Where have I been? What happened? Am I okay? More specifically is Dakota okay?
In short yes we are fine. We are still trucking. This video is meant to really pay respects to not just my struggles, but to all those truck drivers out there also struggling. I know many are just holding it in and acting strong, but I hope I can speak to your heart with this video.
We aren’t alone. We isolate ourselves. Let’s try to do better.
Trucking and its toll on mental health is not something that should be looked over. The damage you can take on is severe if you don’t protect and manage your mental health.
There is help out there if you need it.

PSS. Speaking of snakes never reach your hand inside a tire laying on the ground! Ditto turning something over laying on the ground with your hand! It won't just ruin your day but could ruin your career, or worse.

@@dantimber Hmm as someone from Australia our dogs always sense and find and know where snakes are before we do and am sure her dog would of found it first and given a idea of it. Depends if her and her dog have worked together finding snakes etc as to if she would know it found something too, But if you have no dog yes taking more care is very smart, Australia we have red back spider issues in tyres laying around we need to be careful of.

Shelby, my wife and I have followed your videos for years and love them. We really love to see your interaction with Dakota, your driving buddy/security officer. Remember that your not alone in your struggles and the more you share of the "trucking life" only helps all to understand the challenges that are faced in this industry. Nothing happens without trucks - no food, no products, no fuels - no anything! Truckers are like "Captains of the Road". Their Trucks are like a boat on the sea, with a very limited crew. Dakota is your first mate, but who is doing your filming (a deck hand). LoL Wonderful videos, we live in Bullhead City AZ about 30 miles west of Kingman. Please keep fighting the good fight and you will win!

Trucking can be very stressful that's for sure. I have been trucking for 45 year's but you always have to keep people around you that have positive energy. There is a fine line between adventure and ordeal , but always look for the adventure. Mistakes are part of the job and just look at them figuring out how not to do it . Find a handful of people in the trucking industry that you can trust. I have life long friends that I have trucked with that you can call and ( talk you off the ledge ) when things are not going well. Always remember that beautiful sun rise or sunset you seen and don't let the WTF stuff ruin your day. You have done things in life most people just talk about. Always stay positive.

I am currently about to take a year off of trucking for myself after 8 years…because trucking is is killing my mental. But I love trucking so I’ll be back. We are certainly a masochistic bunch aren't we. Lol. @@ShelbyHBTM I fall into the 2nd camp. I do genuinely love this job. 3 years in myself and although the honeymoon phase ended around 1 year mark for me the last 2 years have still been extremely rewarding. I have way more good days than bad. BUT that being said, the little things add up enough that when I have a bad day I REALLY have a bad day like mentally off the rails kinda day where every small thing feels like someone just murdered my family. Basically my highs are HIGH and my lows are LOW there's not much in between. Blessed enough though that I have way more high/great days than low/bad days. But you really spoke to me though about the mental health side as realistically even though there's more good days than bad days, if my bad days cause me to completely go off my rocker that's an obvious sign I have a lot going on deeper that needs to be addressed. My patience on my bad days is non-existent. Shelby you really are a great person and following your journey has always been great we are all grateful you brought up the mental health topic more in depth as it's something that doesn't get enough attention in this industry!

I left the industry after 5 years. I started at 21. Wanted to drive trucks since I was 18. But had to wait until I was 21. After 5 years the loneliness got to me. I got tired of seeing families out & I’m over here by myself surrounded by strangers. The money slow down. I was like I had it. Now I’m a cop… in the best shape ever… go to church every Sunday. Have a girlfriend & a friend. This weekend we have a picnic planned in the park with the city in the background. I’m happier than ever. When I was young trucking was cool. Because I got paid to see places most people never will. But long term you’re wasting your life away. Best of luck guys in your life. Find your happiness.

Mental health for drivers is huge. You helped me realize that stopping and "smelling the roses" is something we all should do. Also, the benefits of a "traveling companion," especially a dog could help all drivers with safety and companionship could help sole the problems associated with mental health and the over population of dogs in the shelter situations. Thank you for your openness and sharing this crucial part of trucking.

On the dog comment, I say companies that don't allow pets, don't care about their drivers, plain and simple. You wanna charge a deposit to drivers due to cleanup and damage risks sure. But to outright not allow pets is a red flag for me in a company who have no clue what being on the road is really like and run by desk jockeys who have never been over the road. I have a dog and am thankful to be with a company who is very supportive of pets and actually encourages drivers to get them as they know how much our pets keep us sane.

I as a driver experienced isolation and loneliness. Trucking for me was a job I loved. Here today gone tomorrow. Yup it was stressful at times and there were times I would freak out. Even today at 71 I want to go back out. There is a very big truth in you can take the driver out of the truck but you can’t take the truck out of the driver. Once you get diesel in your vains, it keeps calling you, as it does that to me all the time. Trucking is tuff on drivers, it spits them out regularly. You my dear I have always loved your videos. Your special in my eyes. Maybe run with someone you like. But please keep getting help. Get help with the things that are dragging you down I can see it in your eyes and your facial expressions . I was much the same so I recognize it in others. If you need to talk reach out. I am here for a fellow driver. Thank you for posting. Have a great and a safe day. Happy trails to you. D..

Good to see you again, Happy. I was just watching a sad video from Big Rig Becca....her company decided flatbedding wasn't their bag and shut it down leaving her wondering what to do next. I recommended team driving with a friend and actually having time to stop sometimes and have fun. I forgot to say I'm glad to see Dakota happy and healthy....I was afraid something really bad happened when you said she got hurt and then you kind of disappeared. It is wonderful to see you and Dakota back! Thank you for sharing your journey, both your trucking journey as well as your mental and spiritual health journey, with us. Your openness, candor, and honesty are deeply appreciated. Thank you for just being you and not just striving for viewership. Truckers and Mariners are people we don't know, all doing jobs we don't ever think about, but without them civilized life for the rest of us would not be possible. I wish you well on your journey of recovery and discovery. You have been missed by many people around the world, including me.

Hey Shelby, those air tanks are under pressure. If it corroded through it's at risk for rapid decompression. That thing could go off like a bomb. You definitely don't want to be laying under it, and you surely don't want to be putting pressure on it. It'd be popping a tire bubble, but the tire is metal.

Dear Shelby Welcome back. Noone is more happy to see you & Dakoda again. Much thanks to your camera help as well. I hope others back me up on my assessment that the work you are doing is the biggest factor of your stress level. My wife and i traveled all 48 with our GSD's Monk & Dayzee for 6 years. Please let me share career notes with you and your team via email or chat or whatever works best for you. Your content brightens my day and certainly many others as well. We care about you very much. Just give us a listen. Yours truly, Bill & Lisa, GSD Logistic SW MS

I’m glad you’re back. I struggle with a lot of the things you do. I drove as a bus operator for 3 years and I recently started a new career that I’m passionate about as a railroader but I’m also prone to mental health issues and burn out. I loved driving and still do and I miss it every day and many days are rough with this new career I took on. It’s hard to have a work life balance driving/ railroading for 200hrs plus a month. So I’m glad you’re figuring it out

I’m a future truck driver, changing careers after catching my burnout in education recently. Something about the scenery of the road just makes me feel so much better when I’m on it. I’m hoping for the best experience when I get out there. I appreciate you sharing your story. It makes me feel better about making the move soon and about seeking help when I need it. I felt helpless at first speaking to someone but better now.

I'm glad that you are putting time and attention into your personal wellbeing and mental health, especially with the challenges you have mentioned you have been facing the last few years. Loved the Southwest scenery, drone, and gopro shots, as usual with your videos - they're awesome! - and seeing Dakota again too. She's a wonderful companion. Take care and stay safe and well. ❤🛣❤

Your getting help for mental health is good to be honest , I was a team driver with my late wife. I left OTR in 2016 when she got sick and passed away. I haven't been over the road since ( only local) I left my company I was wirh when they hired me baxk in 2016 after being OTR / Regional 6 month before she passed .... I'm sure I have a new job next week 18sp peter. Walking floor. But first time in a sleeper since the wife ... she was my rock .. my helper my co driver. But yeah. The first year in a truxk after ahe passed was really hard. I still struggle. But tour story touched me. Don't be ashamed of your feelings. The road can get lonely alot if times. A pet is good but a pet really don't talk baxk. All your people are here for you. I'm 60. Been doing it a long time. The road will tear you up and some it's even killed. Just be careful out there blondie. And until you said your age. I tiliok you for mid 20s. Reach out you ever need to talk from a fellow truckers point of view ❤🎉

I love your spirit! Keep fighting life's fights. The sun will rise again tomorrow. I was wondering why I haven't seen any of your recent videos, then today, just as I got home from graduating from my CDL school and passing DMV, with my interim CDL in hand, I got a Shelby and Dakota notification. 😂😁 Life works in mysterious ways. My current struggle is how to get a local job as a beginner because I have 3 dogs and nobody to help watch them. I live in Redding, Ca. so my options are very limited, but I'll keep trying until I succeed. Keep smiling, young lady, you're an inspiration to a lot of us. God bless you both! ❤ 🙏

Dear Shelby, You have no idea how many young women you have inspired by your channel. I have been watching you since you first started and I remember watching you in those first videos and thinking: “This determined woman will go far! She is fearless, loves a challenge and is fiercely independent!” I write this as your final video has not even released itself to watch yet. As an older woman of 63 years old all I can say is DO what moves your spirit, brings you peace and makes you smile! You never know how many days you have left on this Earth. So make them all count. I personally believe you have the adventures of trucking in your blood and a normal job would bore the snot out of you like a caged bird. If you need a break, go an RV for a bit. Just remember, there are a lot of people who care about you and thought of you and were even worried about you when you didn’t post videos for a while. Please be safe and enjoy what life has to offer you. It will all unfold as you need it too. ☮️❤️😊🙏

"It's been awhile.." Yeah,,,it's casual...nice to see you're still drivin' the truck and to see your happiness😁. Thanks for advocating on mental health; vlogging is like journaling, and journaling is beneficial to ones mental health. I was diagnosed manic-depressive way before the label was bipolar. A few y'tubers I follow have had to take breaks because their mental health was suffering, or they need to 'frontload', and talk and share their fears, and such. You're looking out for your own peace of mind, outstanding. We're not machines, we're human beings. Outstanding videography too, on the vlog. The high desert is my fav environment. All the best! Keep rollin' and have a great 2024🤘🏼
