You must understand that River and the Doctor have their own separate non-linear timelines. Say 11 has tea with River on Sunday, while years later 13 decides he'll double back and take River dancing on that Monday night. River then bumps into 10 on Asgard on Tuesday. . . see where I'm leading? After Sunday's tea, 11 may meet up with River on that following Friday. 11 will only remember his experiences on Sunday and Tuesday, but River will have spent the whole week with various Doctors.

Love River Song in Doctor Who. She is so hot and perfect as the Doctors wife. Also love her as a actress in general. Hope she plays a major part in the series when the 12th Doctor assumes the helm. Would really like to see more of her!

So disappointed that she only got to play River only in the Christmas special during the 12th Doctor's run. :( I we would love have to see more of River and the 12th Doctor. The 12th Doctor is so cross, sarcastic, and blunt and I would have loved to so him interact with River in a few episodes. It would have been hilarious, just like the Christmas special.

i did get the impression from a couple of interviews that moffat had actually told alex, and the others said she would never tell anyone, and they would ask and ask and ask, but she would never give anything away about the secret of river song.

To be fair, she could always go through old newspapers and stuff and find his faces - she doesn't necessarily have to know the order the regenerations go in. She has no idea how far back in his timeline he knows her, so she should keep every face she can find, just in case.

@thefartydoctor She's actually quite motherly toward Amy. Maybe that's the only clue Moffat wanted to give. I don't know how River would be able to show a child's affection toward her mother, when her mother was over half her age. Mothering your mother may seem odd, but this is really more of a relationship between strangers. . . that said, there's a scene that was shot for Series 6 ep13 that takes place just after Byzantium. River & Amy have a reunion then.

But baby River never met the Doctor. It was a ganger all the time. It's when she's a little girl, inside the Astronaut, I guess that's their first meeting, though there isn't any interaction between them. Anyway, there ARE a few holes in River's story.

@trangt Regeneration isn't a death, it's just a change of face. It has no impact on the timeline. Nothing is wiped out. Every moment in time exists at once. 10 & Martha watched the moon landing in 1969, and 11 & Amy also watched the moon landing in 1969. At the exact same moment. Future, past and present can exist simultaneously in Doctor Who's concept of time travel. We've even had adventures with 5 different regenerations. . .

'' I highly doubt River ever knew her parents growing up'' hahaha We all now know she did - attended schools and became best friends with them when she was Melody :D And in the Byzantium episodes it shows her dissapearing... episodes later revealing her going to Amy and Rory after the Byzantium encounter.

You miss the point. What I am saying is that at the time the Doctor is scared about his new regeration because he is unsure about what he will become. All that really stays the same is his memories.

The Doctor she saw before 10 was 12 at the Singing Towers (end of The Husbands of River Song I think), so she could have thought that Tennant was after Capaldi and was a new face to add to the list. Byzantium and Picnic (this one is in a novel) were both during 11th Doctor thats why she asked about them to try and figure it out.

@@gemmapritchard4696 River saw 10 again and spend time with him in The day of the doctor novelization,this was the second time the Doctor met her . So from her point of view,since she dies in the library, this was the second time she met with 10 it wasn't a new face for her . She knew who he was she just realise that for him they haven't met yet ,plus she knew that when the day comes that the Doctor could not recognise her is the day she is going to die, that doesn't mean it's gonna happen when she also sees a face of him for the first time . The only thing that is confusing is why after 10 met her his next regenarations could remember her while his previous couldn't. In the diary of River audio series she spents a lot of time with the previous regenerations . River wasn't meant to appear for more than 3 times in the show but then Moffat changed his mind and I think this is why Rivers timeline has some holes , when they made the episode in the library they weren't planning her story to be like this

Its a death in the sense that he won't continue to have adventures in that timeline. As in, he feels like he is dying because he becomes a new man. But that doesnt mean that all doctors in his time stream are wiped fromexistence or anything.

I have two theories that i know sound stupid but. 1: I think that she is part of the tardis because she knows everything about the doctor, his name his faces and his adventures. Also in the last episode of series 5 the tardis saves her and she is in a loop saying "I'm Sorry My Love" also when the doctor and the tardis dissapear all the writing in the book dissapears as well but then reappears 2: she is the doctors other heart and when she died in silence in the library thats when his other -

10 and Martha watched the moon landing in a completely differently universe than 11 and Amy. Because 11 and Amy watched it in the post-Pandorica rebuilt universe, which rebuilds all of existence, at all points in time.

No, the fifth doctor saw regeneration as death for him as well. I'd say the Doctor's opinion on regeneration changes like everything else about himself when he regenerates. Its not new, we just remember it because we love David Tennant

Silver Phoenix but she's got a "spotters guide" of all the doctor's faces, which is how she knows it's "early days" for him, so she must know he's the 10th regeneration :/

They met a lot between the episodes as well, so it's not entirely impossible that they had their Asgardian picnic after Silence in the Library while he was still in his 10th incarnation.

No, there was a story where she said she met the 1st Doctor, but she wiped his memory. She met all of the Doctors, but wiped there memory. That's been stated in one of the written stories that they did.

I never saw it before, but Amy flirts with the Doctor much like the way River flirts with him. It's almost as if they made the characters related before they even knew they were related.

@thefartydoctor I think it was quite deliberate on Moffat's part. River lies about not knowing Rory in "The Pandorica Opens". She's a real keeper of secrets. I *highly* doubt River ever knew her parents growing up. She probably doesn't have a strong connection to them, so being in a situation where they've no idea who she is, isn't altogether distressing. I think only the Doctor has ever truly been there for her.

It is just that I am suprise that many Doctors can exist at the same time. I understand the time-travel thing, but I just that once a Doctor die, he is wiped out of the whole time-continuum. But then again, like you said, River could meet future-Doctors, so there is no stopping her from seing past-Doctors. I get it, but I also just don't get it. It is such a paradox in my head, thats all.

River Song was referring to future regenerations of the Doctor, not past. Ten is the youngest Doctor she's met, so when she talks all the Doctor's different faces (never showing up in the right order!), she is in fact referring to 10, 11, 12, 13. . . etc.

sooo obviously at this point the doctor doesnt know who river is yet but he has already seen her death and he knows that she is intimatley connected with him (given the fact she knows his name). to me though, it doesnt seem like he remembers that. :/ or if he does maybe he's just trying to hide it because of spoilers? .. man could you imagine knowing how and when the person in front of you is going to die? that would tear me apart, it would. my heart definately goes out to the doctor and river!

In that last episode, we were all like "Why the hell was River trying to shoot the Astronaut version of herself and then at the end, she made us all certain in what we were thinking, which was Rule 1. She's a liar and good actress. And I suppose it's not as though she never met her parents. :D

so the TARDIS does have breaks XD only that those breaks stabilaze it thus prevent the noise and since the doctor and many other timelords tend to manually fly their TARDISes they dont use the breaks and that explain the noise when it land.. maybe it also effect the takeoff noise?

Question: When she is asking him about the Crash of the Byzantium (sp?), and the picnic at Asgard, the Doctor has a different face, and she knows that. So why would she be asking, the previous Doctor, whom she knows is not HER Doctor?
