You started with Trent in midfield, where he normally plays with fast forward who run beyond defenders, so how does playing foden and Saka work? Clueless. Also cancels out the fact that foden should be playing there because he wants the ball to feet which is shown by him coming inside occupying the space which Jude is in. Jude should be playing slightly above rice and allowed to arrive late in the box. His function at Madrid is completely different because he also plays with Vini jr and Rodrigo (two fast forwards) and no real no.9. It’s BONKERS to suggest anything else. Your only hope is playing Palmer and Gordon who are fearless and don’t care who they play against they just have a freedom to commit defenders and be daring. It’s so blatantly obvious that everyone else on that team is a systems player and their raw natural ability has been stunted when not in a system that suits them. Play the raw players !

Palmar and Gordon came on and did well against a tiring Slovenian team who are at best a bottom 3 side in the PL and where not one of their players could make the England squad . I don't feel enthused at all but I do feel we've been lucky and hope we can do better in the next game (we can't do any worse .......can we?).

I'm not English and I can't believe the negativity by the English pundits. England are top of the group. I don't get it. Which country would be upset with that? OK Rio. Was there any danger that we wouldn't top that group had we played to our potential? No Have we played anywhere near our potential? No Will we struggle to play and win against a semi-well coached team with technically and tactically proficient players? Yes Can you see why there is a large unhappiness? This is the bigger picture. The team is imbalanced, midfield, attack, left side. How is that possible? We get freebie qualifying groups. Should never be experimenting in a tournament! Mainoo should have played from the start of the tournament. Gordon should be on the left to stretch the opponents defence and cause them to drop deeper. Palmer or Saka on the right. Then on the basis of the 3 games, Foden as the 10 (as Bellingham is probably knackered after his season based on the 3 games). Kane looks unfit and off the pace, so Watkins should feel a little aggrieved he hasn't seen more minutes.

Why are we playing football from the 00s still? Times have changed, our players have changed. Kane upfront - he's past his sell by date for the type of players we bring out and that do so well in EPL. The players we bring out now are different and are favoured to the style of EPL managers.

Gordon as LW, Palmer as RW, Foden as the 10, Watkins as CF. YES it's risky, but that is a well balanced team, that will buss up all these teams. Gareth won't play that in a million years

Even if they play other players, it will be the same result. If Palmer, Mainoo, Gordon started those games it will still be the same outcome. The team is disjointed from the squad selection. Starting 3 RBs, no left back in the squad. No DMF, and no one should mention Rice, cos even in Arsenal, he does better when Jorginho or Partey plays deep and he’s released on the left of the midfield. No like form like substitute.

Move Saka to LB, to make way for Palmer and rest Tripps (can't see Shaw being match ready), rest Bellingham (he is too off the boil and not gelling with the squad), move Foden to no.10 role and play Gordon as wing forward on the left. Start Mainoo as the best solution for the midfield dilemma, bonus that he has great link up play with Palmer and Gordon. I think they are the only tweaks required to get us fully functioning, maybe even get Watkins warmed up early if the system is not working for Kane. If the boss does this or makes those subs nice and early then he answers to the critics in style
