My intention is to travel as much of the coast of both North and South Ireland and have chosen the Birkenhead Liverpool to Belfast night crossing because that is the crossing I made 66 years ago when I was just 16 years old to join the M V Rakaia, the ship that would be my home for the next 2 years. In this episode I start the Causeway Coastal Route at Larne and get as far as Bushmills, famous for its fantastic whisky.

Once again, thank you so much for your kind words. I have, what is virtually, an open ticket for my return ferry crossing. So how far I will get is dependant on the weather and how I feel. The next episode should be up in a couple of days. Best regards to you all, Michael

Firstly Michael, I can see why Ireland is known as the Emerald Isle, it is beautiful in it's fresh lush greenery. second I find it difficult to comprehend an 8 hour ferry trip, surely it isn't that far? Cheers, David.

Thanks for catching up all 3 Episodes David. I can see two more comments from above. The route os the longest, abot 155 nautical miles so the ship has to make up to 20 knots bearing in mind it is slow going into Belfast for quite a distance. Whe the crossing? It is the only crossing (unless you go all the way up to Strammar) from the UK to the UK. The other shorter crossing go from the UK to the EU. Hope that explains. When I come over next time I shall go from Holyhead. Cheers Michael

What a great comment. I rather like merlot, nice soft wine and easy on the head next morning. Do you "flirt with the girls" in Frence or English? Mandy is in Scotland again so it is just Monty and me in Gwendolyn. Hope your water meter trip goes well, regards Michael
