PLEASE READ : My new documentary - continuing my original 4 part series RIVER PHOENIX WAS HERE released in 2013. This documentary was created to commemorate River's 50th Birthday. Beginning with River's musical endeavours; which feature prominently in the film; there is a recap of certain movies of River's career, with co-stars and colleagues remembering working with him, through to his passing which then extends to the later chapters of his legacy over the years.
I have kept footage from his films to a minimum to avoid the inevitable copyright potential problems but that footage features in the previous 4 part entries in the series.
It has been a beautiful project to produce. It was near 3 months in the making; with 18 hour days, 7 days a week and was a true labour of love. On a personal note, I have struggled with depression my whole life; I have bipolar disorder and post traumatic stress disorder and my life has been a long road and I include this mention of it, because ALL OF YOU who supported the films has made such a difference in my life and provided me such uplifting and inspirational support. You've made a great difference in my life for caring about my work and being so kind with your comments and I feel, friendship. Love and grateful respect and Thanks to every single one of you. Regards, Jason Stuart Kamasz - The Original Soundtrack for the film is available now for FREE DOWNLOAD @ jsksounds.band...

River was the 2nd James Dean and all Hollywood actors followed his way in everything clothes the hair. And they may have been jelous of river too. What happened to him shouldn't have happened interview with the vampire was in memory for river end credits he was supposed to play Christian slaters role he was a rising 🌟 at the time what could've been if he was here today.his Hollywood fame would have made him iconic as Brando and Dean.

They are all three great actors. I don’t agree that they would’ve been in his shadow. Leo’s done great things, again to me enjoy them all. It’s just terrible that he’s gone, and we didn’t get to see more, but most importantly A life lost

Wow this is truly a brilliant documentation of River Phoenix, and the many, many lives he touched in his 23 years of life on this planet we call earth. I was interested to know is it possible to launch this at an Independent Film Festival of sorts. Or a release on VOD etc. As you mentioned in the description a true and beautiful labor of Love no doubt. On behalf of all those who watch this, I say Thankyou very, very much. Peace and love always, From Tom in Sydney NSW Australia, Thankyou Jason.

Great Actor, musician and activist was River, always loved his pure gentle spirit and love for life, ppl and Animals and the planet, a very sensitive young man who hated the fame and rigours of Hollywood life, sadly damaged and sucked into things that led to his unexpected Death which was not his fault. I miss him greatly as was a big fan growing up. Good to see no insulting horrible comments here from a Women who frequents lots of his posts and pulls him down with a disrespectful hatred and insensitive remarks, she needs to stop insulting him and blaming him for her actions. River will always be an inspiration to me, one of a kind he was as an actor and Human being. Greatly and sadly much missed.

Well done! I needed to clear my tear-ducts out! Back in '93, I remember so clearly. Halloween night. All the weird smells and people all dressed up and partying. That's what you do right? River, you think..'oh no he's way too smart and young to just drop dead' He was too trusting. Saw love in everyone. Not some paranoid experienced druggie. River never gave it a thought that he (could)

I wish I could have attributed to this documentary so much so! I was 11 when I discovered Stand by me, I watched in 3 times a day for the longest of times, I had a crush on River. I remember during this time my mom made a comment that "it's a sin he died". It didn't resonate with me till once I saw him in the Stand by Me music video....it was like seeing an angel for the first time. When I was 12 I got a computer, and I dove into reading about River, I would sob for hours, and uncontrollable sob, like I had lost a sibling, friend, or even a lover. I identified with so much of what he had going on in his life, and to this day I will sob still. I introduced River to many people who didn't know his name. I'm the girl people know as the "River girl". I have a framed poster next to my bedside, I have a tattoo in honor of him, and I think he saved me the first/last time I overdosed. Something told my mother to come check in on me, and when I woke up, I saw that poster, I saw his eyes. I'm about to be 30 years old this month, I'm 3 years clean, and I still love and carry River me everyday. He changed my life, and I won't ever try to explain how or why. I was a lonely child into early adulthood. He saved me. He is my guardian, he's many peoples guardian. He lives on in the hearts on many and inspires us. He was a true earth angel.

I moved to Seattle in 1990 when I was 24. The Phoenix family lived in Tacoma then. My girlfriend had just moved back from Hollywood and somehow had a connection to them. I think she was Rain's friend. She used to come home and tell me she had dinner at their house that afternoon. I always asked if River was there. She saw him a lot. I used to see him at shows downtown. He was into all that Seattle music scene like we all were. One time at a Melvins show he was sitting on the small stage while we were all moshing. He got up and got in the pit with us. He and I were leaning on each other and he fell to the floor and I fell on top of him. We were face to face on the floor, LOL. Someone picked me up and then we picked him up. That's my River Phoenix story :)

JST - You're a true artist. Thank you for all the work you've done in helping to keep River's memory alive; it's such beautiful, beautiful work. His light will never be forgotten. Here, and somewhere else, it still shines on. "Have you also learned that secret from the river; there there is no such thing as time?" That the river is everywhere at the same time, at the source and at the mouth, at the waterfall, at the ferry, at the current, in the ocean and in the mountains, everywhere and that the present only exists for it, not the shadow of the past nor the shadow of the future." - Herman Hesse, Siddharta

It's been 30 years since this brilliant, sensitive being died but they didn't reveal the truth about what happened that tragic night. Many of you may know that River refused the leading role in the film "The Crow" which we all know the plot but very few know that through this film, there was a plot against him: as a matter of fact the story of Eric Draven was sewn around the character of River Phoenix, but no one noticed since the part was played by Brandon Lee, who agreed to take River's role. River refused the part because he knew the intentions of those who had interest in hurting him and he was well aware that some "strange accident" could happen to him if he accepted that role. In fact, in the film they would have staged his death: the strange accident, however, did happen to his replacement, Brandon. No need to remember the episode that cost Lee's life on the set of the same movie, apparently he too was a target, but that's another story... Brandon's death also caused great dismay and sorrow. In "The Crow", Eric Draven (River), is a band leader, singer and guitar player who is murdered on Halloween night (in the film called devil's night). Both Eric Draven and River die on a sidewalk although in different ways. Brandon Lee and River Phoenix both died in 1993, both on day 31st (Brandon on March 31st). The crow as bird was used as symbol of death, antagonistic to the Phoenix, which symbolizes rebirth. In fact, the scene of the crow drawn with fire was emblematic. With all these "coincidences", it is very difficult to believe that River Phoenix death was his own fault and on Halloween, in fact several witnesses declared that they saw John Frusciante handing River a glass and as River ingested the drink he said: "what the hell is this?" The local police said that they had received several reports from witnesses who claimed that Frusciante had poisoned River but these testimonies were never disclosed in the main sources of informations. Frusciante was probably asked to pass River the glass but the question is: Who was the one preparing the mixture, asking Frusciante to give it to River? That person should've been held responsible and served prison time, instead after 30 years we're still here listening to most of the sources saying that River wanted to take the drugs, being the only one responsible for his own death. The well-known director/actor William Richert who also worked with River in "my own private Idaho" has declared (the video can be found on KZfaq) that River was killed by a guitar player. William, who has known River for 7 years, firmly stated that River did not use drugs other than smoking a little weed every now and then. After River's death, Leonardo DiCaprio took his place in the film roles that River had signed up for. James Cameron himself said that he carefully created the role of Jack Dawson for no one but River years before the Titanic was made. DiCaprio become good, but nobody could even come close to River's talent, everyone would fade beside him. Eyewitnesses declared without any doubt that DiCaprio was present at the viper room that night. I wish they would disclose the true story of what happened to River but I don't think they ever will because the hidden power that pulls the strings behind the film industry and the mainstream media want people to think of him as a drug addict and not as a multi-talented activist, who inspired the consciences and hearts of his fans with his altruism towards the planet, animals and human beings, fighting for everyone's rights and donating various funds to many causes. It is astounding and inspiring if you think that when he was just a kid, in the midst of financial difficulties, he played his guitar on the streets to make some money so he could help his family.. and he was still very young when he donated funds to humanitarian causes. Money meant nothing to him, he walked around in modest clothing and rubber shoes like converse, he refused to wear leather because he was against the killing of any animal. Among other things, he had purchased several acres in Costa Rica to preserve the planet from deforestation. To this day, I don't know another celebrity who had such kindness and sensitivity as River Phoenix, especially at such young age. Similar virtues do not belong to people with the mental problems the media said he had, usually people who suffer from those disorders are empty. The system didn't want the world to be inspired by River's good actions hence they put a label on him so there wouldn't be any glory for him. But they were wrong: people all over the world love River very much and they're still fondly inspired by his actions and sensitivity even many years after his death. John Lennon was also an anti-system activist very committed to boycotting the war. Do you think John was really shot by one of his fans? 🤨 C'mon now.. When they decide to eliminate a celebrity, you can be sure that there will be accidental overdoses, findings in bathtubs or even fatal injuries caused by unlikely killers... A vegan boy like River, who dies like that, it already raises doubts... he may have had a childhood filled up with challenges, but he always had a deep bond and harmony with his family like he said himself in many interviews. I hope never to see again the image of a beautiful soul like River, stained and torn to pieces by false news passed as official. If people keep watching the documentaries produced by the same TV lobbies that covered up the evidences, they will never discover the real facts. Fight for the truth, ask yourself questions, inquire and put together as many clues as possible, You'll be able to unravel the truth. Make the choices of these pioneers count! Remember their courage and pure heart. Only like this we can give the right value to the memory that River left of himself. Thanks to those who will read

Thanks for this! ❤️ Made me think that I still don’t get it why all around him avoid the most important issue - why he numb himself with drugs and alcohol?! How come no one sent him to rehab or took control of his suffering and tried to help him? Family and friends help. I understand people that are completely alone and unsupported, but he was surrounded by caring people. Or so it looked. Why no one is talking now of the things he tried to numb inside him, the suffering that led to his early passing. Take little responsibility that they did not help. Draw attention to the people you love in your life and help them. Therapy, rehab, whatever. Love means caring, supporting, helping. Talk is cheap. Saving someones life is the most important thing. That should have been the priority. His family say they talk about everything, very open, nothing was a taboo yet we saw how long Riv suffered. Sad. Years before his heroin problem he had alcohol problem. Addiction in the family should not be tolerated. They should start talking not only to keep his memory of great movies and music, but to reflect on their passive attitude toward his suffering. In this case talking of ‘could have’, ‘should have’ will help other families dealing with son/daughter addiction. His family talked about people being blind to the suffering of animals and environment in crisis yet they are blind to person numbing himself for years. Taking drugs is like suicide. Trying to escape, numb, not exist, forget. Sadly all around him liked him, not loved him. Love is tough and not always what you want, but is exactly what you need! He needed to be helped, saved, listened and cared for. Rip Riv! 💔

I always wondered where he would be right now if he was still alive, if he would just be another face in the crowd of actors or if he would have done something big with his life. It's weird how one thing that can happen to one person can steer reality different for everybody else like would Johnny Depp be where he was or would DiCaprio be where he was or would flea be what he was and would have Leaf been the Joker still or would there have been different changes in their life if River was still alive it's weird to think about it.

Although I don’t know as much about River as you guys does, but i saw Stand by me and it just stuck there in my mind and then, i started to find out more about this young actor, i m someone from India, i grew up in totally different environment but when i saw Stand by me, i instantly felt a connection and River clearly stood out in the movie. It almost felt like loss was mine when i found out he died so young. I just pray to God that should not happen to any anyone ( drugs took his life). He touched me in every way. We can keep his legacy alive by not letting this to happen to anybody around us and extending our hand to those in need and not abandoning them. I just can’t put this in words that how he affected me but i know he will remain alive in my thoughts always. God bless his family.

JasonStuart Kamasz I don’t know if it’s because I grew up watching his films but I remember seeing Stand By Me for the first time when I was 7 and I felt really connected to the character of Chris Chambers, and the delivery of that performance was astounding. I continued to enjoy every film he’s made and always thought wow this guy is something else. I remember the day he passed. I was a sophomore in high school and was out with my friends and I found out the next morning. I’ve never felt such a tremendous loss about someone who I’ve never known. River was an amazing actor but more so he was an amazing and special human being. This world is sure in need of more like him! Thank you for the way you’ve captured his spirit on these documentaries. I’m 110% sure so many appreciate this content!

I don’t know about anybody else but when River sings “And what did you slip in my drink? A nip of absinthe. To get so far, can’t recover and you gotta think it over.” Is so haunting. It’s like a knowing without knowing. It’s like Prince saying “And if the elevator brings you down. Oh no, let’s go.” Prince then dies in the elevator. Creepy!

There was one major question I had after his murder back in 1993 + it's the same question I still have today. That question had to due with the toxicology at the time of autopsy which showed 8 times the lethal limit of heroine + 5 times the lethal level of cocaine that were in his system. That is "no accidental OD" but is a clear indication of "premeditated 1st degree murder"!!! Why wasn't there a homicide investigation + anyone arrested + charged with this murder. I seem to remember his mother not wanting an investigation but I would think that the laws of the state would prevail regardless because murder is murder + what reason would a mother have for not wanting the murderer(s) of her son to be found + held responsible. But amazingly it seems that no investigation was done that I heard of. It's the same with Prince - the judge sealed the files, for some reason, + his murder seems to be treated like it never happened. Look at the attention + major police investigation into the disappearance + subsequent murder of Gabby Petito + later her fiance Brian Landry. I'm glad their disappearances + murders were handled pbroperly. What I do not understand is how famous actors + musicians can be murdered + no investigation is ever started or completed. It's as if these people never existed - EVERYONE who is murdered should , by law, have their murder's investigated until their killer(s) are prosecuted.

I'm really glad you brought that up because it's a question that I have given up asking because it tends to be answered with uncomfortable silences. Bigger artists like Prince, MJ, Chris Corrigan I believe are all Illuminati related so aren't going to be investigated. But with River it was obvious that J.D was the one behind the whole thing + it had to do with River's upcoming movie with W.R. So sad how one person can deprive another of a beautiful life due to their petty jealousy.

River was the 2nd James Dean of his time for all of us who remember river. Interview with vampire was in memory of river. Hollywood actors wud have been jelous of river. They all started to dress like him and the hair styles they were copying river. His fame if he was here today wud be iconic as Brando and James Dean.

The first music performance brought back memories of Lloyd Cole and the Commotions kinda vibe. Which is a compliment, River seemed like a guy who enjoyed his literature which would obviously make its way into his work. Really enjoying this piece of work so far man. 👌
