I wait tables at a small restaurant and I went to take someone's order yesterday and they yelled at me to back up. Now if you are that worried about this, what on earth are you doing in a restaurant? The reason, I believe, is that people think that it's our responsibility to make sure they don't get sick. We take ample sanitary precaution, yes that's our responsibility, but if you are that worried about the kung flu nothing that the staff at the restaurant can do will keep you from getting exposed.

Let's be real, people just want to be able to yell at others and sternly reproach them, to satisfy their holier-than-thou hunger.

Hey, I worked for a restaurant for a few years. When I did my gains went to the bin despite lowering the volume, etc. It sucks when you have to stand and walk for 8 hours. Not to ention the stress, often poor eating and commuting in public transportation, running around in a busy city. Eventually I was able to make progress but that was rare in those times.

The info on where in the video to fast forward to was awesome! How to start back up in getting back to the gym and where to start from was great especially since the example of the squat in the mid 300s is where I was before the virus stuff. Thank you so much and if in future videos you could post where to fast forward to in the description it would be very much appreciated.

Swede here! Will not have any problem getting back to the gym because I never left! It has been and still is open as if nothing happened! No problems at all! I'm in better shape than i have been for the last couple of years! Yeah, we have been trying to do all the good things with keeping social distance etc. But gyms, restaurants, bars, shops etc have mostly been open all the time. I guess that it's partly due to the normal suspicion of being to close to another person that is "built into" the normal Swede. You won't see us kissing the cheek x amount of times. so keeping a distance to another person is normal to us anyway! You all have to ask yourselves : how long should this thing last? To the fall? A year? A couple of years? What is worst? 1000 people dying of Covid19, many of which are very ill, old (or a combo of both) where many would have died soon anyway or 10000 younger people dying of the consequences of losing your income, your family business, being alone due and cut off from the rest of the world due to a lockdown etc? Which strategy has the highest probability to work in the long run? The total lockdown or the more cautious one?

@senselessnothing
@senselessnothing 4 жыл бұрын
@Δημήτρης Μπαλφ nothing close to an average at the western life expectancy, in fact what we originally learned from the chinese was that the 60+ group was affected. The chinese hardly have people at the 80+ group to die. If they assumed an average age of death at 80, they would never have estimated more than 100k deaths.

Would something like Wendler be good for coming back to lifting? I've had good results with Wendler in the past so I know it's a good fit for me and if I started with the deload week, it would take 4 weeks to get back to relatively heavy-ish weights and the plus set at the end would allow me more room for error in estimating my current strength level, because if I undershoot or overshoot, I will just autoregulate to make up for the difference.

At 1:03:13. I intuitively knew this it being my first day back I'm broke all the way down and gradually work my way up to 225 even though before all of this went down I was reaching 280. It is very important to take your time give yourself be afforded opportunity to feel where you are then if you can do more do just a tad bit more and feel Where You Are just to set yourself up for the next time you work out this is a great podcast.🤔

Is anybody doing this? I am, by week 2, day 6 it's going well(never thought strength coud comme back so quickly) but I think it's getting really hard. I've been making 22lbs(10 kgs) jumps on the squat and deadlift but I fear tomorrow I'm going to fail at doing that. The last rep of deadlift felt knocking on the door of a limit effort....:(

I was at 285 in squats for 3 sets of 5 before COV. I did 3 sets of 5 my first day back at 195. I was pretty sore, but had no problem doing the second workout 48 hours later at 210 (I might need bigger jumps). I guess I did the same (about 65%) Rip mentions here, so I guess I didn't go too high. Back in high school, I tried to do the full routine our coach told us to do after a 6 month lay off... I literally couldn't walk for about 24-36 hours after that. So I learned my lesson haha.

I actually did go in and max out, not so much out of ego as just curious how much strength I had lost after a couple of months. Turned out I had not lost anything (Kettle bells aren’t the best but apparently they’re good enough for maintenance). I was pretty sore from the deadlifts, but nothing that out of the ordinary.

Well fuck if this didn't hit the nail on the head. My last squat workout pre-virus I completed 365 5x5. Wednesday (20th) I squat the first time, warming up from bare bar to 335 and doing 3 sets of 5 at 335. I could feel my quads beginning to cramp mid workout which is unusual for me. Today (22nd) I'm still quite sore. Fortunately I had been deadlifting. Interestingly I was only sore in my quads and abs, probably because deadlift kept everything else somewhat trained.

Good point about the idiocy of people only having an opinion if they are a so called expert on something. What if experts are taught wrong things sometimes. It's like saying a mechanical engineer pointing out plate subduction might not occur because even being generous to mainstream geology a plate would break apart due to exceeded shear stress of the rock before it could even begin moving or that the plates are comparatively buoyant to the mantle they are supposedly subducting into. Its like a geologist ignoring the info and just going lalala. Or an electrical engineer in plasma physics pointing out to an astronomer that rather than dark matter holding Galaxies together it's the plasma you can clearly see underpinning it's entire structure even more so in infrared. But the single 30 something astrophysics PhD with a long greasy ponytail can't accept that because his identity is wrapped around the tosh he's wrongfully devoted himself to rather than shaving and becoming a responsible adult. Or you can't work on a car unless you're a mechanic. Or it takes an electrician to turn on a light switch. Knowledge is knowledge and accurate info is such regardless of whose mouth it proceeds out of. If doctors want to ignore the fact that lifting heavy weight on the basic barbell exercises would solve many problems they have to deal with far more cheaply because their education has blinded them then it will always take an outsider or someone cut from the same cloth to have a different perspective. Applies to everything

So AMRAPs/EMOMs and general exercise with dumbbells, dead lifting with relatively heavy kettle bells and and so on kept me in good shape and as a mega bonus, lower body fat percent... But i surely miss TRAINING and EATING loads of food after a heavy set o FAHVE... Thanks for the guidelines about coming back to training, will implement them!

JSDaniel 451 The limit to personal freedom should be the point to where your actions negatively impact others- so moving from one place with a disease you can carry with no symptoms is prevalent then going to another place where the disease isn’t prevalent makes you a gaping arsehole and shouldn’t be allowed.
