Greetings from Falkensee, which is quite close to Potsdam :). Since Potsdam used to be the summer residence of the Prussian kings, there are a lot of palaces there, most notably the Sanssouci palace. Definitely worth a visit. On your way south on A9, you passed ‚Gartenreich Dessau-Wörlitz‘ where the lords of the principality of Anhalt-Dessau built a very nice ensemble of palace and garden as well.

Deutschland feels like living still in the 1990s: cash required everywhere, using even 1 and 2 eurocent coins, terrible mobile reception and internet connections... Sometimes feels incredible that small countries like Netherlands and Denmark are so much future oriented and modern.

Re: Sights in Potsdam: Some six years ago we happened to find a little gem hidden in the beechwoods nearby, the small island Pfaueninsel (Peacock Island) where peacocks still roam about, there is a mock rococo castle, old oaks and wild onions in springtime. Very nice. A 2-car ferry takes you there on foot across maybe 40 metres of lake, and the first thing to see upon landing is a sign: Toilets 0,02 km :-D No traffic, walking restricted to paths, in principle no food service, no camping. Bring a blanket and thermos!

The "pit stop problem" you mention around 14:50 actually has to do with legal regulations regarding who can operate what at highway rest areas or road houses. These "Autohöfe" are operated completely independent from the autobahn itself, therefore, it might be easier for Tesla to build a supercharger there.

Common disadvantage in Germany for Tesla, that the Superchargers are almost always in locations that you have to exit the motorway for. Ionity is generally placed more conveniently, but they only have 4-6 stalls in most German locations. EnBW's alpitronic Hyperchargers are also quite reliable and fast, and they are in pit stop locations, but again, they only have 2 or 4 HPC outlets except for some places like e.g. Ulm. They're worth a try, though, if you want to have more flexibility in choosing your stops...

Hi Bjørn, nice to see you driving in Germany on the Autobahn. You passed "Hermsdorfer Kreuz", which I also do two til three times a week. I work in Jena and live in Gera. Anyway, I remember some years ago my girlfriend, our kids and me hired a Renault Zoë. We wanted the car only for a test drive on a friday. But the salesman was not that much convinced when it came to electromobility. He said that nobody wanted to buy that car. (One or two years later it became the most selling car in Germany). So he had nothing against our wish to test the car the whole weekend. For free. It was so amazing! And the first charging stop was at...guess what... Münchberg 😉 Have a nice trip to Slovenia! Love your vids, bye and see you soon.

0:32 stunning you guys get 3 phase AC for charging in Europe. Only 16 amps for 10 kW. It's such a shame that 3 phase is not part of J1772 standard in North America. 3 phase is available in every industrial and commercial building here.
@adrianguggisberg3656
@adrianguggisberg3656 2 жыл бұрын
That's because almost all households in Europe have 3-Phase 230/400V power, Split-Phase wiring doesn't exist. Therefore almost all home chargers are 3-Phase and almost all current EV's are equipped for 11kW or 22kW 3-Phase charging. There are 3-Phase chargers available in the US, but they only make sense for commercial vehicles, because regular EVs are equipped for Split-Phase rather than 3-Phase power. The obvious reason being that all US homes are only Split-Phase wired.

Indeed, I recently discovered that V3 SC give me 150kw max while V2 will cap me at about 135kw max! I guess this is due to V2 goes up to 150kw theory while V3 goes up to 250kw…so the car gets to get the most it can with the V3… Since, I picked V3 over V2 whenever I can…

In the last 2 months I had 3 times when I stopped to refuel at the Autobahn, when the pump didn't work. All 3 occasions it was due to the EC payment system not working, and there was a sign put up telling you had to go inside first to get the pump "unlocked" (if you happened to carry enough cash). On the last occasion the warning sticker was already faded so I must be quite some time the EC payment system wasn't working.... Being dutch I find that truly incredible. Seriously, in Germany you have to carry cash as you will counter situations where cards are not accepted, or the EC system isn't working.

@@starvictory7079 I guess in practice you won't have issues when you are actually charging, but legally speaking, when you have the "car with cable" sign, you can only use the spot with a specific number plate, or, if you don't have one, a blue "E" sticker on the back. There is unfortunately no requirement to charge though if not specified on the sign...

They always put corn in ramen in germany or at least in the Berlin area, I hate it. On an other note, is it not normal to have so many Staus in other countries???

Best example is on Sunday evening when most trucks are not allowed to drive: Some cars doing 90 to 100 in the 2nd lane, but the right lane is complete unused.... I see it every Sunday on the A3.

I was at the IAA but quickly walked by the BMW stand. Somewhere outside an iX was parked... this is so typical, finally they bring a purpose-built EV again and then it has to be as big as a whale, even just the stupidly named "Intelligenzfläche" has a bigger frontal area than my whole car. How is this going to do the environment any good? I always feel relieved when I exit Germany... the land of countless Baustellen (where nobody seems ever to be working), Staus and Lichthuper. Where a national speed limit is one of the biggest tabus, yet the average travel speed is in fact lower than some countries where mostly 100 is allowed.... Why doesn't anybody in Germany seem to understand that speed differences (and aggressive driving) create Staus? Seriously, it is the most tiring country to drive in I know.

We more or less have herd immunity in Europe now, thanks to all the vaccinations. A few countries are a bit behind on them + there is the usual trouble with the usual troublesome immigrant communities who don’t want to get vaccinated, who don’t want to wear face masks, and who don’t care about restrictions on gatherings. Most of the flare ups in Europe for the last year have been due to those wonderful people.
