Multiversus isn't attracting because it's mostly TV shows characters and not video games characters. Video games have their own meta of popularity, otherwise games like Mad Max and Avatar would top the charts - as they released alongside popular movies. Star Wars is one of the only exception and that's because they've been making niche games for a looooong time and there's a desire to explore more of this universe. Dragon ball another because people want more fights. That's about it. For the scope of brawlhalla, it's doing REALLY well

I doubt Riot would give up that easily on "Pool Party". I'm confident that Riot would revisit the idea in the future once they figure out how to make their own spin to the game and not just "Smash Bros but League". Riot is definitely aware of the state of the platform fighting genre. I don't think Riot would even green lit the project if there's little to no chance the game would turn a profit.

A SuperSmash with LoL would be AWESOME! They already have all thier moves and Skins for multiple characters on screen at once. And with ARCANE season 2 coming out this year, it would be an EASY slamdunk!

Ive been a league and melee player for years and im super bummed to hear this. Honestly the depth of movement and the feel of melee hasnt been replicated by any modern game and while i have doubts that riot would be able to make it as good as melee, i would have loved to see them try. It sucks because the modern platform fighters made based off melee(multiverses, all star brawl, ultimate, etc.) Seem to struggle to make a good feeling learning curve. The more time and practice you put into melee, the better it feels, and that feeling never goes away. I feel like the issue with those newer games is they make the learning curve and movement more or less accessible from day 1 so after a few months of playing you basically have all the tech down and its just a matter of ironing it out. Melee isnt perfect and theres things that i feel make it feel harder than nessecary like l cancelling, but its that challenge and always feeling like im getting better and the game feels better is just so good in melee. Its one of the most rewarding learning curves ive ever had in a video game or out of it

Unfortunately if it was going toward a more casual route, it was probably a good decision to cancel it. It's not going to be able to compete with Smash for that audience. Should have just went forward with the original competitive vision or focused on 2XKO from the start instead of trying to make two fighting games at once (even though platform fighters aren't really a traditional fighting game).

Heya! i actually play tested this game here on the Philippines, it was super fun and almost ready for release sad to see it never get out but i was soo lucky i got to test it!

I think Pool Party would've done better than the hopes for their fighting game. It's hard for even fighting game legends like King of Fighters or Soul Calibur to compete with Tekken and Street Fighter. Not to mention it's market is even more crowded than the party fighter genre.

Smash bros may have had a good sale but that didn't really guarantee Riot would too a part of the reason (if not the major one) why smash does succeed in this genre while any other company doesn't (despite everything) is because Smash already has decades of history in this genre with a fanbase of players who have been playing and enjoying the title over those decades and it's generally a little hard to kill a large community who has been existing for decades even if the genre is falling apart On the contrary, others are seen as "smash bro copies" and don't attract as much the attention for they have to build up a community from the ground thus have to give a first impression... First impression in which they are given a ceiling of standard to meet expectation named Smash Bros. and if they don't surpass that ceiling, they fall apart.

Honestly though, Riot could've broken the ice with this platform fighter. Reason Multiversus and others failed, was because they also setup to be a quick buck gambit. I mean look at how deep Multiversus went... not really at all. At times it was janky and felt unfinished. Plus the Beta was out for so long, that hype died before the game released. With as much polish and marketing Riot can do for their own titles, their new game honestly would survive with no issues (id just suggest porting it to steam too, so the potential audience can be larger).

With Riot Forge, I only wanted either a Smash Bros. Game or Mario Kart themed around Bandle City. That's all I wanted... Though a Survival Horror game of running away from Warwick, Nocturne, Fiddlesticks, Evelynn, etc. wouldn't have been bad either. But thankfully this means they can't mess things up like adding a bunch of characters from only one section of the roster ( *Cough* *Cough* Fire Emblem)

I think why multi versus isn’t so popular is the weird 3d the way financial side is managed and most of all they balanced the game into a 2vs 2 when the smash audience whant proper 1 vs 1 fun mechanics

Nintendo games have a way of being casual friendly, yet mechanically deep. Smash Ultimate is crazy when you really deep dive into what a character can do, and Splatoon 3 has been pushed quite far as well. Rivals of Aether is just melee mechanics and the characters are kind of hard to play, where as in Smash Ultimate, anyone can play Ike, Samus, Kirby, Ganon, and many more, it's simple but very hard to master.

I believe with the development of Arena there could a direction to go into "casual competitive". Someway to make it somewhat party mode, but with competitive options.

i would buy pool party if it meant they would continue development. it would be so fun to play with friends on a couch like its the 2000s again.

also, the subgenre is called "platform fighter" not "party fighter" also also, i'm with tb skyen on this one, multiversus failed because it made dumb bad decisions that their playerbase didn't like, but that doesn't mean that pool party would necessarily fail. Heck pool party would make bank as long as they give enough time between the launch of Project L and pool party for both of them to breath.

brawl is hated for the tripping because you cant turn it off, but other then that smash can be as wacky as you want, making the casual/competitive distiction is kind of dumb here, they dont have to be mutually exclusive, smash is both casual and competitive depending on how you are playing, you just have to give the players the option to do whatever they want

I feel like the project should've continued, they have everything to be able to succeed at it. First, Smash Bros fans are starving for a new experience and the competitive scene would do anything to be able to be supported by the company. Second, roster wise is the best thing ever and the setting in terms of both "for fun" and "competitive" modes could've been so easy to manage, just as in Smash and even League, you have the option to do draft or ranked or go to an ARAM if you feel like just having fun. Lastly, the monetization system would've been the same as in League, skins, entrances, loading screens, taunts or emotes, etc, we don't have that in Smash and it would've been just right for the genre. I think it was a missed opportunity.

I never considered how a lot of people bought smash for reasons outside competitive play - and I was one of those people actually. Friendly competition and the various single player modes in addition to the character roster. Other platform fighters don’t really compare, and if they’re free to play they are heavily focusing on the competitive aspect of it. Nintendo meanwhile makes a sale whenever and the numbers don’t necessarily reflect anything other than that.

I agree with Necrit- I think Riot made the right call in pulling the plug. I'm down for a Riot platform fighter, but I don't think there's a massive audience to draw from if you build the game from the ground up to be a hyper-competitive tryhard experience. I think the League community has shown it has an appetite for fun, casual game modes. So I think a platform fighter that's designed to be a casual party game from the get-go would make much more sense. Just make sure it has depth for those who wish to pursue it. The problem is building a title that can actually compete with the industry Gaint in Smash would likely take a highly specialized team and a ton of money. Maybe trying to compete simply isn't worth it. I do want to see a Riot-made party-style game one day though.

It would have clashed too much with 2XKO, especially when 2XKO will be called the "Riot/League Fighting Game" by the playerbase and it would take alot of attention and marketing power away. In addition to the risk with Party Fighters like SSB

i think at the first they really confident about league universe can be selling good, but so many project not really have a good sign and their economy its not stable, so they play safe now not to be aggresive anymore. and i think they will do this smashbros genre as a last bullet to make player stay playing, like tft in League, POC in LOR, or they just do basic game as foundation and other genre can be added anytime they want

brawlhalla is actually very widely successful, having some of the biggest prize pools in all of fighting game history and a thriving esports scene to this day. i’m surprised he didn’t mention that at all

Smash Bros. Ultimate had probably the most hype I've ever seen related to a fighting game when it was announced. I don't know if anything could realistically compete with it tbh, but I'm open to be proven wrong.

The issue with Multiversus is that they tried to combine characters from TV shows and movies into a game. To be a fan, you need to have watched those TV shows and enjoy the style of the game. Smash Bros on the other hand is characters from only video games battling in another video game. Chances are if you are playing this video game, you've played other video games before, so a character you've seen before is most likely in Smash Bros. I just don't understand what audience Multiversus was trying to catch with this game tbh

Brawlhalla is still a good working game with a lot of players mostly playing it for fun but in the viral scene it's not the best because of smash bros, although because of its uniqueness and giving players the abilities to button smash and play with their friends it's still kicking

Here's a thing, for the longest time Riot had a (in my opinion bad) habit of releasing announcments about their new games, VEEEEEEEERY early into the development, Im pretty sure we've been waiting about 5+ years for both 2XKO, and MMO. So that kind of feels weird to me that they have apparently worked on 2 games (very similar ones, presumably) and decided to not let out even a peep about the platform fighter.

If you collect 5 orbs you get to use your ultimate. poppis ult sends her enemy fliping backwards. Lulus ult makes her enmeies unable to drive past ehr or get knocked up, tristan's ult sends her enemy away or sends ehr flying forward if used in the opposite way, teemos shrooms slow enemies and blinds them for a short duration, rumbles ult slows enemies, corki dashes a distance forward. games liek these opens up the world of runeterra to the players. Collab events with valorant or pro players. Imagine driving as faker. Each season takes us across runeterra and adds some new maps and champs before returning back the same season at season 12 for more new champions and maps of that same region.kart racing is the missing genre.

I feel that cancelling it is not a good idea right now because games like multiverse failed due to their own dumb problems they created, in the current time the party games are getting old and stale or just do things in a certain way that rub a lot of players of popular party games like Smash Ultimate in the wrong way, some things like locking characters, focusing on team fights, making the gameplay floaty and too gimmiky. The most popular subset of platform fighter is like Smash Brothers, what companies get wrong is why people love it so much, not just for characters which is a huge part, but just being fluid gameplay, that's it

THE sad thing is that a Platform league of legends game would have just been flat out better than X2KO... there's really no competitive Platform fighting game on the market where there's plenty of 2d fighting games saturating it. X2ko will never make a dent, it already can't even stand up.
