My ex-wife has a cousin from Moscow. Both he and his son are PhDs in Astrophysics. Both are working in highly academic and valued positions in the US. I don't know how y'all come up with unintelligent as a trait for Russians, but they have won 30 NOBEL PRIZES..more than Japan and 3 times more than China. On a positive note, Russia is hemorrhaging their brightest and best lights to Europe and the West at an alarming rate as Putin turns Russia into an evil black hole. 🕳

Here on the western side of the USA (State of Arizona), sadly numbers stations are too distant to pick up, however on occasion I can pick up the 'Japanese Slot Machine'. I was tickled the first time I picked it up late one night. Thanks for covering these very interesting stations and giving thorough explanations of them. Well done. 👍

A few nights ago I was scanning between 8-7MHz and I found somebody KEYING by turning a Tetra-like signal on and off. I thought it was just some protocol thing at first - but nope, somebody was keying it by hand. That's somebody that badly needs a telephone.

Thank you for sharing this interesting and educational video with us. A couple of weeks ago I came across your excellent KZfaq channel and the all the wonderful videos you are making. It rekindled my interest in shortwave radio and now, for the first time in 40(ish) years, there's a long wire antenna out in the garden and a short wave receiver on my desk!

Just so you know, the 7300's spectrum/waterfall can be set to be on the carrier or suppressed carrier in SSB instead of in the middle of the filter. It helps to be more consistent with other panadapters or spectrum analyzers.

Excellent work, Mr. Ringway. Thanks to you, I've started doing more SW listening. I even bought an ATS-20+ because why not? It's super affordable. Even with an external wire antenna, though, it doesn't seem to get great reception where I live, and since it doesn't come with any instructions I'm left to hunt around the internet for hints on the various features and controls. My best SW radio, though, is an old Grundig FR-200 that I bought years ago, probably at Radio Shack before they folded. It's an analog tuner so I never know exactly which frequency I'm on, but even with the built-in telescopic antenna I can pick up a lot of stations at the right time of day. I swear I heard that some morse code station the other night, around that same frequency.

There's a modem-encoded text file included as one of the audio tracks on Information Society's 1992 album _Peace and Love, Inc._ under the title "300BPS N, 8, 1 (Terminal Mode or ASCII Download)", which, conveniently, is also the instructions for how to decode it. It's a short story about some weird stuff that supposedly happened to the band in Brazil.

Who came up with a distinction between E11's null messages and actual traffic transmissions, to call the latter "E11A"? They all go in same schedules, and the format for both types of transmissions is actually the same - the two digits following the word "Oblique" in the call-up indicate the number of 5-digit groups to be sent. Obviously, if it says 00, then no message is to be sent :) And when there is one, each group is repeated twice, and afterwards the whole message is repeated once again - this time each group is read just once. So again, there's no such thing as "E11A" :) There is S11a, that's true, but that's because years ago they sometimes used a Polish-language variant, which ENIGMA/ENIGMA2000/Priyom designated simply S11. Unfortunately, few recordings exist of this variant :(

Hi lewis, just wondering if you'd be interested in doing a off-topic video on the alternative to numbers stations, the online "the net" with sandra bullock style super secret spy contact system that the US and UK used, right up until Iran hacked it, and provided the russians and chinese with the technique.... 😮 Theres a good 'Darknet Diaries' podcast about it that drills it down to normal person tech level, its worth a listen, then maybe make a off-topic video off the back of it? It was absolute carnage for US and UK intel, pretty much a total loss in 3 major countries, and partial losses in plenty others. Still recovering now 👀
