I hear the same thing about why don't I do things that they do in other parts of the country. You know your equipment and you know your ground. You're doing a great job, keep up the good work

I agree. I’ll have to see how this goes. Hopefully I can fight compaction with cover crops only in a few years.

This one was a yard ornament for a few years. Almost got turned into a pulling tractor.

Everybody farms different. Nothing will work for everyone. Keep doing what you are doing. It works for you and that is all that counts. Love the 5088 too. What we do in New York isn't going to be same as you do. I laugh when you say you run old machinery. Looks a lot newer than what I run. This is just from one red guy to another. God bless.

Jeff I like watching KZfaq to see how other people do things around the world. And there maybe some new ideas I might try every now and then. Had some dairy people move here 9 years ago from Pennsylvania. Everyone had quit milking here years ago. They came here and built a big milking facilities. They do everything different from us. People including myself watched to see how bad they were screwing up. They didn’t and have become good friends of mine. Yes they have changed some of their practices but they know what they are doing.

I tell y’all what, doesn’t matter where you are from in the USA, why can’t people just say, Russ your doing a good job, but no some of you wanna bash and start bs, cause u have nothing better to do, Thomas farms is a great channel, we farm different in the south, if you don’t like it, “NEW YORK CITY” then scroll on ol son, much love Thomas farms from Greenhill Alabama. The 5088 is looking good out there getting it done. I have always loved the look of that series. I wish that IH could have kept going. Lifelong IH owner here myself. Spent my youth piloting a 1466, 1086 and a 1486. Thanks for the video.

The last tractor my Grandfather bought new was a 1486. I spent many hours on it. It burnt a few years ago.

Those making the negative comments are not familiar with the different ways of farming Hang in there Russ your doing the right thing. I bet you can lay down and sleep at night without worrying about the bank coming to get something.

Great video Russ. Love the ripping. I enjoy everybody’s point of view on how they farm. What works here might not work there. But little tidbits bits can be learned in every video.

Thanks Greg, the ripping is new to me. I’ve done a lot of studying on it. I’m not gonna rip every acre this year but see how things go with about 100 acres ripped.

The new drone I have only flown once and that was in the house. Yesterday it was saying it needed an update. I never ran into that with the old one.

IH had some powerhouse engines that you could get some hp from. I’m just afraid the transmission or rear end wont hold up to this day after day.

I would have thought you would have serviced the tractor before you started ripping with that tractor, yes you are very good at farming iam not the kind of guy to tell anyone how to run there farm you no that Russ!

Thanks Keith! Tractor has been serviced but has sat for a long time. Thinking maybe something in the fuel tank. I have to change fuel filters pretty often on the magnum

I don’t know if it was mentioned but I would check to make sure the satellite that the ez-guide 250 is looking for isn’t set to waas 138.

Good question Randall. It came out of the Rogator we bought last year. I had satellite with the Rogator. I did have the same situation a few years ago with the 8930 and a fm750. It was a power issue. I will check everything out when I get a chance. Thanks for the info.

@@Thomasfarmstn waas 135 is suppose to be a replacement choice for 138. Some people say 133 and 131 work but I know 135 works for eastern part of the US

Russell I think if you screw your top link out and level the ripper out it might pull it a little deeper and not disturb the top of the ground as bad.

when my grandpa was farming, he planted beans and there wasn't a market for them back then so he baled them, not sure what year it was

All parts of the country are different. I have 10 different fields in about a 5 mile radius, and they are all different. You do what works fo you and if someone is telling you your doing it wrong, they are not farmers. A true farmer would know better.

I talked to another guy today who has a Paratill. He is new to one as well. He is going to try to run a rolling basket behind his. We have also talked about running our roller behind ours.

You should name you channel, Russ's Food Channel. You mention food in every video you make. It looks like you have been losing a lot of pieces of farm equipment over the years from that pile of crap in the back of the truck. Pretty sure I know who you are referring to in New York state.

That scrap iron came from a previous owner of the farm years ago. No one particular in NY. Grumpy does things a little different but it works for him. Chris Duffy is a lot more different than me. Mike P and Andy Houarigan are Dairy farmers. All different but that don’t mean I’m gonna try to milk a black Angus.

This is a 4 shank and it’s pulling hard. I have contemplated on getting an older 4x4 tractor but it’s hard to find them with a 3 point also I can’t justify buying one just to do a few acres a year.
