The idea behind ''Road House'' has been done hundreds of times, specifically in Westerns: the lone vigilante who goes to clean up a village under the influence of a rich gangster who is really not nice. These stories all had different names. Why put a target on your back by titling this project ''Road House'', a gem of a film so adored by its fans and starring an almost untouchable actor? We might as well have come up with an equally cool title, changed the names and a few plot points and just publicized that it's an homage to the 1989 classic. Just having Jake and Conor would have been enough to attract people. Add to that a cool actress, a cool musician, a cool soundtrack, a cool title and voila. Now, this film will have to use three-quarters of its energy just to combat the disadvantageous comparisons with Patrick Swayze's cult film. And we can already see the ravages of wokism in the trailer. Oh well. So be it. Who cares really. We still have the 1989 version. No one can take it away.

To be fair that could very well be just the marketing team and the shots they used. Some films have looked pretty awful in a trailer then turned out to be far more fun, or at least watchable, when the film itself arrives.

How so? Jake looks a hell of a lot more like a fighter that Patrick ever did and Connor is one…I’ll give it a shot. Bet From a neutral perspective The new ones probably better.

IDK how you could think this movie "ruined" the original. In my opinion. This new movie is pretty good, actually a bit refreshing. It doesn't feel to me like they tried to remake the original, out of respect. This feels like a different film and I appreciate that. The fight scenes are really good. The camera work was good, too. Story made sense. Characters were good. What's not to like?

@@wesfredricks2543 That's sort of my point. Why even call it Road House? I haven't seen it but it looks absolutely nothing like Road House. Why not make.a movie about surfing or something but name it Star Wars? Who cares if it has nothing to do with the real Star Wars?

I have liked Jake since i saw him in that true story about the kids in Coalwood, West Virginia who made rockets. I was born and half raised just a couple miles from them back in the fifties. Jake is one of the truly great actors in the last couple decades and i will be sure to watch this mo0vie if i am still alive when it comes to my town. I am old enough to have been a middle aged man when Patrick Swayze played the role.

I like Gyllenhaal as an actor. In case u didnt notice, he is ripped. Loved him as Jack Ryan. Im sure he is going to be great in this remake. ❤

"Road House" was loosely based on the town bully of Skidmore, Missouri, named Ken Rex McElroy. McElroy, if you recall, was, um, asked to leave town. By fed-up residents with guns. He left. Not willingly. But he kept getting acquitted in court for some reason. Brian Dennehy portrayed the Ken Rex character in a TV movie called "In Broad Daylight." That was from 1991. But "Road House" came first.
