Italy has the Stelvio Pass. America has Route 66. And for Australians who live along the Eastern Seaboard, there's the amazing Oxley Highway.
This episode features on local rider Alex, who has lived and breathed the Oxley Highway for most of his riding life, often with his wife Ann on the back.
Produced in partnership with www.pipeburn.com for Transport for NSW.

I have only just discovered this series of videos and I just love them! At 62 years of age, I'm often confused by all these high performance race bikes ridden so irresponsibly by young males (mostly). They haven't yet experienced the sheer joy of riding, which these videos depict so beautifully. It's just not cool to be dead before you're 30 folks, or seriously disabled from an avoidable motorcycle accident. Take time to smell the roses my young friends and ride safe. Mitch

As usual for vids from Stories of Bike this immediately calms me down and resets my mood to longing for taking a ride. The people are always real special. I am from far away, Switzerland but once not long ago I was taking my first steps on Australia and really enjoyed the country and the people. To me it occured pretty laid back and the wildlife and landscapes were amazing. And this vid makes me thinking about coming back this year...and this time adventuring by bike. We'll see... Anyway thanks a lot again for this ! Ride well and enjoy life, Cheers

Thanks heaps Hendo. I would love to do more of these too, but there's a lot that goes into making a vid like this and I'm a big believer in quality over quantity, which kind of goes against what KZfaq is about these days. Regardless, you'll be hopefully seeing more videos here really soon.

I rode the Oxley back in 1986 on a BMW K100 to the Long Flat Rally! Yes it has to be the best section of corners in Australia. Great video, brought back memories rides of old, thanks.

Yep on the list for the Guzzi! Drove it late one night a couple of months back in fog and a little rain in an old Landrover. I don't recommend doing that but for my wife and I it was a FANTASTIC drive and we loved every second. Be safe though it could bite hard.

I love the footage, I love the production, I love the roads.... But please can we chill out a bit on the "Go Slow" message. We are riders: all good riders know when to roll off the throttle, but one of the reasons to ride is the exhilaration of speed, of the physics of the bike and feeling of flying that only a bike can bring. Australia has some of the most draconian speed laws applied with possibly the least understanding or acceptance of what actually causes accidents... Riders, being by nature a rebellious mob, are among the group of road users best aware of where real danger is, and it's not speed. If I could offer one advice, please get back to telling people whats good about these roads: the beauty, the freedom, the places they take us and why these great people ride and how they came to be in this place and time. Let us decide how fast or slow we wish to go, and let us accept our own risks in enjoying this beautiful place.

not everyone who watches these videos have your experience or skill set. Rider safety is never an unwelcome thing in my book. I was also unaware that a video could control YOUR speed while riding. Might want to get that checked out!

I can see you standing, screaming and shouting at a speedsign "dont tell me what to do! I am a motorcyclist! I don't need you"
@rickee2652
@rickee2652 6 жыл бұрын
I'm not opposed to rider safety at all! I just wish that we could forget the fallacy that speed is the major factor in safety and concentrate on actually useful tips for newer riders. Things like: Adjust your speed so that you can always stop in the available space (rather than just "go slow") or, here is a good place with clear sight lines that on a fine day you can practise braking mid corner, or changing line, so that you know how to do it when a bend tightens, or there is an obstruction to avoid. Reducing your speed may give you more time to react to the unexpected, but if you don't teach yourself and train your reactions to be appropriate then you will still have an accident. That is the message which is muddied and buried by the governments simplistic "speed kills" campaign. And no, the only you tube clip that has ever changed my riding was when I had been on my L's for a few months (I learned in England when you could ride for two years on L's after a one day training course before getting your full license) and I saw a video on active countersteering. After trying it out I found I could put the bike exactly where I needed it to be and could gain confidence in managing mid corner alterations in speed and direction. However, I do question EVERYTHING I'm ever told, a trait most find annoying so I can conclude that many do not, which is why the "speed kills" myth continues to enthral the majority of road users. Rant over, buying a ticket over east because I do want to ride some decent twisties again, which are SO hard to find in Perth.
