The transmission towers are neccessary to bring all energy, even wind energy to its destination. Unless you have your own wind generator that is.

Not all windmills have 50m wide wings. And not all mills use wings, just google image "Urban windmill" to see a few. These don't even have to face the wind.

great job Rick, you sure are brave. not meant as a political comment, but why do we accept these transmission towers as a given, when some many people can't accept wind turbines? what's uglier? they are both important given our dependence on electricity.

***** Helicopters and other types of aircraft are often owned by leasing agencies who then lease the equipment to companies who what to use them. This arrangement allows companies to use equipment like helicopters without having to come up with the millions of dollars needed to purchase the equipment outright. I'd guess in this situation (I don't know for sure), that the helicopter is owned by an American leasing company--hence the US registration--but operated by a Canadian company (apparently Valard Construction).

I'm in complete agreement with JoelsMyName2000. The only way to maintain a base load of energy per unit time, or Watts (Kilowatts, Megawatts), is to have energy conversion utilities that can maintain a baseload and other utilities that can ramp up the power (watts) as needed, relatively quickly to adjust for demand at different times of the day and different times of the year. My concern is that we are wasting our time with the CANDU technology as is, when using uranium. Why should China, using one of our CANDU reactors, be the first to get commercial power from THORIUM. Uranium is a finite element. Maybe 50 to 100 years of supply at todays worldwide consumption. Reprocessing waste/spent fuel will help tremendously, as France's AREVA nuclear utility does. But the "Greens" fearmongering has shut down a critical industry in most of the world. Canada should be developing the UREX AND PUREX re-processing system. WHY THROW AWAY SPENT FUEL RODS INTO A POOL, WHEN ONLY 5% OF THE FUEL HAS BEEN CONVERTED INTO ENERGY. XENON 135, A FISSION PRODUCT OF URANIUM 235, IS A NEUTRON SCAVENGER, EFFECTIVELY STOPPING THE CONTROLLED CHAIN REACTION! THAT IS WHY THEY CHANGE THE FUEL BUNDLES EVERY 2 TO 3 YEARS. SO WE ARE THROWING 95% (approximately) of the ENERGY INTO A POOL FOR CENTURIES. THE NUCLEAR TECHNOLOGY OF THE FUTURE WILL BE THE LFTR. (Liquid Flouride Thorium Reactor.) Look it up on your search engine of choice. And read the book: "SUPER FUEL Thorium, the Green Energy Source for the Future", by Richard Martin 2013....ISBN 978-0-230-11647-4 ad iudicium
