I too was like you, i am from Mexico. I also rode the bus and would dream about the cars I could buy. I am happy that now I do have my versa, but first I got an old 1998 Neon. with luck and saving money, i was able to sell the Neon and buy my versa. it is a hatchback color blue. I love it and hopefully you buy yours soon! que dios te bendiga, saludos desde Cd. Juarez, Mexico.

review seemed accurate. comfortable, nice handling, quiet with decent suspension, budget sedan with an attractive interior. while time to 60 is slow, this car has a perfectly adequate short burst. Must be gently handled imo. if u're rough on a car need to buy something a little stouter.

me too, mine's a 2012 hatchback. I was so happy when I got it three years ago. I upgraded from a 98 neon and it felt like I upgraded to a brand new car even though it was already 7 years old. It's been super reliable and starts right up every time in the hot and cold.

I rented one and well here is my take. Comfortable front seats 💺, great mpgs, ergonomics, and good legroom. Too much plastic, narrow body with terrible rear seats, terrible ride due to smallish tires, and no power. Also as a note, you will have remove the entire manifold to access the spark plugs.

Toyota 4A-GE (MR2 & Corolla GTS) - About 28 years old, Twin Cam 1.6 l4. 112hp and 97 lb- ft This 2012 Nissan Versa - Brand new, Twin Cam 1.6 l4. 109 hp 107 lb-ft I know the Toyotas were considered more of sports cars and they were considered powerful for 1.6 engines back then, but really almost 30 years apart and this is the best they can come up with? Sorry but that's just pathetic on Nissan's part.

After 4 months I had forgotten what I had written. A couple of things. The 2009 model Versa hatchback DID have the light beige color. Nissan's website should tell you what color interiors are available. I have sat in one, and I find them very comfortable if basic, which is to be expected, and I didn't get that hung up about it not having a center console, since you can always buy those second hand. Why not visit the dealer & drive one, & if you buy one ask the salesman to send me commission! lol

We have a 2009 versa Hatchback which has been very dependable & yesterday just bought a new 2012 Versa SV sedan. These are a heck of a deal for a new car & the 2012 sedan looks pretty sharp. I checked out Hyundai Accent & it's more expensive & has a rougher ride than the Versa. The backseat is roomy enough for our 2 6ft tall sons to ride back there without any complaints, plenty of leg room.

I had a 1981 200sx, It was my very first car. I bought it used years ago with 59,000 miles on it. The car itself was 13 years old when I got ride of it and I owned it for 8 years. At the end of those 8 years the odometer read 218,000 miles! The engine still had a lot of life left in it but it was the rest of the car that was shot. It had the original clutch too! Although it would slip if you got on it to hard. I babied that clutch for a long time and I think any other car's clutch would have failed much sooner. Bottom line is Nissan has been making incredibly reliable cars for years! 218,000 miles from a car built in 1981 was unheard of in that era. That car was also fuel injected and had two spark plugs per cylinder. Right up to adout 160,000 miles when you started it the engine it would turn on instantly. I don't think the starter made a complete revolution. You should see the new 2020 and 2021 Versa. Sporty nice looking little cars! They are still using multi port fuel injected engines instead of direct injection which are having high rates of fuel system clogging and engine carbon buildup problems. Those old MPFI engines mated to a manual transmission should give years of trouble free service!

I rented the Versa hatchback during a 5 day vacation in Florida. HITS: Smooth Ride, roomy, soft arm rests, mushy comfy seats, good visibility, 6 cup holders, responsive,but longish steering. MISSES: Clunky AT shifter, clunky brake pedal, hard square plastic dash, no vanity mirror for driver, odd to park, new interior smell is overwhelming, ONLY 230 miles to the tank for mixed city and highway driving. Versa is okay, but maybe not the best.

The thing I'd be more concerned about, rather than why the dash is plastic, is whether the thing would last long enough to pay for it. I've never had a Nissan, but I have heard that they were less reliable than Honda and Toyota. May or may not be true, but that would be something I would look out for, especially in a cheaper car.

I am pretty sure this car would be at least a second faster to 60 with the manual transmission...It is made in Aguascalientes, Mexico and the one they sell here has a 4speed auto...nissan didn't think us Mexicans would be very fond of the CVT or maybe just our orography doesn't help a small engined CVT car...

@haversman You know what I mean? I mean if this were a $36K car, and they had leather seats in it, then I'd gripe at the lack of wood or leather on the dash & door. But this is a Versa, and you only have to look at I don't know, a Jeep, which is more expensive, to find a worse black plastic interior than what they were able to design for this Versa. I think they showed that a cheap car doesn't have to look cheap. It's gotta be something more than just the plastic people are objecting to!

A couple comments. 1) Aren't ALL cars plastic? There's certainly plastic in my 14 yr old Toyota. Not sure why that's a big deal. In the time I would drive from home to either the grocery store or - when I had a job - work and back I wasn't feeling on the dash! So, as long as it looks decent plastic doesn't bother me. 2nd, I wonder why they made the sedan look so much like the Hyundai Elantra?
@IrisMG
@IrisMG 12 жыл бұрын
@haversman Soft touch "material". That "material" is PLASTIC. So again, I guess I don't understand what the problem is. Are you saying a dashboard needs to be soft? If so, why? when you've got airbags to protect you?

The Versa sedan is for people looking for a small family car with lots of interior room & a plush ride and great fuel economy. If you are looking for a low slung, fast & powerful car that grips the road like a Ferrari then this is NOT your car. That being said, the Versa still outsells ALL other sub compact cars by a large margin, outsells Hyundai Accent by almost double & outsells Toyota Yaris by almost quadruple.

Really? I looked at used cars and all the sub-compacts on the market. The best one of the group was the Hyundai Accent but it starts around $4k more and the value of a Hyundai CRASHES after you buy it. People still think Hyundais are disposable. (I do own a 2001 Accent that I paid next to nothing for three years ago, $1300.) The Ford Fiesta was nice enough for $3k more but the interior room was pitiful for my teenage kids and the radio controls were simply absurd. We got one for $11,770.

@lrossi888 your right about the price difference but im willing to pay that price for a better car. Also design is subjective I personally love the design. Just because Kia had a bad reputation doesn't mean they are bad. my mom has a 2007 kia sportage with almost 80,000 miles and she has never had a single problem with it. Kia rated #1 in brand loyalty.

People are really stupid. For the cheapest car sold in America do you expect material quality you would find in a$20k car, NO! The automaker wouldn't make any money on the midsized car if the Versa has nice materials, cause most would buy the cheaper $10k car if it had the nicest materials. This is a basic commuter car for a teen, or older person with basic car necessity's.

I think John i still stuck in the 1980's when aluminum hubcaps were actually available. All kidding aside, he's right. This car does have the illusion of having a lot of PLASTIC inside. In all actuality it doesn't have any more plastic inside than any other car in this class. It's just cheaper looking plastic in this car.
