Yes, this is a continuation of "Good Evening". "Good Evening" represented their stages of grief and what the guys went through (emotionally, insensitivity from the media, and anxiety over how to handle everything) and now "I Want You" tells of how much Jonghyun is missed, but also shows how they are coming to terms with what happened. They are also looking for Jonghyun in their dreams. This is why all the scenes are chaotic; it's because they're dreaming, much like the MV for "Dream Girl". In fact, there are a couple scenes: one with Onew & one with Minho, where you see the spinning black/white stripes that were prominent in the "Dream Girl" MV. The guys seem to be saying they want to go back to that time when they were all together and have a "different ending" in the future than what they are experiencing now. However, when they wake up, they must once again face the reality of the situation. You must remember that these guys are TIGHT; more so than any other group. They have been together longer than most and have said that they have spent more time together than with their families. The reason they stayed together and came back so quickly was because they didn't want to let Jonghyun and SHAWOLs down. The "From Now On" concert was a way to grieve with SHAWOLs and honor Jonghyun's memory and what he meant to all of them. In addition, Jonghyun's dream was SHINee forever, and the guys have vowed to never disband but always remain SHINee 5 = 5HINee.

re: what you said about them grieving, you're right in that I don't think there's ever an appropriate timeline, but also I think they were so heavily scheduled in 2018 that they didn't have the time and they knew it. the reality of the kpop scene is that a lot of groups don't make it after enlistment, and even if Jonghyun hadn't passed they would have had a really intense year to get to capitalize on both their tenth anniversary and getting in every project they wanted to do before the majority of them enlisted. I know they had therapy as a group in the wake of everything, but I do wonder if they just needed the long break. Key said in some comeback stuff this year he was finally at a point where he could talk about Jonghyun happily and reminisce about him without wanting to cry or be upset, and I think that was likely true of all of them--they had to get through 2018 first. and then in the case of Minho, Key, and Onew, they had the privacy that comes with enlisting to grieve on their own terms, and Taemin had his own schedule to do what he needed to do as well.

most of the album trilogy was already completed as in songs chosen and choreo, some songs had to be rerecorded. if you do album listens you can still hear jjong in some of the harmonies. they even kept him in one of the tracks as a surprise for fans in "lock you down". it really is a healing album trilogy imo.

they'd actually held the From Now On concert tour in Japan at the start of 2018 (february) - because it was already planned for and agreed on by all five of them so the boys went ahead with it, keeping in mind that it's the last concert they'd perform with jonghyun. so it was really so much sooner than their TSOL comeback in may. i have to tell you, i flew to japan to be there for SHINee during the darkest moments of our time together and it was truly a concert for grieving and healing as a community - both for SHINee and shawols. it was almost a cathartic, spiritual experience and it was immensely difficult for me. i can't imagine how difficult it was for them, they are really the strongest people and they love each other SO much, you can really feel it. it takes pure strength and love to do something like that.

The lyrics for this hit me so hard. That feeling of waking up and realizing that the happiness and joy you had in your dream, that you were with the one you loved….I know that feeling so much. To the point instant tears came. I’ve lost both my parents after long battles with illnesses, and I often dream of them being alive, then wake up and realize they aren’t. Or worse, it’s one of my cyclical nightmares and I wake up to realize they are gone only for them to walk in and me to have them again, then I wake up and realize they are gone until they come in again, over and over until I actually wake up and I’m paralyzed because I don’t know if I’m dreaming or awake or if my parents are alive or dead. I once had one of these of my mom (I lost her in 2014 and my dad in February) and my dad came home from work to find me sobbing on the porch unsure if mom was alive and if I was awake or asleep. The hope of seeing someone you miss terribly in your dreams only to wake up and have it ripped from you, it’s like losing them again. So these lyrics, the pain the members have went through…it’s torture.

I've heard people mention that the strange dreamlike imagery in the MV is what they are seeing in the magic well. Sort of an imagined dream world. I think the light tone and happy imagery conflicts with everything in a comforting way that really gets exemplified by Onew's weird face journey. None of this set of albums is wholly happy or sad. It's full of hope and light and memories but also full of grief and confusion and emptiness. I think the reason it resonates with me so much is that it's such a real picture of life and grief and love. People say that grief is just love with nowhere to go and this album really shows the outpouring of all that that means.

it was hard to see them as four physically. but they teach me to move on while holding memories. I hope Jonghyun is happy wherever he is. and thank you for understanding and enjoying SHINee more

what I appreciate about the singles from this album is that they can all read as being about what they've just gone through vs being about relationships (except Our Page which is very explicitly about Jonghyun). i think that ambiguity kind of impacts the videos too, and maybe it was more safe for the videos to exist in this imagined unreal space. I know we've seen SHINee videos that are totally out there (Get the Treasure comes to mind) but all their videos to this point are very clearly music videos (Everybody) or set in SOME kind of a reality that has its own universe rules that are understood. Good Evening and I Want You are so far removed from that--the copy-pasting of them throughout this video really make that clear, the weird well, the enclosed space they're in in Good Evening and the plastic sheet and the paint their under... it just feels like something so out of reality, and I wonder if it was a safer space to play in for them in the aftermath of Jonghyun's passing.

To understand the story in SHINee's "I Want You" MV you have to connect it to the story in their "Good Evening" MV. "Good Evening" is about the grieving process and how the members all dealt with Jonghyun's death in the public eye. In "I Want You" it's a continuation of that story, however, now it's about how the members are learning to find happiness again. Like in Alice in Wonderland, where Alice follows the White Rabbit down the rabbit hole and discovers a magical wonderland. In the "I Want You" MV the members follow the fox (which is supposed to represent Jonghyun) into the magical well on a journey to find happiness. The fox represents Jonghyun's spirit as he helps guide the rest of the members through life. This MV is full of a range of emotions because that is exactly how the members are feeling at this time. You should look at the song as bitter sweet, not necessarily sad -- it has a hopeful, happy theme. You also see SHINee in space catching diamonds because the diamonds represent SHINee, Shawols and Jonghyun. SHINee's symbol is a diamond and the group was given the name SHINee because the members shine like stars. They are collecting diamonds to show just how important the group and everything to do with SHINee is to them. Jonghyun is now our star and "Diamond in the Sky." One reason SHINee are in space is thought to be because being in space is closer to Heaven and closer to Jonghyun. Plus, Jonghyun really loved the moon. It was even said that the moon turned a pearl aqua color -- SHINee's fan color -- the day of Jonghyun's funeral. And fans took comfort in the fact that this meant that his spirit had made it to Heaven and that he was now at peace. This MV is supposed to show how SHINee sees themselves and how they are dealing with everything that happened, which is different than how in "Good Evening" they feel the general public sees them. Everything from SHINee's Story of Light album is linked and the entire album is about different things to do with Jonghyun and the journey they have been on for the past 10 years, etc. And even Key's solo debut "Forever Yours" MV and Face album and Onew's solo debut "Blue" MV and Voice album are connected to these MVs. This dance studio is the same dance studio that you have seen all of SM's artists dancing in in most of the other dance practice videos you have watched. Yes, it's not the old one with the cloud backdrop or the one with the pillars from EXO's first few dance practice videos, but it's the same dance studio that all of SM's dance practices have been filmed in since then. It's the one that all of NCT's and EXO's dance practices have been filmed in from around 2015-2021. (It's the same room that EXO filmed their "The Eve" dance practice in, for example.) It has the ability to look like a different room depending on what angle they film in and the way they change the lighting in the room, but it's the same dance studio everyone uses, up until SM moved to its new building a month or so ago. The room is large, so they can film in a lot of different ways. I don't know if somebody already mentioned this to you, but they always leave an empty spot for Jjong in their choreography. SHINee and the choreographers did that in purpose, because he's always here with us... Even the stages set, there will be always 5 elements..

with all due respect to everyone commenting and leaving their own interpretation, I think adding assumptions & own interpretation on things shinee addressed about something personal to them is a bit much & unintentionally misleading to new fans not to mention discarding shinee members own words is not cool especially when it comes to this 1-SHINee members said in interviews that good evening music video is about how the public sees them in general; that's why they spend most of the mv in a glass room that everyone can look inside but don't really know them and the cameras surrounding them are the media and the public eyes always following every move, the choreo for good evening is controlled for the first half because it is what the media see and it is carefree in the second half because that's how it really is and the reality. for I want you music video, they mentioned a couple of times that it's about how they see themselves. the fox and the moon are nods to Jonghyun because he liked the book called little prince, the fox also represents fans actually according to minho and one who said the fox aka fans see the truth and how how they know their true nature without the idea/narrative media have on them. our page music video is directly about how they grieved after December 18th and the song lyrics is about their journey as a group and they wrote for jonghyun and in the song, Onew say softly at the end of our page "you did well" to Jonghyun 2-I don't know why I saw a comment or two below saying sm banned shinee from talking about Jonghyun when that never happened and Key literally more than once said they talk about him on their own terms and if anyone has seen their activities from interviews and shows will know that they mention him normally just fine, they just don't like to mention him in shows that will misuse his name and twist everything into a certain narrative the media wants about him and about them as a group 3- a lot of that album lyrics and songs (good evening, I want you, You & I, Jump, who waits for love and undercover) were already in preparation for a comeback they were supposed to have in October 2017, but due to number of issues that comeback was delayed and they instead planned for a more grand comeback for their tenth anniversary with 3 different mini albums as part of a big album, some of the songs I mentioned were said by the composers that had very early first demos as five, but first demos can't be released so they had to re-record the songs and some of the songs while planned didn't even have demos as five so when they recorded them it was in 2018 4-they also in 2017 were planning a number of concerts to celebrate their tenth anniversary followed by a tour and the tickets were out in November 2017, but what happened happened and they thought about cancelling those concerts, but Jonghyun's mom told them to not do that and carry on with the concerts. those concerts were in Feburary 2018 and as you can see from the timeline they didn't really have time to grieve or prepare much for the tenth anniversary so they went with demos they had already chosen before and like I mentioned earlier had to re-record some songs 5-there was a song they finished recording as five call "lock you down" and that song is in the album by the way 6- in a b-side for a song in the album called who waits for love, the choreographer said he at first made that choreo for them as five, and while the choreo adjusted to fit them four, at the end you can see they leave an empty space for Jonghyun 7- the talk about how every song in the album is about Jonghyun is untrue there are literally directly romantic and even slightly sexual love songs and like I said the composers confirmed themselves that the five members had demos chosen long before anything happened, the songs were just recorded and re-recorded in 2018 so a lot of people think any song with sad lyrics released after Jonghyun passed to be about him when it isn't, I have seen some people do the same with the songs with sad lyrics the members also released for their albums and that's honestly too much and it really is weird how some just love to associate anything sad with Jonghyun when he was more than his passing

Watching the MV, I get reminded of some things/memories of SHINee. Like certain aspects from SHINee’s One Fine Day, and other stuff. Yeah, the whole TSOL is a dedication. I kinda understand where they’re coming from though especially when Key said that he wanted people to treat them the same (somewhere along those lines can’t remember the exact things he said). Them pushing to perform and make albums, in a way helped them cope with what happened. I remember from a movie or series, where the character said that “I know that if I stop, I may never continue again” something like that? It’s also how they know to celebrate his life, on stage where they have memories together and actually what brought them together (them being a created group). The feeling of performing, something familiar and something they all enjoyed together.

I think because the time of release is what made both good evening and I want to seem they are about what happened & dec 18 despite both songs along with other songs in the first two mini albums from the story of light series are songs they already had demos for in 2016 and a fact they were supposed to have a comeback in 2017 but there were some issues happened that prevented that. they have been planning for their tenth anniversary since early 2017 & even had grand concerts announced but what happened -happened & yeah..... I want you & another song called jump had a demo with all five of them and they re recorded both and good evening along with other songs, they already had but still needed rework. there is a song with the five of them in the album actually which was meant for the album they planned back then they directly said the first two mini albums aren't about what happened and basically our page is what directly address that. they also said they released our page at the end because they didn't like how the media talked about what happened along with how some non-fans and kntez were invading their privacy and even attacking them at one point so they didn't want to release something at first that isn't related to what happened so by the time the media along kntez and nonfans lose interest and they be able to release their feelings in our page more freely the music video for good evening is about how the media and non fans see them and in this mv for I want you it is about how they see themselves

The whole Story of Light series is pretty good and I really do commend SHINee for all of the hard work they put in so shortly after Jonghyun passed away. There are videos on KZfaq of their Japan concerts and I've seen clips of it (their performances of Diamond Sky and From Now On are heartbreakingly beautiful) but still haven't been able to bring myself to watch the whole thing. It seemed pretty cathartic to have those concerts for both SHINee members and Shawols alike to be able to grieve together. I'm anxious excited for you to get to Our Page. It is extra special because the SHINee members wrote the lyrics for that song and it gets to me every time. Prepare the Kleenex. You were mentioning about how hard it must be for them to perform these songs and Our Page is that song for comeback stages that was hard to watch too. Anyway, hope you had a good Thanksgiving!

They were already committed to some things timewise. But they also knew Shawols were grieving as much as they were. Their concert tribute to Jonghyun breaks my heart every time but was also necessary for healing to begin in my opinion. It is a Beautiful thing as much as it is sad. ❤️❤️❤️

I see this song as I want/miss you and its OK to feel that...From what I know they didn't really have time to grieve as they wanted ..I know that SM didn't want them to talk about it as much as they felt they wanted to...Key especially said that..but being together and working together helped and gave them strength and focus. I know Onew was particularly worried about Taemin being on his own when they enlisted..he thought he would be lonely 💔. As you know fan relationships with certain K-groups are different than western groups...Taemin said their Shawol family helped him a lot with support and care. I think the choice to enlist when they did was a lot to do with needing time away and staggering it so Taeminne wasn't on his own for as long. I feel all the songs from this time are sad but also have a positive hopeful mood to them too ..As I said last time the closeness of the 4 is really echoed in these choreos and MVs ..appreciating having the love and support of each other. They were all very tactile (even more I think than before) in all the MVs from Story of Light and going forward.

Super late to the party this week, looking forward to catching up! I love what you said about interpretation, and that's one of the reason's I enjoy watching other people react thoughtfully because it's so interesting to see a different perspective. I really love the abstract/surreal visuals in the Good Evening/ I Want You mvs and the less structured choreo. Other people have already explained that most of TSOL was actually prepared back in 2017 before their comeback was delayed. I know you're getting a lot of mixed messages in the comments! Of course who really knows what changes might have been made in the final versions and why, but the truth is we don't really know most of those details. It was a pretty chaotic time and 2017 had already been difficult for Shawols even before December. They were ridiculously busy in 2018 right up until enlistment time. I'm sure it helped in a way to keep working until they had the break that the complete removal from their idol life in the military would afford them, where they could grieve out of the spotlight. I hope that Taemin is able to recharge too, he worked continuously while the others were gone both with solo work and with SuperM. I really resonate with what you said about associating songs with certain moments and feelings, I would be shocked if we ever get another performance of Our Page. Speaking of, I also recommend using the official lyric video someone linked already rather than a fan-made one. Thanks for sharing these videos!

Hi RJ, I love every SHINee video that you posted. About what they feeling after jonghyun passed away, they told to the people on the Radio Show ep 569. It's very hard to do comeback soon in this situation. But they decided it for their brother, jonghyun.

First of all I really want to recommend you to use this video when you do your reaction to 'Our Page'! This time there isn't much to interpret because it's 100% about Jonghyun and all the members wrote the lyrics for it! So I hope you consider using this video 🙏 Second now to this video! different comment to say why some in the comments want anyone to do a reaction to something as personal as from now on performance & concert? that performance alone was triggering and not only most shawols can't even watch it, but shinee members state in it was very emotional, and asking ppl over & over to react to something like that is very weird like do you guys just want to get emotional reactions from others uncaring about how that performance was highly personal?
