So let me get this straight. You have a Ring doorbell that clearly shows the POLICE are at your door. The officer knocks and announces "POLICE." The officer is knocking politely and there's no evidence that anyone is trying to force their way into your home. The officer announces a second time "FARMINGTON POLICE." The officer knock politely a third time and announces "FARMINGTON POLICE." You then decide you are going to open the door with a pistol and point it at who you CLEARLY KNOW are POLICE OFFICERS? What did you expect the outcome to be?

Obviously, you've never had firearms training. The video just showed that he did not point the weapon as if he was aiming. The stance he took was a "ready" position. Though the firearm was forward, it was not leveled to point at any target. That position is SOP when you do not know if you will be required to discharge the weapon in your defense.
@meatpopsicle1567
@meatpopsicle1567 Жыл бұрын
@@davidhorsley1149 That doesn't matter. What should be obvious, was that it was wrong to jump out the door with a firearm in the first place! What sensible person would do that, especially if you don't know who is outside, how many there are, or even if they present a threat? Why even open the door? Call 911 and stay inside, like a normal person would do, just in case there is a threat outside. Defend your living space, not your front yard!
@davidhorsley1149
@davidhorsley1149 Жыл бұрын
@meatpopsicle1567 No one can say what his frame of mind was. It was said, he had been in bed and one of his children said someone was trying to get in the house. Plus, the police have a duty to identify themselves, and if you watch the video, though the officer did say police, he barely did so in a voice that could be heard through a door. I doubt the residents inside heard him. Lastly, as to your defend your "living space" bull shit. In my state and many others, property ownership is a Constitutional right. There is no distinction as to whether that is personal property or real property, inside your home or outside. If it is your property, you have a Constitutional right to defend it, including your automobiles and the yard surrounding your home. The part that is not clearly heard in this video is that the two officers that were away from the door voiced the fact that they had the wrong address. If you watch the video , you see the officer in the background go back to the front, check the address, and admit they are at the wrong address. In this instance, the police made a mistake that cost an innocent man his life, they had a duty to pull back until they were sure of what they were doing. And as far as I know they have not been held accountable for their negligence. I am totally "Pro-Police", but Police are human too. And when they end a person's life through carelessness or negligence, there needs to be equal consequences to a citizen costing an officer his life. At the bare minimum, these officers should be removed from the force and prohibited from working in law enforcement anywhere else. They obviously do not have what it takes to be entrusted to patrol a community while armed. As to any mistake you attribute to the homeowner, he paid the ultimate price and his family is still paying today.

And what is with cops always showing up in the dark? Cops intentionally arrive at dumb hours, hoping to catch the person in a disoriented state (half asleep). That same disoriented state should be able to be used as a defence, making the person not completely responsible for their actions. *in jail, guards knew better than to shake a sleeping inmate. You could come up swinging, you being ‘startled awake’ was a valid defence for ‘defending yourself’. It’s why guards would stay by the bottom of the bed and just shake your foot.

You are wrong, it was the front door. And have you ever tried to knock on a screen door? No, you open the screen and knock on the wooden door. It's funny how hyper critical you can be of somebody without having any knowledge of the situation.

Lol reading your statement tells me all I need to know about you criminal. I guess your way of remedial thinking is what got you in prison in the first place. Betcha you never answer the door with a gun pointed at the police. Stupid people suck.

👮‍♂️ ~ Cops preemptively point guns at citizens all the time during “high risk“ calls and traffic stops. So why can’t a homeowner do the same thing during a high risk knocking at his front door in the middle of the night? Because for anybody who doesn’t know, the cops were at the wrong house. I do believe the cops had every right to shoot this guy. But that said, if cops are able to preemptively point guns at citizens why can’t reverse happen? I just mentioned this because if anybody watches this who constantly defends cops then they need to think about what’s fair and right. _Edit 8/17/23: updated voice dictation typo from the word “I“ to the word “they“. Don’t ask me why my voice dictation makes that mistake sometimes.

You can’t preemptively point your gun at a cop because we as a society have said that’s retarded and you deserve to die if you do it. If you don’t like it, make your own society. See how long it lasts with civilians “preemptively” pointing guns at cops all night long. I swear some ppl have literally 0 critical thinking skills.

You 100% can point a gun preemptively but the person at the door will point a gun back at you if they are armed. The home owner handled the situation very poorly, if those were armed intruders it would have ended exactly the same way.

"if cops are able to preemptively point guns at citizens why can’t reverse happen? " Because cops are uniformed officers of the law and we GIVE them that authority. It's against the law for a private person to point a gun at someone unless there is a threat.

@@rael5469- I almost liked your comment until I realized it was actually in opposition to me. Lol. I do understand the cops have that authority, but that’s why I made this comment toward those who constantly defend Police. Even though I think police are very often inappropriately criticized, I also think cops need to have a little bit of empathy for all the people they point guns at. That’s basically what I was getting too. When I got this pointed at you it doesn’t feel good even if it is somebody who is a cop. Cops have done wrong and accidentally shot people, and cops have outright murdered people on purpose, etc. So anybody who is a big defender of Police needs to have some empathy and realize that cops shouldn’t unnecessarily point guns at people. _Edit 8/24/23: made a small voice dictation typo correction._

@@iMatti00 Matt I never said cops have carte blanche. I merely state that in this case and similar ones they have the authority to be armed......and to defend themselves as in this case. I can think of the Philando Castile case where an officer was too quick to shoot. "After five days of deliberation, he (Officer Yanez) was acquitted of all charges in a jury trial on June 16, 2017. After the verdict, Yanez was immediately fired by the City of Saint Anthony. Wrongful death lawsuits against the City brought by Reynolds and Castile's family were settled for a total of $3.8 million. " Wikipedia The jury in Yanez criminal trial got it wrong. His employers got it right by firing him.
