Before Rings of Power, the show runners had written not one episode of television. Their only credit was uncredited additional writing on the film Star Trek Beyond. One of the two has an engineering degree. How they could possibly be hired to do a show this big is a great question.

If they ever achieve that goal - and they well might - it will be simple to select what to watch: anything with a high critics rating is to be avoided. Low rating means worth a look.

The show-runners response would be that reading is obsolete and that books as a whole are not accessable. That the show is aiming at a post-literate audience.

@@Jim-Tuner 'Post literate audience' I find that pretty funny. I think the majority of 'modern entertainment' is targeted (its a real weapon) towards such an audience. MSMBS and 'public education' is all about dumbing people down. Their target market is obviously and quite ironically 'yet to be' mature wise people. It's why there's over a thousand channels and networks, yet it takes 1/2 hour to find something maybe worth watching. I often just give up and read a freakin book. Anybody who can read and comprehend knows the movies based on books generally pale in comparison to the books anyways. Even LOTR trilogy, Master and Commander and Dune, some of my favorite books turned into movies, were a bit disappointing compared to the book's depth and detail. I did however really enjoy these movies, Master and Commander in particular was a great and underrated movie. Patrick O'Brien's Aubrey/Maturin volume of books are something a reader really needs to want to read. Its not exactly an easy read like LOTR or even Dune. Most movies are made obviously shorter to accommodate common short attention spans of the typical consumer. I'm not one of those. I'd tolerate an intermission or even two during a 4-6 hr movie. I'd even pay extra for a proper,Iong and high quality movie. I demand more! Therefore I rarely go to any movies anymore! I know much better than to support Hollyweird.

Yeah that´s the difference. LOTR in both book and movie form is not very fast paced. Don´t get me wrong, there are some great action sequences like Moria, but not on the whole. But the pace lets you breathe. It lets you understand the world you are in. It opens the door to the world, to its people and characters, to the places and to the history. You begin to care for it, because it is something you know. Saving it becomes important. And the same goes for the whole of the legendarium. His prose has the power to suck you in, to make you care. RoP just doesn´t. You don´t care for the people because you don´t know them. You don´t care for the places because you don´t know properly where you are or what is the significance. There is no depth.
