I did have to find my own preceptor with site. This can be difficult, especially if you don’t work in a facility already. Do you work in a facility? GCU Is arranging online clinical or even hybrid of online and in person.

Hi David! Thanks for sharing. Anyway, the Capstone at the end of the program is not like clinical hours in ADN program right? I am required to find a mentor and clock in 10 hours per week? Do I have to physically go to my mentor’s workplace (for example, hospital or clinic) to complete that 10 hours?
@DabidRobinson
@DabidRobinson 3 жыл бұрын
No it is nothing like the ADN. I did clock 10 hours a week but, you really need to have a mentor that is going to sign off on your hours. My hours really were not spent shadowing but I counted the time we talked about my project as hours. So... try and find someone who will just sign the paper lol

David Robinson Thanks a lot for the information! So, you meant to say by discussing about your topic with your mentor either face to face or over the phone will count?I was told to find my mentor and will wait for the school and organization’s approval. Thanks again David!!
@DabidRobinson
@DabidRobinson 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah... face to face or over the phone. There is a lot of grey area and the only way they monitored my time was by receiving the piece of paper that my mentor signed each week that stated we worked together for 10 hours. The whole process is official so you will need to find someone who meets the criteria and it will need to be approved.

The last class you need to have a "mentor". For me it was one of my charge nurses, who we "spend hours with" (i think 100) and they have to sign off on your last project. It really is not as bad as it sounds though. There is no test, just a long paper, that classes leading up to will help you complete pretty easily. Congrats btw haha

GCU will provide classes that you can take through GCU to meet the credits that you need. Hello quick question. Did you attend community college for associates in science for your RN? than go back for your BSN? I wanted to do CEP but I feel like it would be scary. I know in this video BSN you said that there was no exams so that’s amazing haha

That’s correct I did my associates but then a year later went back for my BSN. The cep is cool because you can get them both done, there aren’t any tests but I feel like the BSN is a lot of busy work. For myself, I don’t think I would of been able to get through my associates if I was also trying to focus on papers for my BSN.

Hi David, How did you manage to do the capstone class with a 100 hr requirement while working full time? What tips or tricks can you provide?
@DabidRobinson
@DabidRobinson 4 жыл бұрын
Well... They say it's a 100 hour requirement but lets be real... Find yourself a mentor who know, if possible. It isn't like doing your clinical in your associates, you do not have to be in the hospital the whole time. Even discussing your project with your mentor counts as time towards your project. Just clock 10 hours each week and you'll get to 100 fast.

GCU is driving me nuts so many papers.Weekly papers are not necessary.The DQ questions are ridiculous though.Now can you please tell me how many classes you had to take.I have 9 nursing courses on my 3rd now and they added 2 elective because I need 36 credits total.Today I decided to write my counselor and ask if there are anyway I can clep the none nursing ones out.She sent me infos but they are not clear enough
@DabidRobinson
@DabidRobinson 5 жыл бұрын
I took a total of 11 online courses while in the program and one additional class at community college because i also needed more credits. I 100% agree that writing a paper once a week is unnecessary, and the DQ questions are more opinion than anything else. You just have to take it one week at a time because it can seem very overwhelming. I worked as a nurse while in the program and this helped me out a lot when deciding on what to write about. Are you working as a nurse as you work on this?

The statistics class was pretty challenging and time consuming, because they have you download this software and doing these calculations. The capstone was actually very easy for me. It was about ten weeks long and we did not have an assignment due every week. I will say my teacher did not give much instruction other than the syllabus for her class, I think because she gave little instruction, he graded easier.

I had to pull out my papers to remember what my change proposal was about. There was already so much work and little parts for the Capstone, i kept my topic very very simple. Cheamora I am on my third class and it all depends on the teacher.My last teacher requested 2 references per DQ questions.This class only require 1. It all depends on the questions really when you think of it,to better answer a question,you need to do a little research on the topic and definitely reference and add your in text citation.When it comes to replying to other students you dont need references.Good luck on your journey.I feel like although the program is convenient in that I dont have to attend class, the requirements are too much.For example DQ questions 2 per week and 6 replies,one paper each week and group projects where some students dont even want to participate....It's a little much.I picked GCU because they had agfiliation to my ADN school and took all of my 84 credits.So I only need 9 classes and 2 electives to make the remaining 36 credits since we need 120 for a Bachelor's degree.Also I have heard that you can take exams to get credit for the 2 electives and be done after Capstone.I will do just that that will save me 3000 dollars.
