Rio carnival 2012. "Portela" parade. Clip.
On the first night of the Carnival Special Group in Rio de Janeiro, the Marquês de Sapucaí was taken over by the music and colors of Bahia in the Portela parade, the second school to go through the Sambódromo. With a story that honored Clara Nunes, who would have turned 70 if she were alive in 2012, the biggest holder of Rio Carnival titles brought to the avenue icons of the festival and Bahian culture such as Afoxé and Olodum and singer Daniela Mercury. The drums of Portela, commanded by Master Nilo, brought drums to represent the beats of Afoxé Sons of Gandhy, a traditional group of the Bahia carnival. It took a lot of creativity to support the weight of the instruments: they came on casters. Thus, the players only need to push them along the samba catwalk. Another feminine highlight was the muse Vânia Love, sister of the player Vagner Love, who sambou and enchanted the public with the fantasy "I am the sky for its storms". She raised Sapucaí by improvising a few African steps during the parade.
