Sadly, as of June 2024, all of the members of the classic MC5 have passed away. I wanted to show off my 1st press copy of their debut album in their honor. instagram/tiktok/facebook: giggens_

Funny how Iggy and the Stooges are always held up as revolutionary in pre punk but the MC5 were crucial in that whole era progressing forward until it was said to be respectable and Ray Davies repeated that part and finished by saying what a drag or bummer I can’t remember. Rambling Rose was just as balls out great too. Wayne Kramer was a god on guitar. Fred “ Sonic” Smith was packing lunches and helping with homework during the 80’s Patti Smith said which is just too funny to think about. Rob was meant for that time period but I always thought after their candle burned out it was gonna hit him hard like it did with Richard Manuel of the band. MC5 were always dysfunctional never able to capitalize on any success for very long for reason after reason. Richard Manuel though was always gonna be a rudderless ship without the bond of being in The Band. Fame really makes our hero’s pay a stiff price most of the time. To think Bob Dylan, Keith Richards and Brian Wilson survived their own decent into excess or fame when so many that you would of thought would of made it didn’t makes the three I mentioned crazier when you think about it. MC5 and bands like them having to live on the road to make it today as opposed to big record advances and sales no longer a thing and I don’t know if they would of been able to make it today with so many independent artists producing and releasing their own tuff today to very little fanfare would make a lot of good bands quit today then try to make it on the road today. Sorry for the rant.
