Experience the 1970's D&RGW, an era when the locomotives were retrofitted with diamond stacks and wore flying Rio Grande lettering. I “Chase and Pace” K28 #476 From Durango to Rockwood. This Durango & Silverton Fall Photo Special had a 7am departure so it was in the dark and in the shadows.
Enjoy,
Bob

Thanks, brother! My first exposure to the narrow gauge was riding behind this engine to Silverton in 1968. Track south to Farmington and east to Chama was still in place. Memories!

I wonder if 476 can one day be painted into its bumblebee paint scheme like 473? 476 never wore it before so I think they should give it a try in the future!

Awesome, that’s amazing how 476 looked like back in the 1970’s. 473 and 478 did wore both Diamond Smokestacks also in the 1960s and 70s also!

So happy to see one of your videos! I really loved watching the smoke through the trees. Here she comes. Your videos always puts a smile on my face and a tear in my eye. Love those steam trains!

@@whitcraft4578 I see, and I wonder if the diamond stack will ever return, because these kinds of spark arresters happened to be my favorite.

A very great photo charter. Oh, I like how they added a cinder trap on top of the diamond smokestack even though 476 is now an oil burner back then in the 70s it was completely different as 476 was a coal burner which gives the illusion.

D&S Got the lettering wrong on the left side of the tender. It's supposed to slant forward, not to the rear.

According to Big Diehl, It was discussed at the event that it was historically correct. It looks like by 1972 only the single stencil (RH) was used resulting in the 'backwards' herald on all the left sides of the K-28's in Durango. Thanks for watching.
