I can tell you, that over here in Germany that's like a "normal" price these days. I bought an R1 RN09 last year as price were climbing and would be able to sell it for more than i spent. In your case i'd call it a bargain for the new owner considering the state it is in after your work. Keep it up. 👍🏻

Like you said, your time isn't free. Just like the old saying, gas, grass , or ass, or 💸 nobody rides for free! What people don't take into consideration when you make these informative videos is that when you speed up the clips and clap your hands to the next day that's a lot of time that misleads people into believing that you rebuilt the bike in what it takes to watch a 30 minute video. So at the end of the day, you deserve every penny that you get for your hard work and effort. My hat's off to ya for helping preserve bike's that otherwise would end up at a scrap yard. So you keep up the good work and keep making these videos because we're learning a ton of stuff that we wouldn't have had a clue before to know how to do it!

Pretty happy you're making a go and ends are meeting for sure. At the end of the day, the bike's value is only determined by a wallet emptying its contents on to your desk so there's no disputing that whatsoever. I think the biggest gap is the value of the "i already had it at the shop", "a buddy gave it to me" and "this video was sponsored by" parts. All told this would have made the bike far more expensive for someone else to do for themselves.
@RKMotorsports
@RKMotorsports 2 жыл бұрын
It definitely would have been more expensive if I had to buy the parts that I got for free, but even after that there still would have been a profit. Just like they say, it pays to know people

6000 is steep for my area for that year bike but many people are absolutely in love with that generation R1 and say its arguably the best model year. i see them go for 4500-5500 in my area on average so its slightly believable.

It came out so nice. 🤓 However, it might seem like a good chunk of profit was made but this was an exception and not the rule due to the fact that Rob got the most expensive parts for free. If he had to pay for the tank, fairings and swingarm, the profit would've been less than minimum salary. Still, when you consider the amount of labor he puts in every rebuilt bike to make them nice, really, he doesn't make much. In the end, his customers are the ones that profit the most, because they got properly rebuilt bikes for a good price. It's better than buying from private parties. No surprises to be found.

I mean. Its a mid-2000s R1. I'm not surprised 6k was what you sold it for. Most bikes from that era, even 600s, if they're well maintained can go for a relatively decent amount. So even after a wreck-rebuild, what you got for it is pretty awesome.

If we are just talking about profit there are a number of factors being left out. Free or existing parts are a part of business. Sometimes things work out that way. Your labor is a very important factor that is not being added in. If you counted that you wouldn't really be making money. But having a youtube channel and adding in the profit off the views on the vids would be a definite profit. There is also knowing how the bike was put together. I bought a used 2001 R1 for $4000 and I could only guess about it's life before me. I got lucky and bought it the day it was posted. He had to pull the add so many people were responding. I would have paid $5000 but not $6000. But I would not have cool ass vids of my bike being rebuilt on your tube!!

Rob, Love your videos! You saved a lot of money by having stuff either given to you for free or laying around your shop. If someone like me or anyone else would have taken on this project, we would have to do it for fun or do it for the challenge. The average price or worth on this bike is around 4900k or less depending on the shape of a used bike. For someone like me or anyone else , it would be better to find a used one instead of repairing a totaled bike. you did educate me on one thing, that if you do not have parts lying around or a sponsor ship, repairing a totaled bike out and then trying to sell it later and to make a profit is something I need to stay away from! LOL!! 6k is awesome! good work!

Assuming 20hrs/week spent working on the bike for 2 months. That's $25/hr. Making the video clearly showed the buyer how well it was repaired, and the discounted parts also helped heavily. If anyone is thinking of replicating this without a large KZfaq channel and existing backyard of parts it probably won't go as smoothly.

Considering that all vehicles are experiencing elevated prices and we’re at the beginning of the riding season, oh yeah, $6K all day long. Having said that, it’s VERY fortunate that you didn’t have to pay for the fairings, tank and a fuel pump. That’s almost $2K right there. But those are the breaks for doing this for a while. 2004-2005 R1s are actually a very desirable year/generation for Yamaha. I have a 2004 R1 with a lot of very good parts, full arata exhaust system, ohlins suspension/ steering dampener, vortex rear sets, oem red metallic fairings, fresh power 5 tires, upgraded pads and rotors with steel lines... ect. Mines also in super good condition, never been laid down, well maintained with 20k miles. Crazy you were able to obtain 6k for that rebuilt one. Reassures me that mine might be worth some good money as well. Love the bike however and hope to keep it for a while. Nice videos btw
