Rick was a great guy and a true American success story. But he was tough to work for because he wanted the best from his people. Having said that my uncle worked for him from the 80s until around 2000 and he said there was days he'd want to punch him but he always knew he had his back. He really got people to perform at a higher level and even though they had disagreements at the end he really cared and that was why he got upset when he saw people underperforming......... It's a long story but my aunt was hit by a drunk driver and in the icu over 1100 miles away. As soon as Rick heard he had his plane in the air and flew my uncle from the jobsite to meet the plane in his helicopter and got my uncle to the hospital before my aunt passed away. If it wasn't for him he'd never had made it flying commercial. But Rick didn't stop there, he paid for her funeral although he denied it like a lot of the great things he did for people. Lastly before my uncle left Rick invested in our business when no one else would and while Rick and my uncle have both passed on I still think and thank them every month when I write the check for the loan.

Sd40-2's are about as bullet proof as the old GP-9.s were back when steam was put out to pasture. Over designed, easy to maintain, can take horrendous amounts of abuse and just keep on going.

I was gonna say is that a former CP unit? The single rear headlight and the Vertical Steps are a dead giveaway. If I'm not mistaken it would have been originally built in London Ontario which is not too far from me.

Never knew they had a GP40-2 i always see the SD40-2 pair 5700 and 5721 switching in the yard behind the jeld wen plant and bringing in cars for me to unload at the plant. 2300 has been getting used a lot more in that yard lately. There's an engine in RJ Corman livery that comes around occasionally but I've never gotten to see it up close yet.

@@AbelG8781 First, I thought compressors had some kind of air dryers. (It's been a few years since I looked at these things, so I may be fantasizing again.) Second, it seemed like an awful lot of moisture needing to be freed. Gives new appreciation to why MR1 feeds the horn, and MR2 feeds the brakes. And, yes, I am well aware of the role of spit valves ("water keys," prefer the manufacturers.) They are one the main reasons you don't put chewing gum you find on the band room floor into your mouth. Which line does CP Rail use from BING to Bethlehem ? I used to live in upstate New York and I monitored the lines from Saratoga to the Mohawk yard and to the mechanicville and Albany yards and I would see the intermodals heading south out of the mechanicville yard through mohawk down a long i-88 into Binghamton and they would head south from there and eventually wind up in Bethlehem or hellertown From what I can tell the Norfolk southern that comes out of Reading is not moving those intermodals they're not changing power from CP Rail so CP Rail must be continuing down from Scranton and not going through Reading but I can't figure out what tracks they're using to get to their intermodal yard in hellertown It doesn't look like they're coming down the Lehigh Gorge There must be tracks north to south west of the Lehigh gorge line and east of the line that heads North out of Redding I don't know what line that is or if CP Rail owns it or if they just have track rights I remember when d&h used to have passenger rail service from Albany through mechanicville through all the little towns down to Scotia and all the way down route 7 before 88 was built and through Scranton and all the way down to Allentown there used to be a railyard a couple blocks over from the Greyhound bus station and I would see d&h power and Lehigh valley power all the time in that yard. There was a pizza place right across from the yard and I would go there to get a couple slices and watch the trains I was a long time ago and I can't even remember where that was in the city or if it was Bethlehem or if it was Allentown but I think it was Allentown So long ago I miss those days they were simpler times

The CP train you're talking about ran from Saratoga to Binghamton on the old D&H mainline then down the former DLW to Dupont, PA where they got on former LV (now RBMN) to Allentown. Freight was dropped in the old CNJ hump yard while the pigs were brought across to the river yard on the south side of the river. NS ran a similar train, 36/37T, but that too is now gone. They abolished that pool not long after I stopped working for NS out of Binghamton.

@@spgorilla3986 Thank you very much, sir! Thanks to your info, I learned another piece of history. This time it is about one brave man Joseph-Marie Piollet, who took part in great battles of Napoleonic european wars and was seriously wounded in the famous battle of Austerlitz in december 1805. He has also working for the banking house of French Foreign Minister Charles Maurice de Talleyrand-Perigord and moved to America to orginize the sale of Talleyrand's lands in Northern Pennsylvania. More to the point, who owns them. In Europe, most rail lines (passenger or freight) are owned by the government - as is the case with the airlines. Further, their HGV (European HGV) does NOT use rail much - it mostly uses roads (even the rail videos here on KZfaq point that out). Passenger rail is primarily a loss-leader in Europe, and it's getting worse (not better) due to Covid-19 issues being worse in Europe than in North America (even Canada - which is worse off than the US). Throw in the flooding - what will passenger rail look like in Europe in a year?
