Your videos are super helpful and informative. Thanks for creating them. What's your opinion on PPF coming back for R1S in April? There are none on the shop now.

I made a video a few years ago on my opinion on PPF vs ceramic. See below. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/icebfNmfuqy-fJc.html However, if you wanted PPF, I would get whichever one is cheaper and gets to you faster. From what I've read, Rivian was contracting out the PPF because it was taking them too long at the factory to put it on? I wouldn't wait for a car to get PPF put on it. I'd rather get the car and PPF it after the fact, if you wanted it.

In Nevada, and in most states, Rivian and or Tesla cannot force you to Get insurance on a vehicle you have not picked up yet. By law, you have 30 days to ensure that vehicle. Showing that you currently have auto insurance is absolutely sufficient!

Yeah I wish CA was like that. Was a bit annoying having to do that as part of the buying process. I know our policy has that 30 day thing too, so it seemed like a Rivian specific policy. Oh well, you have to get insurance sooner or later, so I guess I did it sooner.

Was the paper you signed a power of attorney document for the title and registration ?

No, just the application for registration of new vehicle.

As a coapplicant, did the loan show up on your personal credit file ? I was told by Rivian it would. Was this the case for you ?

TBH, I never checked. But it makes sense that it would. Your name is also on the loan just like the other applicant. So it's like you are applying for a loan. So it should show up on your credit report.

SO you had to wait 2 years after you reserved your vehicle and paid the deposit?

Yes. Brand new company, lots of reservations, auto manufacturing is extremely hard, etc. There are plenty of others who are/have waited longer because of location as well. Just part of the process for a new company. In the coming years, you shouldn't have to wait as long to get one.

Rivian is a new company. 2 years ago, Rivian wasn’t even building vehicles yet. Everyone who put a deposit down knew it was a gamble. So it’s not as crazy as it sounds.

When did you reserve your R1S? I ordered mine September 2020 and just finally going through the 8 steps now. Only difference is I traded in my Tesla

July 2021. I was able to get shop access though, so that sped up the process an estimated 6ish months. Had a Q4 delivery estimate before I locked a config.

"Pay in person" was taking the cashier check directly to Irvine, CA or giving it to the delivery driver if taking home delivery?

No way I'm driving down to Irvine (Norcal to Socal) to deliver a check just to pick up the car somewhere up here. Yes, I gave the check to the delivery specialist while looking at my actual car at the SC on delivery day.

So after you confirmed the build in the R1S shop, Rivian will assign the VIN before the 8 steps, right?

You're literally picking out a car that's already built sitting in a lot in Normal, so yes. Sometimes if it's not built, it's already planned, so yes, they will have a VIN for you. You can see the VIN in your account once you lock a config.

This is very subjective. I can't really answer because it depends on your finances and what you're comfortable with in addition to how much you make.

Thanks for a well-done video with detailed information. I've been thinking about trading my Model Y for an R1T. Do you know if there are any other Rivian SC/delivery centers in NorCal other than San Jose?

Ha! We actually replaced our Model Y with the R1S. Space difference is quite substantial TBH. To be fair, it's not apples to apples, but the R1S fits our needs way better. There is! South SF also has an SC to service the Bay Area right now. I had to had mobile service come out recently and the tech was actually out of that SC, not SJ. There's also one in West Sac to service that area. Not exactly close to here, but also a distant possibility if for some reason SSF/SJ didn't work.

Mercury, and it was a lot lol. It's not relevant for you because there are a million factors that go into insurance. Mine doesn't equal yours.

This is a cool vehicle but I would never ever wait two years for a vehicle Period.

That's subjective honestly. We didn't need the car right away, so waiting wasn't a big deal. You have to remember this is a brand new start up. They aren't going to be able to deliver cars instantly like a Chevy or Ford can (and they even take forever depending on the car). Auto manufacturing is extremely hard, and even harder when you're first starting out. Waiting is part of the game for a new company car. Totally worth it though. This car is freakin amazing on many levels.
