Abandoned & Forgotten Places
Documenting abandoned mines like never before!
Let's take abandoned mine exploring to the next level!
With your support you can help make this the best abandoned mine exploring channel on KZfaq!
Shot entirely in 4K! ...so, turn up those video settings!
On this channel we go deep... REALLY DEEP into abandoned mines and tunnels all throughout the western United States. We researched some of the harder to find mines and hiked or 4x4 back into them to explore and reveal their hidden secrets. Many of these remote locations are filled with cool artifacts, antiques and unique geology that will have you guessing as to why the old prospectors worked so hard to find gold, silver, and other minerals.
A&FP moves just a bit slower as compared to other mine exploring channels. Gly discusses why the miners chose these sites and he points out the geology and minerals that got them excited. Veins of quartz filled with gold and silver made many men lose sleep in the 1800’s and early 1900’s and modern prospecting still does to this very day.
DANGERS? Oh yes, there’s allot of dangers associated with old mines. Un-exploded dynamite, blasting caps, bad air, bats, spiders, and snakes all find their home in abandoned mine shafts and tunnels. Oh, and let’s not forget rotting timbers, flooded passages and collapsing rock!
Gly takes abandoned mine exploring seriously with all the proper safety equipment, training, and experience necessary to do this activity as safe as possible but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a bit of fun along the way. “Gly”, your host and his band of crazy characters “Old Bob” (Gly’s Jeep), “Quackers” (Gly’s duck) and “Bobbie” (Gly’s hula girl) are sure to brighten your day with their comments and silly antics. Heck, they may even give you a chuckle or two.
Just like Saturday morning cartoons before the internet was invented, Abandoned and Forgotten Places uploads each Saturday at 7:00AM PST. (that’s 10:00AM for you eastern folks) so don’t forget to click that subscribe button and bell icon to receive notifications of new episodes!
Please LIKE, SHARE, SUBSCRIBE and COMMENT! All these things help grow our channel and your financial support helps us find new locations and helps put fuel into “Old Bobs” tank. Old Bob, thanks you!
Ok, now for the ugly stuff...

Eagles build their nests in the tops of big dead trees (they love white pines, here in northern Michigan )and can weigh up to several hundred pounds! They come back to the same nest each year, and add more sticks and reinforce them each season. I live next to a wildlife refuge on the ‘Mississippi Flyway’, and am privileged to see many various types of birds and waterfowl return each year, on their pilgrimage to their summer living areas.😊

Super cool newspaper! 20-50 dollar men suits, back when 20 dollars was around an ounce of gold. That's 2-5k dollars today, which is about what you would pay for a custom taylored suit. Things aren't getting more expensive, it's what we pay with that is going down in value 😂

In addition, you no longer seem to have any fear of these insanely dangerous areas.I hope and pray that you let others know where you are and when you are supposed to get back home when you are out there in the back country so others can hopefully find you? 15:25 that looks like a tidy vertical wall they set up to hold back a waste pile at the end of the passage rather than a collapse. Vertical boards are neatly trimmed instead of raggedly broken. Stulls are blocking the passage and placed low to support the wall, indicating that traffic didn't continue though there.

I have a tip for you. Pick a hand, left or right, doesn't matter. When you enter a mine with several tunnels in different directions, always have whatever hand you picked on a wall. Example.. if you always turn right. Eventually you will end up back at the entrance having been down every tunnel. This does not take into account up and down though.

The "Justrite Felt Packing" box at 6:25 is for spare felt discs for the Justrite brand carbide light that the miners wore on their helmet. The felt discs are held in place by a brass clip at the top of the acetylene chamber. When water from the upper chamber dripped into the lower carbide chamber, it would create acetylene gas that would seep through the felt filter to the nozzle for the flame.

@@AbandonedandForgottenPlaces You’re a very sneaky dude Gly. Lol Great! Now I need to find another way to quell my anxiety. 😝 Since you replied, I know all is good today. And I guess you’ll have to say hi again next week too! You keep making good decisions Mister! This mine was amazing. Can’t wait for more of it next Saturday. Be safe in/out there. 🙏

Thank you very much for this very interesting and informative video presentation which is very much appreciated. It was great to see that newspaper, its date giving historical context to the mine. Full marks to the miner who left it there in the first place. It is certainly a great Saturday evening viewing.

Another great video Gly. Do be safe. Some of those loose places don't need to be explored.

What a great explore , the dating of everything , the cleanliness of that mine was astonishing and the safety of it all , i would not be afraid to work in that mine at all , day and night it was obvious someone cared about doing things right in the crosstimbering of that mine

Great video, sir. It's good how you recognize potential danger and that "peril.." warning at the start makes sense. That newspaper belongs to a musuem..

Crazy dangerous mine conditions in some areas. Great video showing all those logs in severe compression. Very high quality videography - feels like I'm beside you. Way cool. Thanks Gly.

Missed this Sat. episode while I was moving and down sizeing. It sure was a "thriller" and I'm glad that "Will Robertson" got out of that last backfilled stope in one piece. Its super interesting what your exploring shows us, but to some degree makes us tense. Just walking the hills of that mining area is sure challenging, but you seem to have enough stamina to go further and then "look inside". We like to "look inside" with you. Thank you for creating such a cinenamatography format to watch your "show" every week. (ya, I know SP) I enjoyed it as we all did.
