my mother has played bassoon professionally for over 30 years and jesus, the amount of times i've heard this exact bit is stained into my brain from her practicing. still love it

I've only been aware of Rite of Spring for a week. I've researched it, watched a couple versions and listened to it at work... it's just so captivatingly good!

people underestimate how HIGH that note is. I've been learning to play bassoon for 3 years and I've master most of my notes BUT this note hurts everytime I play it, it leaves me dizzy for a few minutes

Berlin freakin' rocks. How can it ever be better? Stravinsky looks down and is proud...

This is the greatest opening to any piece I’ve ever heard. Stravinsky was definitely on a different level. I’ve heard that when the Rite debuted, most people didn’t recognize what instrument it started with bc they weren’t used to the bassoon’s high range. So from the start there was something mysterious about it. Above all, this piece feels beyond music. All of the unusual voicings don’t sound traditional at all and they’re hard to pinpoint. Though the bassoon plays a very tonal phrase, the parts under it make it feel alien and sinister. It’s actually a really frightening opener and it makes sense why the piece was so controversial. Stravinsky was making something that didn’t feel like music and couldn’t be easily grasped.

Mozart would have delighted in dropping a fart at just the right spot, the cheeky li'l joker 😆 Stravinsky is glorious, and Rite of Spring is exquisite...
