Hey great video! I happened to come across this video and was very interested through the beginning while you were going over the tools. I thought I recognized the voice and then when it panned out to show your face I realized, you were my teacher for 2 levels of my apprenticeship! Thanks for the video, very educational!

Outstanding video... it´s really amazing how you managed to sqeeze in so many details in only one video. Thank you. Just one thing that got me a bit confused... about the "HA" measurements: 1:14:13 you said you were going to move 35,2 Thous 1:15:52 you said you were "moving" 32,5 Thous (a digit switch) 1:16:45 you were right on target! I thought you were going to be slightly "off" because of that digit confusion.

Yes. It’s 15mil dial reading sweep across a 4.25” coupling reading diameter. We were trying to figure out the number of miles per inch of misalignment. I apologize for the confusion there.

Thank you so much for documenting this, very thorough and extremely helpful. At 44:00 when recording the readings for the adjustment, if the reading at 12:00 (I think you meant 6:00?) is -5 mil, that implies the back end of the motor is higher, and if it were +5 mil, the front end of the motor would be higher?
@Stubbornnut
@Stubbornnut Жыл бұрын
hi tbone. yes you are correct. i said 12 o’clock but i should have said 6. good catch. it’s really important to remember that when the dial plunger is pushed into the dial indicator, the needle will turn clockwise or positive. once you can keep that straight in your head it’s a matter of stopping and thinking about what the face orientation is and whether you add or take out from the back or front.

I would much rather deal with those couplings instead of the fulk flex head couplings having we had them on a crusher with a hydraulic clutch in between such a bad set up finally talked them into switching to an orange peal coupling had to drill some holes in the peel to make the engineers feel better about it not breaking the 4¹⁵/¹⁶ in shaft lol
@Stubbornnut

Hi bro. , Can I know the function of that part (yellow in colour,KL Embosed on body )which is placed before the impeller

that is the pump rotating assembly. it houses the bearings, shaft, and lubricant. sometimes cooling lines also.

it is super informative video. But there is a point that I don't figure out. There was a soft foot and u added 3 thou shim under it but still moving not hard.
@Stubbornnut
@Stubbornnut 8 ай бұрын
the thicker shims bring the motor to elevation. once they are placed one of the feet will be “soft”. check to see what the gap is under that foot and add the appropriate shim to correct. if you add too much you will create a different foot to be soft. so it’s best to correct it with a tolerance of .002”. i hope that helps.
@fatihsoy3443
@fatihsoy3443 8 ай бұрын
@@Stubbornnut So, first we find a soft foot and indicate the gap under foot and correct it to the tolerance gap right ? it doesn't have to be hard.
@Stubbornnut
@Stubbornnut 8 ай бұрын
it really is the order of operations. if you place the shims under the feet to bring to elevation then you can identify the soft foot easily. especially if you mix the shim to verify thickness. an issue many don’t realize is that some motor frames are designed to be shimmed and if you try to figure softfoot without the initial shim adjustment the motor frame is high center ed on its belly and you will be tricked.
@Stubbornnut
@Stubbornnut 8 ай бұрын
no it’s not hard at all. it’s ridiculously simple.

Companies do want you to do alignments with a rotalign. It's important that you know how to do a dial indicator alignment you never know what you are going to encounter. Employer's don't want half trained employees Retired Millwright here

Sorry about that Stu. I was disappointed also. I made this video for my class during covid. The horizontal moves are the same as vertical but you use the jacking bolts. I hope it wasn't a waste of your time and that you gained something from it.
@joediverfl
@joediverfl Жыл бұрын
Dude, I hope you feel bad about that race to your conclusion, but good you did dig through the class. He must be a teacher, and knows every single TIR and adjustment, could probably do it blindfolded like we had to R&R our M-16's including the whole bolt and receiver group in pitch black in under 2 minutes back in the day. Now THAT was wasted time. :)
@Stubbornnut
@Stubbornnut 8 ай бұрын
dude, i did this on short notice as a substitute. as you can see we had to switch pumps because the base was garbage. if i had done this before why choose the wrong pump to begin with? However i do agree. i have done so many lump alignments it feels like i could do it blindfolded.

The final step would have been super easy. The motor now is only horizontally parallel offset. Turn the jacking bolts evenly motor slides a few mils along the shims and its set Great video
