Rise of the Ronin reviewed by Will Borger on PlayStation 5.
Rise of the Ronin marries a cool historical setting, Team Ninja’s mastery of tough-but-fair combat, and some smart RPG design to make a game that is immediately compelling, and even more fun with friends. It’s full of cool little touches, whether it’s throwing something at an enemy with the grappling rope or dropping from your glider onto your horse. Unfortunately, it’s also a game full of map clutter, bloated systems, and a truly absurd amount of junk loot, and the time I spent clearing out everything that didn’t spark joy and dealing with all these non-essential systems made me pine for a leaner, meaner, more focused game. Rise of the Ronin is excellent when it has the courage to be itself and lean into its challenging, rewarding fighting; too often, however, it feels stuck in indecision, torn between what it wants to be and what it feels it’s expected to be, and not even the best samurai can overcome that.

@@luckythakur1832Starfield got 6/10 scores and even some 5/10, and it took 15+ years to make. It’s also a 1st party game for Microsoft. Rise of the Ronin is made by Team Ninja, Sony doesn’t own them. Either way you spin it, Starfield became a meme for how bad it was after Microsoft was hyping it like the next big thing. It failed just like Redfall, which got 4/10 scores.

Remember the Auto Sell & Auto Dismantle options to get rid of loot below a certain rarity, it then just becomes a simple currency generator

This is the real answer; Same thing with strangers of paradise, you just set a simple cutoff, and the game takes care of the loot problem for you.

Developers need to learn that not every game needs to be an open world / Ubisoft style game; they can probably save a lot of budget that way and make the main story more compelling.

The flooding of game maps with reused assets is a way to earn gaming time on the title in a cheap and quickly done way though.

People have been complaining about the gear system in TN games since Nioh 1, so over the years TN have added a robust list of QoL changes in the option menus. Everything from advanced filtering and sorting, mass disassemble/sell and auto loot pick up filters are added to the game. So for anyone who’s familiar with modern team ninja games, the loot overload is a non-issue.

This isn’t an issue at all. I’ve been playing the game a lot and don’t have any loot issues. If anything is great. All excess goes to some storage and auto fills when you rest. Excess gear can just be quick selected and sold/turned into materials.

Besides, the fact that Rise of Ronin is an open world and historical rendition of Nioh with a touch of Assassin's Creed doesn't detract from its identity. There's plenty of distinguishing factors based on the gameplay and plot.

my humble opinion, check its rating within actual gaming protasl based on players who bought it (i.e now on PS5 you can see players who bought any game rating it, this will be a much more real type / accurate feedback and rating rather than depending on one guys opinion at IGN.

They could have set up the reveal for the glider much better than they did. They put no effort into how they gave us this fun tool it should have been tied to a cool character that we had to defeat in order to get it. Or just locked it behind the camera mission when Igashichi asked us to jump!

i've played Nioh 1, Nioh 2, and Wo Long and i've never had a problem with the loot. you can just like not pick up the loot or just sell the very weak loot.

If anyone is in doubt because of the lackluster reviews...just buy it already. Yes the game is flawed. The flaws can be fixed in future updates. I'm several hours in and I'm enjoying the game.

Looks sick. Disappointed with the exhausting map design and generic side content, but team ninja combat paired with more traditional RPG mechanics is an easy sell for me. Doesn’t have to be game of the year material

Honestly im not a fan of the graphics something about it looks off or not up to ps5 ghost of tsushima standards but ghost of tsushima left me itchin for more samurai gameplay so ill try this game out,im just not in a hurry to buy it
