As a boy in Siberia, he was always drawn to the larger-than-life heroes of Russian folklore. Now, as he approaches his 40th birthday, Mikhail Shivlyakov’s own life looks a bit like the stuff of legend: from his decorated service in Russian special forces to a current training program that finds him pushing sleds in a snow-covered forest with a group of Cossack warriors. In the gym, Mikhail’s happily given up some of his own valuable time to serve as a coach and mentor to other local strength athletes. But with Top 5 finishes at the past three Arnolds, he is far from ready to pass the torch. In fact, the “Siberian Force” is as much of a podium threat right now as he’s ever been. “If the training is hard,” he says, “the competition will be easy.”
Rogue’s complete live stream of the 2020 Arnold Strongman Classic begins here on Friday, March 6, at 1 PM EST. 10 strongmen will compete in 6 events over 2 days for the title of Arnold Strongman Classic Champion. Rogue’s coverage of the Arnold Classic weekend will include daily episodes of the Rogue Iron Game show featuring guests from the worlds of Strongman, Olympic Lifting, Powerlifting, and CrossFit. We will also be streaming the full 2020 Rogue Record Breakers competition and the IWF Rogue World Challenge.

I always love Shivlyakov: his attitude, his optimism, his heart... and not to mention a sense of humor! I actually have him as my 3rd favorite Strongman, and would love to see him go head to head against my other two favs: Martins Licis and Mateusz! I do hope Mikhail works on his joint stability though: I always see him shaky on the stages of lifting, even though he often gets the lifts, but at his age, I just want him to be safe so that he avoids injury! This guy is the Siberian Express: I hope to see him compete well into his 40s or 50s! Love ya Shivlyakov!~
