacement part cost almost as much as just buying a new tv. So I just got a new tv. Never buy Toshiba.

Im a repair tech and the amount of failyng LED components after just 2 years is astonishing, when we know some LED's can work for 20 years, lets cut it in half, a tv should last at least 10 years. I've discussed this with the channel owner and suggested that if he has proof, then he should approach lawyers who will make him rich. I doubt whether he has because his evidence is anecdotal. I do similar work and when I see repeated failures put it down to substandard components or poor design. Peugeot/Citroen have massive problems with Adblue tanks not holding pressure, or pump failure and ithe Adblue injector leaking which blocks the SEC cat. That's not pre-planned obsolescence, just crap parts fitted year back that are failing well beyond they expected life span. Volvo are also having the same problem with the injector leaking but it's much rarer with other vehicles. Land Rover products are just crap in general and use the worst 2.0 diesel engine that's used across the entire range but again when they fail, its poor design. Negligence rather than obsolescence. The end result is the same, expensive repairs are needed but there's no need to invent conspiracy theories. If there are lines of code buried in the software, someone would have found them. Not with the equipment shown, or by anyone in a garage environment, but by a real nerd able to access the source code and understand it. Where you will increasingly find vehicles having to be scrapped long before time, is with EVs where high component costs will render repairs unviable. I've already seen several seen several Renault Zoes that have had £7000 repair bills that are more than the cars are worth, Those owner's had usable, tradeable cars one day that became worth nothing instantly.

The computer is not an issue as long as you can get the codes yourself. For example I have 2013 ford focus 1.6 tdci. I bought 80€ obd cable from amazon and forscan license and I have all I need to diagnose and repair my own car. For BMW there is INPA, for VW there is vag com etc.

My new refridgerator has low voltage tech and it's runs constantly I can find NO WHERE what the voltage is I know because the installer slipped and told me. My new stove has burners that cut off at 450 degrees I can't even hard boil eggs and if I change the burners I will void the warranty and my insurance will not cover a kitchen fire. My newsed $26,000 car has a defective fuel pump and may have a faulty engine block and need a new engine. My new wood floors are warping and the company won't take care of it. Planned obsolescence is completely legal, and most of the semi-official monopolies/guilds/cartels are doing it for like hundred years now, as industry standard. Things are made to break down in the shortest term possible. People who don't do that just can't compete cause if you make product that lasts 2 years you make 5 times as much money as if you make product that lasts say 10 years. So you can only get good stuff as a custom order by paying many times the market price, if its option at all. Same thing is happening in medicine, and its even worse, where they no longer cure disease, but offer treatments that need to continue. They no longer sell solutions, they sell subscriptions of addictive substances, or upsell you with side effects of one medicine needing another medicine. You gotta do your research or doctor will gladly wreck your kidneys to sell more dialysis machines or whatever the fuck other "treatment" loops are out there. Can't just trust your doctor to tell you what to do, you gotta do your own research so you don't get scammed and your health ruined.

Which is completely stupid. My V50 has the 1.5 Ford TDCi variant of this engine and its DPF life is going on for 300.000 kilometers, even with a faulty engine in between. As long as you don't deliberately abuse them, DPF's are pretty resilient and their construction is simple.

I had a 68 Ford with a warning light that ran on a 9 volt battery which was clipped into the dash with no connected to anything else in the vehicle.

I have always sayed that with cars that have some sort of chip in them could be programed to either fail or send a fault code and now when manufacturers and cars can communicate with each other through WiFi or other means a weird thing happen last Christmas to me I have a 2014 bmw f30 had to put a new battery in have been told when the battery starts to go it turns things of on the car don't know if this is true but when I put the new one in and programed it certain little things started to come on but the strangest was I got a email from bmw saying my car needed a service with the correct mileage of the car at that time which is what they went by not by time I never old them but it made me wonder what else is going on I do drive a jcb telehandler and this thing tells jcb and certain people in the office were it is how much diesel its using idle and been used hours a day and week any problems with it and a lot of other things so if plant is doing this what is your car doing

Exactly, my plumber said my 6 year-old gas boiler is "on the limits" of emissions. It is one of the newer clean burn types, runs perfectly, and to be honest very low mileage.

Just use liquid oven cleaner, block one end of the DPF, pour it in leave it about 1,1.5 hours then half an hour with a hot low pressure washer, dry off with compressed Air making sure all the moisture has gone then refit. That will be £50 please.

The ECU code is usually read-protected. If you can identify the chip being used, you could spend an inordinate amount of time and money building your own system.

Yes we can disassemble an ecu, or any other module. It just takes time, effort, and the smarts to do so.

The broken boost pipe is a common problem. It will screw up the MAF air flow reading which causes an abnormally high (calculated) soot content in the DPF, even if the pressure isn't excessive, as well as a low boost fault, and that will inhibit regeneration. The bigger problem with the 1.6D (16 valve) engines is that the injector oil seals will start leaking over time, causing the engine to burn oil, and this will contaminate the DPF. The injectors as well as the seals *are* a service item.

I had a Volvo V50 for just over 7 years I loved the car but over that time I spent a lot of money on it for various things , I had it on diagnostic machines quite a few times fitted sensors , E G R , even though it had been serviced every year, I'd just got it through its M O T cost me over £300 for brakes and stuff , I even put 2 new tyres on it , thinking it was going to last me a few more years , a couple of weeks after my m o t , I got an engine dash light on saying reduced engine power , then it cut out , put it in a garage another diagnostic check, only to be told it looks like injectors, but not sure will cost about £1000 , by this time I'd had enough, if the car hadn't have had the problem it was worth £ 2000 , I'd payed £6000, I ended up getting £500 , I've since bought something less complicated, a 1.2 petrol Vauxhall .

I heard that Volvo knew about this problem , but rather than address it , they incorporated the fault / problem in on a service schedule at a latter date , this is fraudulent in my opinion, what do you think 🤔

I had a V50 petrol, it loved to fail often. It was constantly in-n-out of repair shop. It was 15y old at the time, but gee. Suspension and lambda sensors was a recurring theme. When everything was in order, the car was quite good. A bit slow acceleration, but good. Very good on snow.

Stop lying, automatic breaking doesn't use camera it uses radar it's impossible for it to pickup shadows... You get visual and sound warning if something is close it's super useful especially for trucks. Automatic breaking is last resort, it will only work if it knows your going to hit something and systems like that were perfected over years and work very well and save many people. No your truck doesn't stop if mirror camera fails, your mirror camera is placed in such way it will not rain on it and is illegal in most places so it's only addition or tech demo. While steering all options from one screen is problematic if it fails it's not needed for driving, car will work with it broken (new ram pickups have that issue). Most of the tech you mentioned is not as new as you think and almost never fails, points of failure remain the same as in old cars, low quality connectors in places where elements can reach them, wear and tear of unserviced cars, electrical gremlins that can happen even on old cars and obviously bad design.

It was a motorway at 2200 hrs , and the road was almost empty . I've had other instances where the braking system has activated shifting the load for no actual safety reason . Thirdly the cameras are not placed where spray cannot affect them . That is an impossible task , otherwise they would have figured out a way of removing the wipers by now . Anyone with a reversing camera will tell you the same thing . That's similar to my maths teacher at school putting a bit of black tape over the oil pressure light on his Morris 1300 becasue it was always on! If you break it your better off buying a new one, if you try repairing it yourself with new parts or get it done by a uncertified repairer the phone is intentionally blocked from working order, not because it isn't compatible, just because it's blocked in the software.

I find that story a bit hard to believe. Even the most ordinary of Briggs and Stratton engines can go decades and decades with no degradation of the carb's butterfly. I've never, ever heard of a butterfly in ANY engine ever failing.

Yes this happens EVERY time with my printer. It's designed into the system to sell more ink. Compatible cartridges are quite often not accepted, or may cause a printer fault.
