Well you also have to realize it’s 7200 ibs. This is also causing it big tracking issues. It’s a good off-roader, but won’t ever be great.

@@logan594I have to disagree. It made it up those inclines just as easily as the gas powered, and all those had off road tires. Plus that EV is just cooler.

@@50Golf123 For larger obstacles in Moab it would struggle a lot. But yes overall vehicle it is amazing. I get mine first half of this year.

I owned different trucks all my life from known brand, and after I recently bought my RIVIAN R1T QUAD MOTOR, I can proudly say that it beats ALL those Jurassic vehicles from Toyota, Nissan, Honda, GMC, Ford & Dodge, period.

Yep it has low rolling resistance AT tires. Stickier are available aftermarket.

Bruh I've been on that hill, with a 4 banger geo tracker on 32's, no problem. Just look at all of the videos cropping up of the hummer EV and the R1T getting stuck offroad. It's sad

The ZR2 rocked it, of course it is the only vehicle with front and rear lockers. I'd like to see Rivian come out with virtual lockers, then it might do better.

The reason the Rivian is spinning is not necessarily because a lack of a good tire (although this could be a factor), it’s mainly the quad motor AWD system on the truck trying to control for wheel slip as the motors divert power.

Hands down, the ZR2. It was absolutely owning that trail. But, the ZR2's have factory front and rear lockers so it isn't exactly an even comparison. Almost every single head to head comparison / review video out there will put the ZR2 over the Tacoma. That being said, Toyota Tacoma's have perhaps a bigger aftermarket following. That's where they seem to shine the best. The Tacoma did well but it's not quite on par with the ZR2. The Rivian was the worst out of the three. Like someone mentioned before, perhaps so better tires would be a big improvement on the trail.

I disagree, in fact my thought was that they performed just about the same, within the margin of error of outside variables like driver technique, line choice, tire pressure, etc. To say that one significantly (or even perceptibly) outdid the other is a stretch.

I'd love to know the driver's feedback on what was going on with the throttle when the Rivian lost traction. Did he let off or did the system cut in?

I think the weight of the Rivian made him slip back and he lifted his foot off the accelerator to the brake in reaction.

@@ZenEndurance I think you're right and I think this is going to be the R1T/S's biggest flaw coupled with you can only get as small as 20s on the wheel because of the brake clearance. I'm not cancelling my R1S reservation any time soon but I think it's clear that the weight thing is always going to be the tradeoff when it comes to 4X4'ing. The Colorado is svelte compared to the Rivian meanwhile a Wrangler 2-door owner would call the ZR2 a fat cow.

I'm sure the electric torque just spinning the wheels way too fast doesn't help for off road. I wonder if the can come out with some sort of low gear ratio 🤔

Stock for stock, the ZR2 walks the Tacoma hands down. Even with lift wheels and tire mods, the ZR2 is still the better off-road machine.

@Ameri Pat ok, well if your happy with it thats all that matters, I just got a new 2022 Tundra and i plan to drive it a while. As far as electric vehicles go not sure they will be that popular but i doubt that gas cars will be going anywhere.

Rivian has zero articulation. Would say something about the tires but they can't overcome the horrific suspension setup of the Rivian.

these things do horrible off road, no matter the tire they will spin like crazy thanks to the weight of them. They also have pretty much zero articulation. Anyone who thinks these things are good offroaders simply just do not know anything about the hobby.
