This was an absolute treat. Of course it was super fun to hear my music in the video, and of course I am incredibly nostalgic for this game, but bias aside, this video was really well put together! The writing was fantastic, concise, and expressive. The commercial interludes were hilarious, and all in all, it's very clear that you put a lot of heart into this video. Much like the game itself! Absolutely fantastic work, and I'm really happy I was able to be a part of it in some way! Keep it up! The stuff you do is lovely and sure to find its audience eventually.

Hello! I'm very glad that you enjoyed it! Thank you so much for the kind words, and I honestly can't stress enough how big of an impact your music made. It really helped me frame the tone and pacing of a number of the different sections and the video would have been so much lesser without it. Road Trip Adventure is a game that's very near and dear to my heart and it's an absolute sin that it's not better known, so I'm doing my best to change that! Thank you again and likewise, hopefully showcasing your music here will send some folks in your direction too :).

I absolutely loved this game as a kid, and Penny Racers as well. I also loved Gadget racers, which seemed like a bit of a mix between Penny Racers and Road Trip, where its open world wasn't "fully open world" as Road Trips and you definitely did more racing, but still had a similar charm. It's also like it was mixed with ideas from games like Crash Bandicoot and Jak and Daxter in the sense of new areas were locked off by big doors until you got enough of the item that was pictured on the door, along with it showing you how many you needed.
@TheUtterChrisp
@TheUtterChrisp 2 ай бұрын
You're spot on about Gadget Racers, the world design definitely feels reminiscent of Crash Team Racing and that's the exact point I'm going to make when I get around to making the video! To borrow a comparison from another series, it sort of feels like how Dragon Quest 8 had that wide open world and then 11 went for the more enclosed zones. Differing design philosophies but they both work.

I love this game to death and have thought many times about making a video like this, glad to see some people already have and share my love for this game. This is one of the few games where I don't think I've ever met someone in real life who has also played it. I also couldn't agree more with the end, I miss the time when I could spend hours in some of these games even with no objective, just exploring and messing around in the world.

We're a small but very dedicated community! The game, and series, deserves so much better but I don't think it'll be forgotten any time soon at any rate. I'm glad the final portion of the video resonated with you, it was a feeling that struck me whilst I was powering through it and I'm glad that I decided to share it! Sometimes it's fun to just hang out in a game, and to play Road Trip Adventure reminds me of a time when I could afford to do just that!

There's actually two sequels but they were only released in Japan and Europe. "Choro Q HG 3" and "Choro Q HG 4", known as "Gadget Racers" and "ChoroQ" respectively. Note: For some reason they released two different games from the Choro Q series as "Gadget Racers", the one you'll want is the one released in 2003.

I have had this game for 18 years… EIGHTEEN YEARS… and I am STILL on my first playthrough. I’m not playing it every day, but I have consistently played it quite regularly for that entire time span. It was probably the second-most played game of my childhood, behind only Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy, and it’s still probably my second most often-played PS2 game (still, behind Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy) and yet I still have plenty of stuff to do every time I go back to it, and I’ve still never actually finished the Grand Prix and become president lol

When my brother and I got our PS2 on Christmas, it also came with like... A HUNDRED GAMES. (They were all burnt discs... but my brother and I weren't old enough to understand that at the time. As we got older, a lot of the games would start to just crash lol.) It was like the best Christmas ever, and this game was one of the games we got. Just a translucent case and a blank disc with "Road Trip" written on it with a marker. We booted it up with our uncle (who bought us an ACTUAL copy of DBZ: Budokai because he was such a fan of the show) and we were trying to do that first race over and over with the shitty starting equipment and our uncle even struggled and was like "Is this a shitty racing game or something? We can't turn or break or do anything!" But then we finally drive around town and start getting gear, and racing over and over, and then we went to save and... We were never bought a memory card! That PS2 must have been on for like a week straight because we kept it on until we had a memory card, which meant that we couldn't even change games during that time (which doubly sucked because that meant my brother and I were forced to taking turns in a single-player game with our brand new PS2 lol) But I get what you mean when you say that it didn't take long to beat, and that things are easily skippable as an adult. It took us FOREVER to fully 100% the game, even just the races. We explored. I installed an emulator the other day just to get this game (and Budokai too, coincidentally,) and it only took me like 3 days to become President. I haven't done all the side stuff yet but I did a good chunk as I explored. I just remember asking myself "Weren't there big wheels in this game? I remember having big wheels but no shop has them!" Now I know to go talk to the coin guy lol. But yeah. I like your flowery language. This game meant a lot, and it's okay to speak of video games like that, at least, this one. The idea that maybe like 200 guys in a studio somewhere in Japan made a game that was successful enough to be converted to english speaking American audiences, and was just the right amount of challenge and love for the target audience of a child like me at the time. So never be ashamed to describe your love for something! Also, HUGE NOTE: Apparently the American version of the game doesn't have the same soundtrack as the Japanese version, and it stole music from some guy called 'Walthius.' KZfaq doesn't let me link anything but there are threads on the Road Trip subreddit that have links to this.

Youre review of it is amazing and spot on encapsulates how it feels to play through as an adult and complete it so quick, where as a kid i never finished any of the Choro Q games. Still always keep my eye out for something more modern to scratch the itch of a CaRPG like this one. I like it how you didn't spoil what happens if you 100% this game like someone nowdays would have the chance to pick up this game and play. Jokes aside, I think this is the game of all games that deserves a remaster or better even a remake or a sequel. I never liked open world Need For Speed or Burnout games for trying to be a realistic world but only cars driving around. I have really fond memories of completing this game on numerous times. Me and my cousin also developed a duplication glitch of a rare item, using two memory cards with different player profiles on both of them. Alhough the empty roads between cities was a little sad indeed. Wish there were some cars laping around the map to meet and greet on the way.

@@TheUtterChrisp that trick might spoil the 100% surprise but my cousin would purchase that last item that isn't for sale anywhere else and you only get one. Then we'd restart the game with him saving his progress but I didn't so now we both had one. We were grinding "the endurance run" in My City for it's highest money reward in game many times and bought complete set for our whole team like this. And then, with two players, both with their personal teams geared up like this, the football match was something so wild we woke up the whole house laughing.

This might be the game that started my love of open worlds now that I think on it. The stolen music sours the game for me a little tho.
@TheUtterChrisp
@TheUtterChrisp 6 ай бұрын
It was a very unfortunate situation for sure. Thankfully from my understanding it's been resolved rather amicably now. If you search up MOVGAMES video on the stolen tracks there was an update on the whole situation in the video description. The open world rules though! You can speed across the whole thing in like 5 minutes but it still feels like this grand journey for sure :).

I don't really understand this title tbh. I thought this was going to be some git driving around for 20 min, I reluctanly clicked on it, but I do appreciate the video. As a word of "advice" I would not use the term "Having a Mosey" for a review video/series, it gives off a more exploratory vibe of someone who is just testing something out. Other than that, I like your video, it's better than anything I could make.

Hello there, thank you very much for watching and I'm very happy that part resonated with you! It occurred to me when I was like a good 75% of the way through recording footage that I was focusing more on just checking imaginary boxes than I was actually just living in the moment with the game and experiencing it properly. Like, I'm definitely better at video games than I used to be, but I think it's more a question of attitude over skill, really. Thanks again for the sub, welcome aboard! I absolutely intend to cover Gadget Racers (ChoroQ HG3) before too long, as well as pretty much any other game in the series that I can get my hands on. In the meantime, I also just released a video on Penny Racers (ChoroQ HG1) that you're more than welcome to check out! :)
