I have a Sony Xperia sola which will be a teenager in a few months and has been used continuously for the past 13 years, with at least 2 hours a day listening to music on the ATH-M20X, M30X, M60X, WS1100IS and WP900 (the stereo jack has been plugged in and out a thousand times). Two years ago, in the summer, I was at my cottage in the mountains, and coming home one evening, I took the shortcut where you have to jump over a river about two meters wide and about half a meter deep. Since there is no light there, I use the flashlight on my phone and before I jump I put it in my pocket, as I have done hundreds of times before, but this time the phone decided that it should fall in the middle of the river. Thanks to his flashlight being on I was able to get him out of the river almost instantly, he was under water for no more than five seconds but not only is this phone not waterproof it also has a million holes in the case, I immediately turned it off and while I walked to the house, disassembled it and disconnected the battery from the socket. I left it open on a fan heater for 2-3 hours, put it back together and the phone has been working flawlessly ever since. Keep in mind that at the time of the incident, this is an 8-year-old mid-range phone, which, on top of that, is not even on standby, but is fully active.

Because you know what I want when I'm listening to music? A notoriously-unreliable wireless signal that cuts-out periodically and starts blasting my music through the phone speaker instead. @@vibetribe52I do waaaaaay more on my phone than make phone calls. Especially as a graphic designer. I appreciate the big screen. My hands are big as hell. That’s actually the sole reason I changed because I couldn’t type well on a the keyboards. I appreciate the fast pace software. I appreciate I can send more than a text. I definitely appreciate I don’t have to use zoom or other video software to talk with my friends. And as a graphic designer, if I don’t have my computer by my side, I can easily get my graphics and send them where they need to go. As a photographer, I appreciate the fact that the camera on phones today can serve as temporary replacements in case I can’t get my hands on an actual camera. I appreciate the big amount of storage you get on phones today because for people like me, that’s exactly what I need. And also as someone who loves music, having my music right on my phone at my disposal instead of having to grab a portable CD like I did when I was growing up is epic. I come from the era of flip phones and portable dvd and CD players and although I miss some of those gadgets, I understand fully why they are replaced. Yall are legit showing yalls age. And I’m a person that typically likes to keep things traditional. But my phone and gadgets are not one of those things. If phones were like they were in the 2000s while everything else has advanced, I would be highly dissatisfied.

The issue with these "low cost" devices that still have the headphone jack is the fact that people want the headphone jack AND high performance Same with battery capacity You can get a phone with cutting edge performance, but the battery capacity will be subpar, but if you want decent battery capacity, you can get a 13,000mah phone, however you will be getting performance from 5 years ago We need a device that is designed as a tool, not as a fashion accessory
@somethingelse4424
@somethingelse4424 2 жыл бұрын
If we were talking about phones being a tool, not an accessory... They could also make the devices reasonably durable right out of the box. Instead of making them out of glass on both sides that extends all the way out to the soft aluminum corners, they could recess the screen slightly into a more durable chassis. That way it would have to fall directly on it's face onto an object protruding from the ground in order to break. We should expect a handheld device to be dropped frequently, and probably get wet occasionally.
@mwbgaming28
@mwbgaming28 2 жыл бұрын
@@somethingelse4424 the closest I have found to a phone designed as a tool, is the Ulefone power armor 13, I actually bought one specifically for the utility features, durability, and battery capacity it's waterproof up to 1.5M, drop rated to 1.2m onto concrete, has a ring around the screen and rubber on the corners for drop protection, has a massive battery, has most of the bells and whistles that exist in modern flagships, it even has a laser rangefinder, expandable storage, a reprogrammable button, 48MP camera with 4K video recording, a headphone jack, and reverse wireless charging But like all these devices, it is cursed with subpar specs in the form of a MediaTek G95 (which is serviceable for games, but is definitely not going to keep up with even last year's flagships) lack of an AMOLED display, and it's hard to get it repaired when it does break since spare parts are not readily available outside Asia If it had an AMOLED display, a Snapdragon 888 or dimensity 1200, and was popular enough that parts are available in the west, it would be pretty much perfect

the technology used for these wireless headphones are similar to infrared or antennas, distributing low frequency from right to left ear, basically slowly cooking your brain in-between. no worries though, they have not studied the long term effect and no body has complained any damage in-cases where that small battery explodes in the ears... ..and good thing that you said "apple popularize mp3" because i was enjoying my mp3 player way back 1998 when I was in asia.

While Apple, Samsung and Google has removed the headphone jack and sd card slot (Samsung), Sony brought back the headphone jack after seeing what everybody else is doing and still have the sd card slot. After the Xperia 1 MK 1, they brought back the headphone jack on the MK II models and moving forward. I've owned both the Xperia XZ 2, XZ 3 and while they are good phones, I hated the dongle. It wasn't untill very recently that I gave up my old phone and found a portable headphone amp that handles a very new less compressed lossless Bluetooth. As an audiophile, a normal Bluetooth headphone receiver does not cut it, it needs it's own built in headamp, PCM/FLAC file handling ability and it's own generous sized battery. The only problem I had with my old phone was it did not have enough power to properly drive my 16 ohm cans

Since my old phone didn't have a headphone jack I used a dongle that allowed me to use the USB-C port on my phone with an aux cable. The problem is that when I used it on long road trips, I couldn't charge my phone while listening to Google maps and music. If the road was really bumpy, the volume would fluctuate a lot too because vibrations would affect the cable contacts. I honestly probably wouldn't have had those issues with a different phone or a different cable but it really soured my opinion on getting rid of the port. Bluetooth is another option but I'd have to upgrade the audio system in every vehicle I own, which is not worth the money either.
