Victor Wembanyama has lived up to the NBA hype and has won the Rookie of the Year award while making all-NBA first team. The San Antonio Spurs have a bright future and the 2024 NBA Draft is another chance for them to build a stronger core around Wembanyama. The Spurs own the 4th and 8th overall pick in the draft and they will have the chance to draft top prospects like Alex Sarr, Donovan Clingan, and Zaccharie Risacher. But other prospects like Rob Dillingham, Reed Sheppard, Matas Buzelis, Cody Williams, and Dalton Knecht are looking good as well. The question is, who will fit the Spurs core that’s already featuring Devin Vassell, Jeremy Sochan, and Keldon Johnson. The Spurs look like a dynasty in the making but can they build the right core around Victor Wembanyama?
Two prospects who are heavily linked to the Spurs are Uconn wing Stephon Castle and French forward Tidjane Salaun. Both look like great fits with the Spurs organization and could be complementary players next to Wemby. San Antonio could also potentially shift their focus on trading for star players like Darius Garland, Dejounte Murray, or even Trae Young to pair with Wembanyama. The Spurs were one of the worst teams in the NBA this past season but they are in the middle of a rebuild and they own a lot of draft assets as well as a ton of cap space this offseason.
But it all starts in the 2024 NBA Draft for Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs. In this video, let’s look at how Stephone Castle might be the long-term point guard that the Spurs need next to Wembanyama and why Tidjane Salaun might be the highest upside player from the draft. Wemby is already a generational star in the making but can he lead the Spurs to becoming an NBA dynasty?

100% Castle Vassell Salaun Sochan Wemby = DEFENSIVE POWERHOUSE now we need a bench! Thats what we can do with the 2025 picks Grab BAP on position who were least impressive in 24 Potentially replace the weaker links to the bench after the 2025s have a chance to work for the starting job I’d say if we don’t have a another Chip by 2027 we did it wrong Edit:?is it t BPA?

@@seanknox5785 I hope we get Castle and Williams in this year's draft. Castle Vassell Cody Williams Sochan Wemby If somehow Hawks 2025 FRP end up top three (or even no.1 overall), imagine a lineup of Castle Vassell Cody Williams Cooper Flagg Wemby. If Castle doesn't handle pg well in his first two seasons, he can easily become Josh Hart type 6th man player (his floor) and then we draft Nolan Traore, another Frenchman, to be our starting pg in 2025. Traore Vassell Williams (or another top pick in 2025 for sf/pf if either Williams or Sochan doesn't handle their position well) Sochan Wemby. And yes, we can also trade picks for star or simply sign one. All things indicate that star players are hoping to play with Wemby. A defense first starting lineup like BOS this year and then we add shooting to our bench. It's a dynasty for the next 10 - 15 years. Patience my fellow Spurs fans. Good things are coming.

People forget we were in many games until midway thru the 4Q. So a Castle-Holland pair in the 2024 draft makes us a defensive juggernaut. Then, in a deeper 2025 draft (with 3 first round picks) you bring about the necessary offense needed that makes the Spurs a title contender in the 25-26 season and beyond.

Rather than spending huge to sign Garland, who is only 24, better to have youth growing together with manageable contracts. That should be the key and the plan.

Yes. Plus Spurs lost 19 games by 6 or less... despite restraining Wemby's minutes. The Sochan experiment, Collins being the backup C, Keldon playing hero basket ball were big issues. With 2 top 8 picks, Spurs can get a good 3nD wing and a better PG (or another big guy) and aim at play in or play off if Wemby's minutes raise to 34-35. Draft 2025 will be the icing on the cake. GSG.

I think you're forgetting why we would lose in the third or fourth quarter. It's not just because of defense. There is no other go to player that can run the offense and get his own shot and help others. Trae young would be that guy. Viktor go to the bench and never lose a lead because Trae young is going to light it up.

@@ed8018 Yes but why go for one missing spot. Either Castle or Carter is a great idea, but the other guy needs to be Risacher or Salaun to fill the spot at PF and add shooting which is what both those guys will do instantly. I think Castle is at 4 unless Risacher is picked already, and then we take Salaun at 8, unless castle is available at 8 because we picked Risacher earlier. That will get us two young, promising players at needed positions and skill sets. I def agree that its not the end of the world to get Carter and Castle, both are good solid players that could be what you said. But the Spurs have Tre Jones (who played great last year), and malakai and wesley as PG options. Adding one PG makes sense, adding 2 PGs doesn't unless you already have deals set for the guys we have, which I doubt there will be real value for Wesley/Malakai/Tre. That's how I think they see it. Go for a guard and a forward. Fits all the boxes

This vid is lit. Buford and Wright would really consider getting Castle at #4 if they don't trade up their picks for #1. Saluan at #8 is as the vid suggest has the highest upside in this draft with his length, motor and effort on the defensive end. This draft does not have enough top end talent as last year but this draft has some pretty good complementary players which is what you need opposite to Wemby. I do believe though that had Topic been healthy, the Spurs would definitely think about him at #8.

This video def made me more high on Salaun. He just needs to be an average c&s theee point shooter and the rest of his game her can grow into. Much like how sochan glues the offense and defense together. If the spurs trade #4 in a trade for a PG I can see him being our lone FRP this year.

I'd like to see Yes Castle at 4 but Zack Eddy at 8, get some help for Wemby by adding another big that will absorb a lot of the physical punishment and free up Vic to adlib his game and create. Zack would also help with the bench unit.

I feel like there might be better options that wont slow down the offense to a halt and could space the floor a little better. Daron Holmes II? Yves Missi? Kel'el Ware? Its not even the spurs pick and it's a bad draft so honestly experimenting and going Edey isn't a horrible option either.

Spurs won’t draft Castle he’s not a shooter. We only have 2 shooters. Plus he’s not even a true PG. Why do people keep mocking him for the Spurs there’s tons of defenders what we need is shooter or True Point Guard. They are getting a big wing that can shoot, playmake, finish, and defend @4. Any leftover guard @8

If you just want someone that can just finish I would look to Ryan Dunn he can finish has to work on his shooting but he’s the best defender in the draft. He’s good for those 2 second round picks

Pop absolutely has a say because he’s involved in the workouts and interviews but he doesn’t scout or even care about anything like that during the season. Spurs has gained a lot of experience with foreign players over the last decade and will choose another Frenchman for it long-term project, because they don't have as much muscle as the college players. In the short term, it is sure and better with college players, they don't have to change their lifestyle and culture and they don't have to learn the language.

I don't trust stats that say per this if he had that per this many possessions it is a lot of if. I'm a UCONN fan I watched these guys play. I went to a couple games in real life. Castle is concerning... I don't think he will ever develop an elite jumpshot if there is a team that can develop it, I believe it would be the Spurs. But he is a project and at 4 is he worth that pick? He definitely is not a polished playmaker, in fact it is virtually non-existent. All he has shown is that he is an elite defender and even in this draft there are some other defenders in here that I feel could be better defenders so.... it is hard to say if he will blossom out of all these ifs. I really hope he does though but he has an old style skillset in a league that wants shooters and transition points.

Dont forget that this draft is very weak. This year, one of the Thompson would be the first pick easily. As an exemple the 2 guys from ignite have similar stats to Cissoko ( they played in the same league). So, don’t expect to have a player who would be a starter at day one.
