I never really liek Doctor Who pairings, but The doctor and River, that I can get behind. They have just the right amount of drama and romance and being doomed to be perfect.

His creations of River Song and this whole story line was absolutely Brilliant !! To have it all in his head , and watch it unfold was the Best of Dr. Who in my opinion.

haters are always the loudest. i have just recently come into the world of dr who, and am obsessed (watched all 6 series in a very short time), and i LOVED rose, and thought i would hate any woman who came after hahaha, but truth is, river song has actually become my favorite character in all the series.

I don't know if people like her or not, but I really like River. Besides the time thing of the way they meet and stuff like that, she is like the only one that really can step up to the Doctor's level and I don't know, companions usually look up to him like this perfect thing and like 'Ohh... the Doctor!', I don't know how to explain..

@siliconface I love River Song's strength and ambiguity. Both her mystery and maturity attract me greatly. I'm hoping we'll get double the River Song content in Series 6! Moffat has left me wanting. . .

I think River Song is my favorite companion. :-) Her mysteries intrigue me more than the Doctor's! :-O And that's really saying something. They make a lovely couple... ;-)

@CarlD2 I thought the chemistry was good then and now. Tennant's Doctor and River were more intense together, but now the chemistry is more playful. But I've liked both. They're all great actors and it's an intriguing storyline!

@kaiokenx3 The incarnation of River Song that Alex Kingston plays is at least the second regeneration of Amy & Rory's daughter. She would only resemble her parents in her original body.

Oh man, I can't wait for the next series! After watching Moff's comments here, I really think we're gonna see River's first meeting with the Doctor! :D Though I still demand a snog!

Heh, after watching all of Series 5, I went back and watched Silence in the Library. Now, River's reaction when she realizes the Doctor has no idea who she is is absolutely heartbesreaking. They have a wonderful little moment with River's hand on the Doctor's face and he's looking completely bewildered, while she looks sad and almost betrayed. I'll probably watch it again after Series 6, when everything is laid bare, and that scene will wreck me completely. ^_^

@shmikex I was referring to the number of times River Song regenerated. Alex Kingston plays River Song's third incarnation, but only her second regeneration.

I don't think River is anyone from the past, but she does remind me of Donna at times.

My theory is that river is actually not river...... Like, Melody Pond was locked away, and then River took her place, obliged to kill the doctor. Or that River and Melody were twins, and that Melody refused to kill so River actually took her place. I know that melody and river are the same person, but it would be a cool twist, I reckon.

I thought she regenerated three times. Once as Melody pond and the girl in the astronaut suit, then as Mel, Rory and Amy's school mate, then as River.

@TsuoiKaze I do think River Song is popular with the general audience, but haters are always going to be the loudest voices in the fandom. In the magazine polls, she scores the highest in what fans are most looking forward to for Series 6. Clearly there are people who like her.

I think so many fans hate her because they want the doctor all the way back to 05 and CE and theyre mad he might be "Married" LOL

@TsuoiKaze I think her first story was one of the reasons why - Donna and the Doctor were such a tight team and she was mainly talking about things we would never see. She and the Doctor were also awkward together. Now she and Matt Smith seem just magical together.

@TsuoiKaze I think it was how she looked in the angel episode. She looks so much better and is so much more likable in the more recent episodes.

Ok,... here is a bit of "semantics" I guess. I see people saying that River lives backwards but I do not believe they ever actually say she is living full reverse to the Doctor,...in her first meeting of him [Tennant] she says "we keep running into each other out of order" so all that means is while she is from his future, however far, that they run into each other in something other than linear time order for him,..it could be very varied and mixed up order not necessarily backwards.

Ok,..here is some "semantics" I guess. People say that River is living backwards compared to the Doctor, but I think that may be off base a little. When she first [episode wise] meets the Doctor [Tennant] she says "we keep meeting up out of order" [or something similar] but never [as far as I can tell] say specifically its backwards. Basically "wrong order" could just mean as another Time Traveler their meetings are mixed up compared to the Doctors Linear Time not necessarily backwards.

I'm doing a major DW catch up - I watched the 'season of specials' (Tenant's last), first of the Eleventh Doctor and just the first episode of the current season. So maybe I'm already wrong, but is the spaceman that kills the 1103 year old Doctor actually River Song? The Doctor knew his killer and the killer knew how to really kill the Doctor. I'd like to be wrong, but I've always felt that River's love story is a sad one and not only because her relationship is backwards.

Pretty sure she kills Rory. The Doctor is maybe the red herring guess for her kill victim; naturally, we think it's him. But way too obvious for Moffat, I think. Rory, being her father and the Last Centurian, would be the best man she ever knew…and if they need a new companion after Amy, it'll give Amy a very solid excuse to quit Team TARDIS. But there's something deceivingly tricky in the obvious…might just be exactly what's staring us in the face.

I don't think she's his wife, i mean, he married sooooo many times (the virgin queen, Marilyn Monroe...), and they didn't know her name. i mean, they probably didn't have the level of relationship with him, but knowing his name needs something higher.
