This is a seriously nasty saw. Lets see this dirty dog eating oak in SLOW MOTION. We are taking a look at a brand new Stihl 661 that has been ported by ‪@TeamRipsawUSA‬ and trimming out this saw with a ‪@westcoastsaw1368‬ Bark Box and custom WCS chrome clutch cover, as well as a Max Flow kit for the air filter.

Doing a vid this weekend where I take a ripsaw 261 up against a 260 I ported myself. Gonna see who knows what the heck they’re doing around here haha. Got a pipe to put on an Echo2511T also, we’ll see how that goes. Good stuff.

I’m going to do a comparison video with that ripsaw against my 661 with the same maxflow kit and bark box. It would be good to see how much faster it actually is in the wood. My guess is at least 30%.

The Bark box isn’t too loud,I put one on my sweet 066 and it’s not much louder than stock,I bought it because it looks cool,might buy the clutch cover next right from walkers saw shop here in Nanaimo. The little WCS pipe for my 200T is definitely louder but worth it. 😊

I would leave the bark box off,as the extra noise and paint damage seems a negative,not a positive. I have a ported 395XP with all the exhaust baffles out and bigger exit hole,running a 42" skip tooth 404. It cuts well enough.

i have an ms400 and 550xp mk2 do you know of a high flow air filter that does not require the large black filter cap? also i am looking for a high flow muffler but the bark box would piss off the neighbors, i need something inbetween stock and full bark. i am sending the ms400 to dyno joe for porting. thank you for enlightening me on these parts rich

Gordy over at westcoastsaws.com has an aftermarket high flow air filter for your ms400 that does not require the big bulky cover like the max flow kit. If you want more flow out of your muffler without a bark box you will need to remove the baffle or open it up and open up the side port of the muffler. This can be done with a dremmel. Tin man’s saws has a great video on modifying mufflers. Thanks for watching Rich! Hope that info helps!

You just said that the bark box ruins the paint on the stock clutch cover. Why is the polished cover such a stretch if that’s actudlly the case.

Thanks for your comment. I think the chrome clutch cover is like $130 which is a bit much for me to pay to avoid a little bit of burned paint. Also the chrome cover does not have nuts that are married to the cover which I think is pretty crucial. Do you have the chrome cover?

If west coast saw offered the clutch cover with the captive bar nuts I’d have one tomorrow but I’m not willing to give up the captive nuts on my 500I just to have the cover! I consider that cover a down grade instead of an upgrade due to that factor alone!! Yeah it’s nice looks good has a lil better chip management but why can Gordy make that beautiful cover and not offer it with the captive bar nuts that’s just nuts to me!! Then we didn’t even get to hear the saw come on man!!

$2279.99 for the powerhead or does that include a bar? Regardless, that's $700+ for machine work and porting 🤔

That does include the bar I believe. I’ll have to ask my buddy who purchased the saw. I think part of that price too is their warranty which replaces the manufacturer warranty since it is void after you port a saw.

You bring up a good point though, that does seem steep doesn’t since I believe Dyno Joe charges in the ballpark of $350 and he is top notch.

I have the WCS five point dogs on my 661 and they are a bit flimsy for my liking. I bent the bottom dog on the first humbolt cut I did on an eastern white pine. I’ve heard good things about the 3 point dogs though. Thanks for your comment!

I have a 661 and use it mainly for milling. One thing in your video about chains. It is a skip tooth chain or a full house chain. Not a full skip. Yeah I know there is a semi skip also but you don't need it. Also a full house chain will cut faster than a skip tooth chain. Try it out and see for yourself.

Dude that's your opinion that full skip chain is stupid to run on a 20 in bar !! I run a 385 xp husqvarna with 8 pin rim and a 24 inch bar with a full skip chain and that saw rips through like hot butter !!!😊

Would have rather listen to the saw run in normal operation, then the music. More interested in its performance, then how to put a bar and chain on. I mean, if a guy is into performance 661's, I'm pretty sure they have the bar n chain stuff down already...

I’ve run the 3 point dogs in a few saws. I have 4 point dogs from WCS on my saw currently. The larger aftermarket dogs are nice but are much more prone to bending than the stock dogs.

@@SimRacingEh the longer the dog, the less force it takes to bend one. I’ve bent both the 4 point and 3 point dogs while felling. I’ve never bent a stock dog.

Those bark boxes are garbage in my humble opinion Just like you said. Kiss the paint on the side of case goodbye. SHOULDNT be that way When I do one I stick a pipe in the corner opposite the bar

Clutch cover is 6061 aluminum not chrome.

You called it chrome in video. I don't want some dumb dumb to order one because the youtube guy said it was chrome. Walking the chain on is when after you throw a chain. Place the powerhead on ground bar tip up in air. Then grab chain and while holding tension pull back and forth till it finds home on sprocket. Then push knee on center of bar to bend bar so the distance from sprocket to tip is short enough to slip chain on.

@@evergreenorganics as far as ripsaw porting saw fees that's not bad cuz if you have someone like walkers saw shop port it it's more than $750 , brand new 500i purchased from them ported with all the bells and whistles it's $2900 out the door but those saws run and last

@@larrywarner9314 the other thing too about RIPSAW is their warranty. As soon as you mod a saw the manufacturer warranty is void. They offer full warranty on their saws which I think is awesome.

Thanks for your helpful comment. I suggest you don’t buy one then. So they charge $250 for a woods port on a mail in saw. You know a lot of guys porting saws for $125 then??? Get outta here.
