Oh my god this is so strange you said this because I was watching this season thinking because of how much they have set up the back story of each character and race we know all there feelings and motivations and problems. I was thinking to myself this anime can now basically totally switch up the dynamics of the show and make it gritty and dark because they have me totally invested in the cast.

I like the wholesomeness in season1. Is kinda sad to see that part is sort of gone and the serious part seems like they will kick in

I actually love the happy dynamics of the anime how it's so feel good. But I also feel like the anime can now expand into almost berzerk level of quality since the cast is already so lovely and enraged into are minds there life's there purposes. There motivations. This anime has set us up to get crushed like game of thrones level of pain when people die.

I like the idea that the isekai MC is not the only one with broken powers or special knowledge. This kind of situation, where they are taken by surprise and placed in very real danger, can be used to drive home that they graduated to a tier where beings with similar or superior levels of competence exist. It drives home that there is still a lot of room for growth. But regarding normal NPCs, yeah, the top tier are like high or epic level DnD characters, so powerful that normal people need to be very prepared and risk a lot to take them down. Even the kijin, who are a cut above the rest, are not in the same league as Rimuru, Hinata or the Maous.

Theres a LOT of Otherworlders in the Slime world, hell theres a country in that world that has a whole military division made entirely of Otherworlders...thats one of the cool things of this work in that the MC aint the most unique one being from another world, hes one of many only diff is hes the only reincarnated one all the rest were summoned by mages in a ritual, and sure he started with some busted skills(tho Slimes are generally creatures with unlimited potential so thats kind of fair) but some of those Otherworlders are quite wild too. e.g. Hinata is near Hero status(as in the equivalent of a Demon Lord) thats why shes so damn OP against our boy
